Methodism and England by Maldwyn Edwards Pdf

"This book is the last of a trilogy of books dealing with the social and political aspects of Methodism. In John Wesley and the Eighteen Century the story was taken down to the death of John Wesley. In After Methodism I dealt with the middle period which ended with the Fly Sheet Agitation. And in this book I have completed the study by describing the place of Methodism in the life of England from the fall of Jabez Bunting to the union of the three great Methodist Churches in 1932. I began the work on this last period of Methodist history in 1935 and it has occupied much of my leisure time ever since. The three books are, I hope, of value not only to those who are Methodists, but also to those who are interested in the history of England during the last 200 years." -- From the Preface

The Practice of Mission in Global Methodism by David W. Scott,Darryl W. Stephens Pdf

This book brings together Methodist scholars and reflective practitioners from around the world to consider how emerging practices of mission and evangelism shape contemporary theologies of mission. Engaging contemporary issues including migration, nationalism, climate change, postcolonial contexts, and the growth of the Methodist church in the Global South, this book examines multiple forms of mission, including evangelism, education, health, and ministries of compassion. A global group of contributors discusses mission as no longer primarily a Western activity but an enterprise of the entire church throughout the world. This volume will be of interest to researchers studying missiology, evangelism, global Christianity, and Methodism and to students of Methodism and mission.

Pulpit, Press, and Politics by Scott McLaren Pdf

When American Methodist preachers first arrived in Upper Canada in the 1790s, they brought with them more than an alluring religious faith. They also brought saddlebags stuffed with books published by the New York Methodist Book Concern – North America’s first denominational publisher – to sell along their preaching circuits. Pulpit, Press, and Politics traces the expansion of this remarkable transnational market from its earliest days to the mid-nineteenth century, a period of intense religious struggle in Upper Canada marked by fiery revivals, political betrayals, and bitter church schisms. The Methodist Book Concern occupied a central place in all this conflict as it powerfully shaped and subverted the religious and political identities of Canadian Methodists, particularly in the wake of the American Revolution. The Concern bankrolled the bulk of Canadian Methodist preaching and missionary activities, enabled and constrained evangelistic efforts among the colony’s Native groups, and clouded Methodist dealings with the British Wesleyans and other religious competitors north of the border. Even more importantly, as Methodists went on to assume a preeminent place in Upper Canada’s religious, cultural, and educational life, their ongoing reliance on the Methodist Book Concern played a crucial role in opening the way for the lasting acceptance and widespread use of American books and periodicals across the region.
