Miracles and the Modern Mind by Norman L. Geisler Pdf

That miracles exist is an important part of the Christian tradition, yet a brief survey of modern thought reveals a marked prejudice against this notion. Here, Geisler shows how the laws of logic and science speak to the reasonableness of miracles. A dispassionate look at the facts and arguments demands that doubters question their own naturalistic assumptions. Geisler also describes signs, wonders, and power, contrasting what the Bible means by a miracle with bizarre stories of saints, faith healers, and occultists. A continuation of his work begun in 'Miracles and Modern Thought', 'Miracles and the Modern Mind' includes extensive revisions and additions.

Miracles of Mind by Russell Targ,Jane Katra, PhD Pdf

The authors begin with compelling evidence of psychic abilities gathered in Targ's remote-viewing experiments for the Stanford Research Institute. Targ reveals how the experiments were conducted and how subjects were able to describe remote locations with precise detail. Targ also presents the results of recently declassified, covertly funded CIA experiments in remote spying during the Cold War, published here for the first time. After surveying the scientific evidence of the mind's nonlocal powers, Targ and Katra apply this evidence to the field of healing. Incorporating ancient Eastern teachings and modern scientific evidence published in the most prestigious scientific journals, Targ and Katra explain the process of spiritual healing, which they describe as a quieting of the mind to open it to the community of spirit. The book stays with you long after you put it down. It can change the way you view the world — and yourself.

Ask for a show of hands at any self-help gathering, and 95 percent will happily admit to owning the dense blue book that's a famous resource for spiritual transformation. Ask the obvious follow-up, "How many have actually read it?" and all but a smattering of hands go down. It's as if everyone wants the miracles, the forgiveness, and the mind shifts, but they just can't bear its ponderous heaviness. Pam Grout to the rescue! A Book of Miracles by Dr. Bernie S. Siegel Pdf

Heartwarming and Heart-Opening Stories Gathered from Decades of Medical Practice Bernie Siegel first wrote about miracles when he was a practicing surgeon and founded Exceptional Cancer Patients, a groundbreaking synthesis of group, individual, dream, and art therapy that provided patients with a “carefrontation.” Compiled during his more than thirty years of practice, speaking, and teaching, the stories in these pages are riveting, warm, and belief expanding. Their subjects include a girl whose baby brother helped her overcome anorexia, a woman whose cancer helped her heal by teaching her to stand up for herself, and a family that was saved from a burning house by bats. Without diminishing the reality of pain and hardship, the stories show real people turning crisis into blessing by responding to adversity in ways that empower and heal. They demonstrate what we are capable of and show us that we can achieve miracles as we confront life’s difficulties.

The Nature Miracles of Jesus by Graham H. Twelftree Pdf

The nature miracle stories of Jesus—walking on the water or feeding thousands with a small amount of food, for example—are so spectacular that many find them a problem, whether historical, philosophical, or even theological. This is the first book to tackle this problem head on. Do the stories reflect events in the life of the historical Jesus, or are they myths or legends? Or, perhaps they grew out of parables or from more ordinary events into the incredible stories we now have. Or, again, perhaps this the wrong approach! A group of high-ranking biblical historians, philosophers, and theologians with very diverse views set out to provide possible answers. Contributors include: • James Crossley • Eric Eve • Craig S. Keener • Michael Levine • Timothy J. McGrew • Scot McKnight • Graham H. Twelftree • Ruben Zimmermann

Miracles Today by Craig S. Keener Pdf

Do miracles still happen today? This book demonstrates that miraculous works of God, which have been part of the experience of the church around the world since Christianity began, continue into the present. Leading New Testament scholar Craig Keener addresses common questions about miracles and provides compelling reasons to believe in them today, including many accounts that offer evidence of verifiable miracles. This book gives an accessible and concise overview of one of Keener's most significant research topics. His earlier two-volume work on miracles stands as the definitive word on the topic, but its size and scope are daunting to many readers. This new book summarizes Keener's basic argument but contains substantial new material, including new accounts of the miraculous. It is suitable as a textbook but also accessible to church leaders and laypeople.

Miracles : 2 Volumes by Craig S. Keener Pdf

Christianity Today 2013 Book Award Winner Winner of The Foundation for Pentecostal Scholarship's 2012 Award of Excellence 2011 Book of the Year, Christianbook.com's Academic Blog Most modern prejudice against biblical miracle reports depends on David Hume's argument that uniform human experience precluded miracles. Yet current research shows that human experience is far from uniform. In fact, hundreds of millions of people today claim to have experienced miracles. New Testament scholar Craig Keener argues that it is time to rethink Hume's argument in light of the contemporary evidence available to us. This wide-ranging and meticulously researched two-volume study presents the most thorough current defense of the credibility of the miracle reports in the Gospels and Acts. Drawing on claims from a range of global cultures and taking a multidisciplinary approach to the topic, Keener suggests that many miracle accounts throughout history and from contemporary times are best explained as genuine divine acts, lending credence to the biblical miracle reports.

Invading the Realm of Demons, Disease, and Death by Carl E. Roemer Pdf

This study of the miracles attributed to Jesus in the Gospels begins with a survey of the sciences, because in our present cultural context, materialism is the dominant approach to and understanding of our world, of history, and of our very selves. If the materialist's understanding is true, then there is no such thing as miracles, because every event must occur as the result of some previous material events. Contemporary biblical scholarship mostly approaches the miracle stories from a materialist point of view. It questions their historicity because they violate what has now become the entrenched modus operandi in our culture and society, operating with the idea that the universe is a closed nexus of cause and effect. The miracles are understood, then, as products of the community and not historical reports, although, according to this line of scholarship, they may be based on some vague recollection of Jesus's activity that somehow had healing effects. Modern science, however, as one scientist has put it, in climbing the mountain of knowledge, has reached its peak and found a theologian at the top. The sciences, in other words, have led to the implication that our universe has a creator and that the universe and the human genome have been designed.

Seeing the Light by Michael J. Eckstein,John S. Knox Pdf

For every human on earth, the clock is ticking towards their inevitable death. Whether one lives to the oldest of ages (expiring quietly) or death comes suddenly with a slip on the ice (or in any other of the myriad of ways people die), the end of biological life is the outcome for everyone. For the Christian, however, there is the expectation of continuation beyond this fleeting life on earth. Naturalists have no such optimism and can only hope that their time on earth is a pleasant one. Because Christians have a divine assurance, they want to share that hope with others. Still, theological questions remain: Can near-death experiences help lead those far from Christ to him? Can they be added to the repertoire of apologetic arguments for Christianity? This book examines the truth surrounding near-death experiences: how they have been seen in human culture, what the scientific community is learning about those who have near-death experiences, and how near-death experiences can be used (or not used) in your evangelistic encounters.

Getting at Jesus by Peter S. Williams Pdf

Portraying themselves as challenging blind religious dogma with evidence-led skepticism, the neo-atheist movement claims that the New Testament contains unreliable tales about a mythical figure who, far from being the resurrected Lord of life, may not even have lived. This comprehensive critique documents the falsehood of these neo-atheist claims, correcting their historical and philosophical mistakes to show how we can get at the truth about the historical Jesus.
