Mining is the Future by Alp Bora Pdf

Metals and minerals are all around us in our everyday lives. They’re used in everything from cars and kitchen appliances to smartphones and complex medical equipment. These natural resources are also integral to many forms of renewable energy. Mining is part of our transition to a clean future. As we expand the use of clean energy technologies, such as wind and solar power, the demand for metals and minerals will continue to grow exponentially. Yet if the mining industry is not clean, can we really call renewable energy technologies clean? To meet this increasing demand while protecting the environment, we must transition to sustainable mining practices. At the same time, we must double our efforts to improve the negative public perception of mining. Without the support of a committed and well-informed public, fundamental change in mining is not possible. This book offers a three-part framework that demonstrates how sustainability in the mining industry is possible. When these three components are integrated, the future of mining and renewable energy will truly be green. In mining, we don’t just dig a hole in the ground. We build the world. We build the future of the world. Let’s do it sustainably together.

The Future of Mining in South Africa: Sunset or Sunrise? by Valiani, Salimah Pdf

The future of mining in South Africa is hotly contested. Wide-ranging views from multiple quarters rarely seem to intersect, placing emphasis on different questions without engaging in holistic debate. This book aims to catalyse change by gathering together fragmented views into unifying conversations. It highlights the importance of debating the future of mining in South Africa and for reaching consensus in other countries across the mineral-dependent globe. It covers issues such as the potential of platinum to spur industrialisation, land and dispossession on the platinum belt, the roles of the state and capital in mineral development, mining in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the experiences of women in and affected by mining since the late 19th century and mine worker organising: history and lessons and how post-mine rehabilitation can be tackled. It was inspired not only by an appreciation of South Africa’s extensive mineral endowments, but also by a realisation that, while the South African mining industry performs relatively well on many technical indicators, its management of broader social issues leaves much to be desired. It needs to be deliberated whether the mining industry can play as critical a role going forward as it did in the evolution of the country’s economy.

Mining Techniques by Abhay Soni Pdf

Mining techniques have evolved over time, culminating in the well-defined field of “mining science,” which encompasses aspects such as engineering, chemistry, physics, technology, and management, among others. This book explains how mining techniques can be handled and improved further to make mining practices far more productive, safe, and eco-friendly. It is a useful resource for researchers, students, policy formulators, and decision-makers in different areas of mining and engineering.

Evolutionary and Revolutionary Technologies for Mining by National Research Council,Committee on Earth Resources,Board on Earth Sciences and Resources,National Materials Advisory Board,Committee on Technologies for the Mining Industries Pdf

The Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT) of the U. S. Department of Energy commissioned the National Research Council (NRC) to undertake a study on required technologies for the Mining Industries of the Future Program to complement information provided to the program by the National Mining Association. Subsequently, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health also became a sponsor of this study, and the Statement of Task was expanded to include health and safety. The overall objectives of this study are: (a) to review available information on the U.S. mining industry; (b) to identify critical research and development needs related to the exploration, mining, and processing of coal, minerals, and metals; and (c) to examine the federal contribution to research and development in mining processes.

A Stake in the Future by Mary Louise McAllister,Cynthia Alexander Pdf

A Stake in the Future is a comprehensive study of the Whitehorse Mining Initiative, which was first conceived by the leaders in the Canadian mining industry. The goal was to revitalize the mining industry, attract new investment and forge an alliance with major stakeholders such as government, environmental groups, First Nations, the mining industry, and labour. The book examines the political, cultural, and policy issues involved in developing a new consenus-based approach to resolving land and resource use disputes with particular focus on a national multi-stakeholder initiative in the mineral sector.

Mining Complex Networks by Bogumil Kaminski,Pawel Prałat,Francois Theberge Pdf

This book concentrates on mining networks, a subfield within data science. Data science uses scientific and computational tools to extract valuable knowledge from large data sets. Once data is processed and cleaned, it is analyzed and presented to support decision-making processes. Data science and machine learning tools have become widely used in companies of all sizes. Networks are often large-scale, decentralized, and evolve dynamically over time. Mining complex networks aim to understand the principles governing the organization and the behavior of such networks is crucial for a broad range of fields of study. Here are a few selected typical applications of mining networks: Community detection (which users on some social media platforms are close friends). Link prediction (who is likely to connect to whom on such platforms). Node attribute prediction (what advertisement should be shown to a given user of a particular platform to match their interests). Influential node detection (which social media users would be the best ambassadors of a specific product). This textbook is suitable for an upper-year undergraduate course or a graduate course in programs such as data science, mathematics, computer science, business, engineering, physics, statistics, and social science. This book can be successfully used by all enthusiasts of data science at various levels of sophistication to expand their knowledge or consider changing their career path. Jupiter notebooks (in Python and Julia) accompany the book and can be accessed on https://www.ryerson.ca/mining-complex-networks/. These not only contain all the experiments presented in the book, but also include additional material. Bogumił Kamiński is the Chairman of the Scientific Council for the Discipline of Economics and Finance at SGH Warsaw School of Economics. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Data Science Laboratory at Ryerson University. Bogumił is an expert in applications of mathematical modeling to solving complex real-life problems. He is also a substantial open-source contributor to the development of the Julia language and its package ecosystem. Paweł Prałat is a Professor of Mathematics in Ryerson University, whose main research interests are in random graph theory, especially in modeling and mining complex networks. He is the Director of Fields-CQAM Lab on Computational Methods in Industrial Mathematics in The Fields Institute for Research in Mathematical Sciences and has pursued collaborations with various industry partners as well as the Government of Canada. He has written over 170 papers and three books with 130 plus collaborators. François Théberge holds a B.Sc. degree in applied mathematics from the University of Ottawa, a M.Sc. in telecommunications from INRS and a PhD in electrical engineering from McGill University. He has been employed by the Government of Canada since 1996 where he was involved in the creation of the data science team as well as the research group now known as the Tutte Institute for Mathematics and Computing. He also holds an adjunct professorial position in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Ottawa. His current interests include relational-data mining and deep learning.

The future of Mining Industry in Guinea by Ibrahima Soumah Pdf

Guinea was identified as a mining country long time ago since quantity of gold coming from the Bouré region, near Siguiri, constituted the power and reputation of medieval Mandingue empire. For the Guinean people and those observing them, the real scandal is having so much resources and remaining among the poorest countries in the world with the HDI classification ranking Guinea to the 160 th place out of 175 countries, while its income per capita is below $500/year. This book provides information on the potential and the evolution of the Guinean mining sector.
