Milking Our Memories by Pat Walsh Pdf

Milking Our Memories is a memoir of the tribulations and triumphs of two Irish teenagers and their Australian descendants. Set in the context of their times, it is both a window onto some of the great upheavals of the last 150 years and the day to day fortunes of one Australian family in country Victoria. Sometimes sad, often funny, it is a tribute to all the Walshs who have farmed, lived, and thrived on Walshs Road, South Purrumbete, and deserve to be remembered.

The Land of Milk and Uncle Honey by Alan Guebert,Mary Grace Foxwell Pdf

"The river was in God's hands, the cows in ours." So passed the days on Indian Farm, a dairy operation on 700 acres of rich Illinois bottomland. In this collection, Alan Guebert and his daughter-editor Mary Grace Foxwell recall Guebert's years on the land working as part of that all-consuming collaborative effort known as the family farm. Here are Guebert's tireless parents, measuring the year not in months but in seasons for sewing, haying, and doing the books; Jackie the farmhand, needing ninety minutes to do sixty minutes' work and cussing the entire time; Hoard the dairyman, sore fingers wrapped in electrician's tape, sharing wine and the prettiest Christmas tree ever; and the unflappable Uncle Honey, spreading mayhem via mistreated machinery, flipped wagons, and the careless union of diesel fuel and fire. Guebert's heartfelt and humorous reminiscences depict the hard labor and simple pleasures to be found in ennobling work, and show that in life, as in farming, Uncle Honey had it right with his succinct philosophy for overcoming adversity: "the secret's not to stop." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DooGQqUlXI4&index=1&list=FLPxtuez-lmHxi5zpooYEnBg

A Window on Our Street: Sondering through Covid-19 in Northcote by Pat Walsh Pdf

Thanks to the COVID-19 lockdown, Pat Walsh has re-discovered the street in Melbourne where heÕs lived for forty years. Sondering like a teddy bear, heÕs been treated to glimpses into lives, vivid and complex like his own, that have scrolled past on the screen of his front window. His appreciation is a mix of history, anecdote and whimsy, both serious and playful in tone and laced with humour. COVID-affected, he reveals that he innocently imported a Russian virus to Northcote. But then comforts readers by morphing into the sun that, Dylan Thomas style, sends a blessing to his street and its doomed but iconic gum trees.

Our Memories of Home by Phil McClure Pdf

The Myers cabin still sits on the original cornerstones where it has stood for over 130 years. The cabin’s logs were cut from red beech that were numerous then. It was built around 1870 by Louis Myers with the help of Alvis and Samuel Banks who hewed the logs. After Carl Myers parents died in the mid 1940’s the cabin was used for storage and also used to shed a school bus under the back porch roof. Later the front and back porches were removed and the protective weather boarding was removed leaving it to the mercy of the elements. In 1995 & 1996 the cabin underwent major restoration. Several logs had to be replaced as well as the chinking. The porches were put back on. Oak shingles were split too cover the roofs. The author and his two friends Mark Wolfal and Dick Sharke volunteered their time for this two year project. Also Norman Click helped when he could.

Wheat by Del Newkirk Pdf

WHEAT is a true story of the memories of a boy who grew up on a small Indiana farm just as World War II began. Dawn to dark labor year round instilled in him, the middle of three sons of a hard driving conservative Lutheran, a work ethic he applied the remainder of his life. He continues to work hard, but now it means raising millions of dollars for community projects in Brown County, Indiana. Newkirk founded the Brown County Community Foundation in 1992, served as its volunteer CEO for five years, and through it helped bring into being the Brown County Community YMCA, the award winning Brown County Public Library and the Brown County Career Resource Center. Newkirk also was the founder of the Rotary Club of Brown County. WHEAT will be an inspiration to those who think new opportunities are illusions and fulfillment in everyday life not theirs to achieve.

Memory Lane Was a Gravel Road for Eight Generations by Ed Butler Pdf

Ed Butler is fortunate to know so many stories about his ancestors. Some of the stories have been handed down for several generations. Others are his experiences. Often they bring to mind more questions than they answer. If you were homesteading land in 1821and your husband went to clear land one afternoon and totally disappeared, how would you survive? Could you survive a fifty mile trip in an ox cart, much of it through swampy woodlands, with three small children? The youngest was not old enough to eat solid food! Do you know anyone fourteen years old that left home and was gone for nearly six years before returning? Ed states that his Dad is the only person he ever knew that had traveled and lived in a covered wagon and the only person he knew that had trained and worked three yokes of oxen. His Dad milked cows for sixty-two years and was an “animal whisperer” long before the term “horse whisperer” was coined. Ed's Mother had a two year teachers certificate and taught school in a one room schoolhouse before she got married. She sure knew how to maintain order in her classroom! Have you ever eaten dried Tennessee strawberries? How many people that you know have owned a horse and top buggy and have driven it in a local parade? These stories and many others are told in this narrative. Often, Ed provides details and explains the terms he uses so today's reader can understand how he was raised and how eight generations survived the hardships they encountered.

Down Mason City's Memory Lane by Dale C. Fancher Pdf

Mason City, Illinois, a tiny rural community in the heart of the Midwest, is the setting for Dale Fancher's book of reflections and memories of a day gone by. A lifelong resident of Mason City, Fancher has a keen mind, and a heart for the quaint, easily lost memories of youth: From bathing in a galvanized washtub, to trailing behind the ice-delivery truck to beg shards of ice on a hot day; from fishing at Salt Creek at night and listening to the bobcats, to World War II blackouts. Reading Fancher's book, one becomes familiar with local characters like Kenny Hanover, still barbering after fifty years, and Edna Sylvie, the barefoot taxi lady. Told as a series of "Remember when .?" and "Did you ever .?" snippets, reading this book is like flipping through an old family photo album.
