Hybrid Metaheuristics in Structural Engineering by Gebrail Bekdaş,Sinan Melih Nigdeli Pdf

From the start of life, people used their brains to make something better in design in ordinary works. Due to that, metaheuristics are essential to living things, and several inspirations from life have been used in the generation of new algorithms. These algorithms have unique features, but the usage of different features of different algorithms may give more effective optimum results in means of precision in optimum results, computational effort, and convergence. This book is a timely book to summarize the latest developments in the optimization of structural engineering systems covering all classical approaches and new trends including hybrids metaheuristic algorithms. Also, artificial intelligence and machine learning methods are included to predict optimum results by skipping long optimization processes. The main objective of this book is to introduce the fundamentals and current development of methods and their applications in structural engineering.

Optimization Using Evolutionary Algorithms and Metaheuristics by Kaushik Kumar,J. Paulo Davim Pdf

Metaheuristic optimization is a higher-level procedure or heuristic designed to find, generate, or select a heuristic (partial search algorithm) that may provide a sufficiently good solution to an optimization problem, especially with incomplete or imperfect information or limited computation capacity. This is usually applied when two or more objectives are to be optimized simultaneously. This book is presented with two major objectives. Firstly, it features chapters by eminent researchers in the field providing the readers about the current status of the subject. Secondly, algorithm-based optimization or advanced optimization techniques, which are applied to mostly non-engineering problems, are applied to engineering problems. This book will also serve as an aid to both research and industry. Usage of these methodologies would enable the improvement in engineering and manufacturing technology and support an organization in this era of low product life cycle. Features: Covers the application of recent and new algorithms Focuses on the development aspects such as including surrogate modeling, parallelization, game theory, and hybridization Presents the advances of engineering applications for both single-objective and multi-objective optimization problems Offers recent developments from a variety of engineering fields Discusses Optimization using Evolutionary Algorithms and Metaheuristics applications in engineering

Advances in Structural Engineering—Optimization by Sinan Melih Nigdeli,Gebrail Bekdaş,Aylin Ece Kayabekir,Melda Yucel Pdf

This book is an up-to-date source for computation applications of optimization, prediction via artificial intelligence methods, and evaluation of metaheuristic algorithm with different structural applications. As the current interest of researcher, metaheuristic algorithms are a high interest topic area since advance and non-optimized problems via mathematical methods are challenged by the development of advance and modified algorithms. The artificial intelligence (AI) area is also important in predicting optimum results by skipping long iterative optimization processes. The machine learning used in generation of AI models also needs optimum results of metaheuristic-based approaches. This book is a great source to researcher, graduate students, and bachelor students who gain project about structural optimization. Differently from the academic use, the chapter that emphasizes different scopes and methods can take the interest and help engineer working in design and production of structural engineering projects.

Structural Optimization Using Shuffled Shepherd Meta-Heuristic Algorithm by Ali Kaveh,Ataollah Zaerreza Pdf

This book presents the so-called Shuffled Shepherd Optimization Algorithm (SSOA), a recently developed meta-heuristic algorithm by authors. There is always limitations on the resources to be used in the construction. Some of the resources used in the buildings are also detrimental to the environment. For example, the cement utilized in making concrete emits carbon dioxide, which contributes to the global warming. Hence, the engineers should employ resources efficiently and avoid the waste. In the traditional optimal design methods, the number of trials and errors used by the designer is limited, so there is no guarantee that the optimal design can be found for structures. Hence, the deigning method should be changed, and the computational algorithms should be employed in the optimum design problems. The gradient-based method and meta-heuristic algorithms are the two different types of methods used to find the optimal solution. The gradient-based methods require gradient information. Also, these can easily be trapped in the local optima in the nonlinear and complex problems. Therefore, to overcome these issues, meta-heuristic algorithms are developed. These algorithms are simple and can get out of the local optimum by easy means. However, a single meta-heuristic algorithm cannot find the optimum results in all types of optimization problems. Thus, civil engineers develop different meta-heuristic algorithms for their optimization problems. Different applications of the SSOA are provided. The simplified and enhanced versions of the SSOA are also developed and efficiently applied to various optimization problems in structures. Another special feature of this book consists of the use of graph theoretical force method as analysis tool, in place of traditional displacement approach. This has reduced the computational time to a great extent, especially for those structures having smaller DSI compared to the DKI. New framework is also developed for reliability-based design of frame structures. The algorithms are clearly stated such that they can simply be implemented and utilized in practice and research.
