Murrieta Hot Springs by Loretta Barnett,Marvin Curran,Tony Guenther Pdf

The sulfurous, effervescent waters of Murrieta Hot Springs have long attracted visitors. Native American petroglyph and pictograph images directed weary travelers to the springs where Juan Murrieta later bathed his sheep and a San Diego firm laundered clothing. In 1902, an enterprising German immigrant named Fritz Guenther developed acreage around the springs into a world-class resort and health spa at the Murrieta Hot Springs. After the Guenther family sold the resort, a stream of owners reportedly laundered money for the Teamsters Union and vended cancer cures, vegetarian foods, and holistic philosophies to those who ventured near enough to inhale sulfur rising in thick clouds of steam. Now the springs bubble under the watchful eye of Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa. They have renovated the grounds and buildings to honor the resort's former glory and have developed it into Calvary Chapel Bible College and Conference Center.

Byron Hot Springs by Jensen, Carol A.,East Contra Costa Historical Society Pdf

Byron Hot Springs is sometimes called the "Carlsbad of the West," after the famed European health spas. The resort hosted the famous, the wealthy, the infirm, and the curious alike during the early 20th century. The 160-acre property, in eastern Contra Costa County near the San Joaquin River, featured three grand hotels designed by renowned San Francisco architect James Reid. Amidst this stylish backdrop were prominent guests in 19th-century finery, early Hollywood royalty, Prohibition entertainments, mineral water "cures" for various ailments, and secret interrogations of World War II POWs (when it was known as "Camp Tracy"). Aside from the hot springs themselves, the resort boasts one of the oldest golf courses in the western United States.

Mineral Springs Road 1940s by M. B. Spears Pdf

The United States, once upon a time not long ago, was filled with family farms. You could walk along a country road and pass family after family. They'd maybe be working in the fields or around in the yard. They might be lounging on the porch drinking sweet cold tea. No big operations on houseless land, no amalgamations, no paved roads, no total efficiency, just home. They'd wave, and you'd wave. Growing fills a child's day all the way up. Years later we might -- or might not -- remember what was happening in the big world. Like the Great Depression, which (for some) was gone. And World War II, fought by Americans (mostly farm boys) far from home. In the 1940s, a child was growing up hungry to learn. She already knew that mules, herd dogs, and turkey gobblers don't like children but nanny goats and little dogs do, that bare feet are best, and that money is 'way less important than freedom and good grownups. Soon as she could read and print, she filled a dime-store diary every year. Each had a tiny clasp and key. At the end of summer 1949 she unlocked her diaries and found them tricky to read but full of true-to-life telling about animals, clashes, bravery, tangles, crops, shadows, lightning bugs and lightning. She spent 4 months translating their jumble into 20-some notebooks. Being in school by now and seeing differences, she added fierce defenses of feed-sack playclothes, outdoor toilets, and country ways. Being so young, the child couldn't grasp these further challenges of the 1940s: Farms are where the Great Depression hit first and gripped longest. Family farms depend on people who belong on the land, who brave its uncertainties. Those people are not considered good credit risks. Others without a clue how valuable farm life can be might get title. This means the ones with the most to lose often lose. Far more Americans went to war from farms than cities. Many came home eager to take up the lives they laid down. But post-war farmland could be bought up cheap by outsiders. On this confusing new battleground, who is the enemy? The Depression and the Duration combined to teach a dangerous double lesson: Take life day by day. Don't look too far forward. MINERAL SPRINGS ROAD 1940s is a little girl's notebooks, put together and expanded from memory. Its characters are tame, half-tame, and wild. At age not-quite-10, she's only half-tame herself, and too busy growing to realize how much she knows. Some chapters in her book: Reddish-Goldilocks Walking-Distance People How We Got Toby Pee Dee Country Nanny and the Soft Top Cap's Luck How Not To Ride a Mule Day of the Mad Fox The Army Air Base, the WAC, and Lassie Darlington Auction Market The Mint-Green House Storm, Lightning, Fire and Rain The Smell of Singed Fur The Mineral Spring Red Leather Pony And the last -- 28 December 1949 MINERAL SPRINGS ROAD 1940s is first in M B Spears' planned series MEMORY IS MY NAME.

Healing Springs by Nathaniel Altman Pdf

The first book to present medical evidence that mineral springs can prevent and cure disease--and to tell you which spas are most effective • Lists more than 200 of the best hot springs and mineral springs in the world and the health conditions best treated at each, with a special emphasis on springs in the U.S. and Canada • Reviews additional healing techniques that best complement bathing in and drinking medicinal waters--such as acupuncture, homeopathy, fasting programs, and fitness training • Includes photos of everything from famous spas to little-known hot springs The Fountain of Youth does exist! Author Nathaniel Altman shows that "taking the waters" is a powerful healing tool that rejuvenates the body and prevents a host of illnesses. Until now, it's been the best-kept secret for promoting and maintaining health and vitality. The use of natural mineral spring water for the prevention and cure of disease dates back 5000 years to the Bronze Age. Hot springs reached their heyday in the United States in the latter part of the 19th century and were well attended until the early 1940s. Balneotherapy--using natural mineral spring water for the prevention and cure of disease--continued to thrive elsewhere in the world and is making a big comeback in the United States. It is an accepted form of mainstream medicine in Europe and Japan, where an abundance of medical evidence shows that in addition to relieving stress, certain mineral waters can help the body heal itself from heart, liver, and kidney problems, skin diseases, asthma, digestive disorders, arthritis, and a host of other health problems.
