What are They Saying about the Letter to the Hebrews? by Daniel J. Harrington Pdf

"Arguably the greatest Christian sermon ever written, yet one of the more neglected and difficult writings in the New Testament, the Letter to the Hebrews is, says the author,"a long reflection on Jesus as the definitive means of access to God."" "This book surveys recent scholarship about Hebrews and the progress made in that scholarship, and informs prospective students and theologians of resources available to them." "Biblical scholars, theologians, students, and pastors will find this work to be stimulating and enriching on the biblical, theological, and pastoral levels."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. The Oxford Handbook of Sacramental Theology by Hans Boersma,Matthew Levering Pdf

As a multi-faceted introduction to sacramental theology, the purposes of this Handbook are threefold: historical, ecumenical, and missional. The forty-four chapters are organized into the following parts five parts: Sacramental Roots in Scripture, Patristic Sacramental Theology, Medieval Sacramental Theology, From the Reformation through Today, and Philosophical and Theological Issues in Sacramental Doctrine. Contributors to this Handbook explain the diverse ways that believers have construed the sacraments, both in inspired Scripture and in the history of the Church's practice. In Scripture and the early Church, Orthodox, Protestants, and Catholics all find evidence that the first Christian communities celebrated and taught about the sacraments in a manner that Orthodox, Protestants, and Catholics today affirm as the foundation of their own faith and practice. Thus, for those who want to understand what has been taught about the sacraments in Scripture and across the generations by the major thinkers of the various Christian traditions, this Handbook provides an introduction. As the divisions in Christian sacramental understanding and practice are certainly evident in this Handbook, it is not thereby without ecumenical and missional value. This book evidences that the story of the Christian sacraments is, despite divisions in interpretation and practice, one of tremendous hope.

Never Give Up! by Philip Church Pdf

The book is a commentary on Hebrews designed for use as textbook for undergraduate and graduate level studies. It works through the text of Hebrews paragraph by paragraph, with additional notes on a variety of theological topics along the way. In Hebrews and the Temple Church argued for an eschatological reading of Hebrews, and this book applies that reading to the discipline of a commentary. It grows out of postgraduate level lectures on Hebrews delivered at Laidlaw College in Auckland, New Zealand, Myanmar Evangelical Graduate School of Theology in Yangon, Myanmar; Asia Graduate School of Theology in Kathmandu, Nepal; and Christian Leaders’ Training College at Banz, Papua New Guinea.

A Bibliography of the Finds in the Desert of Judah, 1970-95 by Donald Parry,Florentino García Martínez Pdf

This volume contains a bibliography of the research on the Dead Sea Scrolls published during the last 25 years, and as such it provides scholars with an indispensable tool for further research. Although originally planned as a continuation of B. Jongeling's A Classified Bibliography of the Finds of the Desert of Judah 1958-1969, the materials are presented in a different way in order to avoid unnecessary duplications of entries. Each bibliographical entry is alphabetically listed in the first part of the book and is provided with an identification number which allows for multiple classifications. The second part offers a sophisticated classification of the materials by themes, topics and key words, but also by manuscript numbers and titles of the compositions as well as by authors.

The Melchizedek Tradition by Fred L. Horton Jr. Pdf

This monograph seeks to answer the question why Melchizedek, who is a minor figure in the Old Testament, is selected by the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews to represent the priesthood of Christ. In the course of his study, Professor Horton surveys the traditions about Melchizedek from the Old Testment period, in Philo, Josephus and Qumran, to the later sources in Rabbinical and patristic writings and the Gnosticism. The book concludes with a critical examination of the claims made for the dependence of Hebrews on the Qumran figure and tradition. The author finally rejects this interpretation in favour of a source and background for Hebrews in an independent and largely original interpretation of the Old Testament passages.
