An Insight Into Metal Based Foams by Dipen Kumar Rajak,Manoj Gupta Pdf

The primary focus of this book, accordingly, is to provide insight into the fundamentals, applications, manufacturing aspects and properties (mechanical, thermal, electrical etc.) of metal foams. Their potential applications in various small- as well as large-scale industries are highlighted. The present book also focuses on aspects of designing simple structures by taking into account loading conditions under tensile, compressive or torsional stress for metals and their foams. In view of theoretical analysis, clear explanation is provided as how metal foams can exhibit better structural properties when compared to their parent metal. It is hoped that the present book, in view of significant application potential of metal foams in near future, will be extremely useful to students and academicians in tertiary institutes and researchers working in research labs who are attempting to find lightweight solutions.

Metal Foams: A Design Guide by Michael F. Ashby,Tony Evans,NA Fleck,J.W. Hutchinson,H.N.G. Wadley,L. J. Gibson Pdf

Metal foams are at the forefront of technological development for the automotive, aerospace, and other weight-dependent industries. They are formed by various methods, but the key facet of their manufacture is the inclusion of air or other gaseous pockets in the metal structure. The fact that gas pockets are present in their structure provides an obvious weight advantage over traditionally cast or machined solid metal components. The unique structure of metal foams also opens up more opportunities to improve on more complex methods of producing parts with space inclusions such as sand-casting. This guide provides information on the advantages metal foams possess, and the applications for which they may prove suitable. Offers a concise description of metal foams, their manufacture, and their advantages in industry Provides engineers with answers to pertinent questions surrounding metal foams Satisfies a major need in the market for information on the properties, performance, and applications of these materials

Metal Foams by Nihad Dukhan Pdf

This book offers the first full-scale technical treatment of an important class of engineered porous materials: metal foams. Written by a team of metal foam experts from around the world, the volume offers new, as well as fundamental, information on all aspects of metal foams, including their theory, manufacture, structure-property relationships and applications. The book explains microscopy and modeling tools that enhance the prediction and determination of metal foam properties related to fluid flow, heat transfer, sound absorption and failure analysis. Attention is given to the many techniques for manufacturing and testing metal foams and to how their microstructure can be controlled to create custom properties for applications in acoustics, bone implants, heat sinks, lightweighting and crash protection. The text is sufficiently detailed to offer guidance to design and development engineers, and yet is basic enough to be used as a textbook or reference by students of materials science, mechanical, structural or chemical engineering requiring an introduction to the subject.

Integral Foam Molding of Light Metals by Carolin Koerner Pdf

A person with a new idea is a crank until the idea succeeds. Mark Twain Metal foams show outstanding properties: Low weight, high rigidity, high energy absorption capacity, high damping capacity, etc. They have attracted strong - dustrial and scienti?c interest during the last decade. A variety of methods has been developed to produce foams and the development of new, more sophisticated methods is still going on. On the one hand, there are only very few applications where metal foams can be directly employed without further processing. On the other hand, established metal foam production methods have one feature in common, they produce foam and not metal parts containing metal foam. In the majority of cases additional shaping and joining steps are necessary to transform the metal foam into a working functional element. In addition, the cellular structure demands for appropriate joining technologies which are often not yet available or expensive. As a result, the whole processing sequence is in general long and expensive. The logical consequence of the requirement to develop cost-e?ective techniques to produce metal parts with integrated cellular structure is the newly developed process of integral foam molding. Integral foam consists of a solid skin and a c- lular core. This is the fundamental construction principle which is ubiquitous in biological systems, e. g. the human skull, as well as in technical solutions, e. g. sa- wich constructions. The concentration of the material within the skin optimizes the moment of inertia and thus sti?ness and strength.

Hydrogen-Based Energy Conversion by Jin-Soo Park Pdf

This book consists of the nine sections: i) the first three sections are related to polymeric electrolyte composites; ii) the next two sections relate to gas diffusion layers (GDLs); iii) the next two sections relate to membrane¬–electrode assembly (MEA); iv) and the final two sections deal with the numerical simulation of flow fields for polymer electrolyte fuel cells (PEFCs). All sections describe recent results of the study of the main components of PEFC stacks. The studies provide the underlying material, electrochemical, and/or mechanical aspects that enhance the mass transport of gas, ions (liquid), and electrons for a better performance of PEFCs and the electrochemical reactions at the triple-phase boundary in electrodes. Each study offers the fundamentals, a comprehensive background, and cutting-edge technology on the aforementioned materials and mass transport phenomena.
