Meditation alone will not aid true spiritual development. by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, William Q. Judge, Damodar K. Mavalankar, Godolphin Mitford, Clara M. Codd, Proclus Lycaeus Pdf

Nature strives to contain Spirit and detain it here on earth, but Spirit ever strives to be freed from its earthly prison and return to its divine abode. The correct apprehension of Philosophy can help devotees to Duty and Truth to distinguish between Spiritual and Psychic wisdom. Only True philosophy, i.e., the Wisdom of Love, can help remove the weeds of dogma and correct the errors of human fancy. She is Penelope-Sophia, the loyal wife waiting for Odysseus-Christos’ return. Meditation proper is Spiritual Seership. It leads to conscious realisation of the Truths that underpin and sustain Cosmos and Man, Ideas and Forms. It bridges “the known” or phenomenon, with “the unknown” or noumenon, and instructs inwardly focused minds to identify with All, work with Nature, and live for All. Meditation is silent and unuttered prayer, the ardent turning of the soul towards the divine. It uplifts lower minds to higher realms of pure consciousness by catalepsy of the physical body. Then, by suspending the brain’s mechanical action, the Adept can see as clearly as Truth Itself. Such a deliberate withdrawal of consciousness is a magical skill that leads to the contemplation of celestial powers. Meditation is Theurgy or White Magic, Iamblichus’ Manteia, Apollonius’ and Plotinus’ Union to the Deity, Theosophy’s Raja-Yoga, the Ishvara of the ancient Yogin, the Samadhi of the modern. Psychic powers are far more subtle intoxicants than the gross physical energies. Despite of the name, clairvoyant vision is nothing but clear. Inactivity of the physical body does not indicate a condition of inactivity. For the uninitiated, “sitting for yoga” is invariably fatal. It encourages mental passivity which, in turn, aids the development of mediumistic states where one can readily fall prey to the caprice and malice of mischievous embryos of human beings. All yoga practices have disastrous results unless guided by a competent teacher. A Master of Wisdom advises concentration upon the Higher Self within the Heart: Place your love, trust, and confidence in your heart, and retire there when the battle grows fierce. Practise the habit of careful and constant concentration of mind upon every duty and act in life, and one day you might be able to kindle the Sacred Fire. But unless you are capable of unremitting devotion to truth and virtue, and of guarding Self against self, you are more likely to lose your way in the shadows than to see any real light or gain insight. Those who wallow in the mire of exotericism know not what it is to live in the world and yet be not of the world. Beware, O Lanoo! Read Nature’s Finer Forces. There are no extant works on effective and safe practice and those purporting to be are full of blinds. Which of the Two Paths wilt thou choose, O Lanoo?

Presidential authoritarianism is an affront to Brotherhood by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky, Henry Steel Olcott Pdf

Inflamed by the abnormal fancies and uncanny dreams of an acting Editor of “The Theosophist.” The Esoteric Section of The Theosophical Society is wholly apart from the latter, and owes no allegiance to it. Madame Blavatsky alone is responsible for its members. Let the Theosophical Society break away from the original lines, and show disloyalty in its policy to the Cause and the Original Programme, and Madame Blavatsky will shake it off like dust from her feet. There is no such a thing as “Parent Society”; it has been abolished and replaced by an aggregate body of Theosophical Societies, all autonomous as the States of America are, and all under one Head-President who, together with Madame Blavatsky, champions the Cause against the whole world. Madame Blavatsky does not owe the slightest allegiance to a Council which is liable at any moment to issue silly and untheosophical commands. No more than Madame Blavatsky has Col. Olcott the right of exercising autocracy or papal powers, for both Founders of the Theosophical Society have sworn allegiance to the Fellows, whom they vowed to protect, and teach those who want to be taught; they are not to tyrannize and rule over them. “The sun of truth fears no light and needs no lies.” In his zeal hunting the mare’s nest, the esteemed acting Editor of “The Theosophist” has become more Catholic than the Pope himself. Let the General Council expel Madame Blavatsky for “disloyalty,” if Col. Olcott should be so blind as to fail to see where the loyal friend and his duty lie. Enough of theosophical dogmatism and intolerance! If you want to know yourself ask your enemies, not your friends, and you will find more truth, and profit more by their opinion than by that of those who love you. Plus, an explanation important to all Theosophists introduced by Boris de Zirkoff, a Statement by Madame Blavatsky, and a Joint Note by Col. Olcott and Madame Blavatsky.

Theological anthropomorphism is the parent of materialism by Helena Petrovna Blavatsky Pdf

Materialism is the offspring of theological and dogmatic anthropomorphism. Every nation made a god of its own and, in its great ignorance and superstition, served, and flattered, and tried to propitiate that god. There can be no conscious meeting in Kama-loka, hence no grief. We meet those we loved only in Devachan, that subjective world of perfect bliss, which succeeds the Kama-loka. Kama-loka may be compared to the dressing-room of an actor, in which he divests himself of the costume of the last part he played before rebecoming himself properly. Once we realize that form is merely a temporary perception dependent on our physical senses and the idiosyncrasies of our physical brain, and has no existence on its own, then this illusion that formless cause cannot be causative of forms will soon vanish. Virtuous living alone, if uninformed by esoteric philosophy and unillumined by divine wisdom, cannot lead to friendship and interior communion with God. John Stuart Mill was a case of a wonderful development of the intellectual and terrestrial side of psyche or soul, but Spirit he rejected as all Agnostics do.

AT THE FEET OF THE MASTER by Jiddu Krishnamurti,Charles Leadbeater,Annie Besant Pdf

This book is merely a record of talks by Mr. Charles W. Leadbeater and myself on three famous books – books small in size but great in contents. We both hope that they will prove useful to aspirants, and even to those above that stage, since the talkers were older than the listeners, and had more experience in the life of discipleship. The talks were not given at one place only; we chatted to our friends at different times and places, chiefly at Adyar, London and Sydney. A vast quantity of notes were taken by the listeners. All that were available of these were collected and arranged. They were then condensed, and repetitions were eliminated. Unhappily there were found to be very few notes on The Voice of the Silence, Fragment I, so we have utilized notes made at a class held by our good colleague, Mr. Ernest Wood, in Sydney, and incorporated these into Bishop Leadbeater’s talks in that section. No notes of my own talks on this book were available; though I have spoken much upon it, those talks are not recoverable. None of these talks have been published before, except some of Bishop Leadbeater’s addresses to selected students on At the Feet of the Master. A book entitled Talks on At the Feet of the Master was published a few years ago, containing imperfect reports of some of these talks of his. That book will not be reprinted; the essential material in it finds its place here, carefully condensed and edited. May this book help some of our younger brothers to understand more of these priceless teachings. The more they are studied and lived, the more will be found in them. — Annie Besant

Inner Development by Valentin Tomberg Pdf

The focus of this book is the spiritual work in the "school"--the community--of Michael. What does this mean? At the end of the eighteenth century, the Archangel Michael revealed the new mystery that has manifested on Earth as spiritual science, or anthroposophy. Its essence involves the renewal of our knowledge of the mysteries of karma and human destiny. Those who are drawn to this school have a special relationship to the human faculty of thinking--their inner feeling for truth has the strength of iron. This feeling for truth helps them to become companions of Michael at the threshold of the spiritual world. These talks deal with the spiritual path of anthroposophy in its Christian Rosicrudian aspect. Tomberg speaks openly and honestly about meditation, the various stages of consciousness (imagination, inspiration, and intuition), the "guardian of the threshold," and the esoteric trials one encounters along the way. He concludes by describing the life of Rudolf Steiner as the life of a Christian initiate.
