"In Modern Hematolgoy: Biology and Clinical Management, Reinhold Munker and his colleagues offer a summary of the fundamentals of clinical hematology, including all the most recent developments. Their survey presents the essential clinical facts concerning malignant and nonmalignant blood diseases, detailing diagnostic methods, angiostatic drugs, the very latest therapies (e.g., stem cell transplantation), classifications, scientific controversies, and clear treatment recommendations. They also illuminate the scientific basis needed to understand the new diagnostic and treatment methodologies, the molecular pathogenesis of many hematologic disorders, and the new cellular therapies for these malignant disorders. All major blood diseases are covered, as well as the rarer disorders of special scientific interest."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. All Rights Reserved

Practical Guide to Modern Hematology Analyzers by Warren Groner,Elkin Simson Pdf

In recent years there has been a widespread implementation of a new generation of hematology analyzers in the laboratory. These modern cell counters have contributed significantly to our ability to automatically and precisely measure a variety of characteristics in different cell types, including leukocyte sub-classes which were previously determined only microscopically. With this revolution in the hematology laboratory, there have been enormous cost savings and there is clearly an opportunity to improve the quality of service. Here, the authors present a practical guide for the hematology laboratory professional. They review the technology used in the new devices and the integration of the analyzers into the laboratory. Performance of these counters and quality assurance strategies are also discussed, paying particular attention to the state of the art technology, its merits and the potential for future advances. At present there is no other single guide to modern hematological cell counters which focuses on laboratory practice and treats all available technologies in depth. This text, written by authors who are internationally recognized for their research in this area, will have a wide audience including laboratory directors, hematologists, pathologists, administrators, technologists and technicians involved in hematology and diagnostic testing, medical practitioners and groups handling pharmaceutical trials.

Hematology - E-Book by Bernadette F. Rodak,Elaine M. Keohane,George A. Fritsma Pdf

Featuring hundreds of full-color photomicrographs, Hematology: Clinical Principles and Applications prepares you for a job in the clinical lab by exploring the essential aspects of hematology. It shows how to accurately identify cells, simplifies hemostasis and thrombosis concepts, and covers normal hematopoiesis through diseases of erythroid, myeloid, lymphoid, and megakaryocytic origins. This book also makes it easy to understand complementary testing areas such as flow cytometry, cytogenetics, and molecular diagnostics. Well-known authors Bernadette Rodak, George Fritsma, and Elaine Keohane cover everything from working in a hematology lab to the parts and functions of the cell to laboratory testing of blood cells and body fluid cells. Full-color illustrations make it easier to visualize complex concepts and show what you’ll encounter in the lab. Learning objectives begin each chapter, and review questions appear at the end. Instructions for lab procedures include sources of possible errors along with comments. Case studies provide opportunities to apply hematology concepts to real-life scenarios. Hematology instruments are described, compared, and contrasted. Coverage of hemostasis and thrombosis includes the development and function of platelets, the newest theories of normal coagulation, and clear discussions of platelet abnormalities and disorders of coagulation. A bulleted summary of important content appears at the end of every chapter. A glossary of key terms makes it easy to find and learn definitions. Hematology/hemostasis reference ranges are listed on the inside front and back covers for quick reference. Respected editors Bernadette Rodak, George Fritsma, and Elaine Keohane are well known in the hematology/clinical laboratory science world. Student resources on the companion Evolve website include the glossary, weblinks, and content updates. New content is added on basic cell biology and etiology of leukocyte neoplasias. Updated Molecular Diagnostics chapter keeps you current on techniques being used in the lab. Simplified hemostasis material ensures that you can understand this complex and important subject. Coverage of morphologic alteration of monocytes/macrophages is condensed into a table, as the disorders in this grouping are more of a biochemical nature with minimal hematologic evidence.

Contemporary Hematology/Oncology by Albert S. Gordon,Joseph LoBue Pdf

The continuous advances in our understanding of hematology and neo plastic disorders have made possible this third volume of reviews. Their purpose is to summarize investigations which have defined new concepts, and, it is hoped, stimulate new ideas. In the choice of subjects, we have attempted to retain the balance between academic and clinical interests. We are grateful to the contributors, who have maintained the high stan dards set in the earlier volumes, and for feedback from readers. Both have helped to orient the direction of this series. It was a reader who pointed out that the title of the two earlier volumes, The Year in Hematol ogy, was misleading since it suggested a detailed review of trends and findings limited to the last year. In response to this valid comment, The Year . . . has been changed to Contemporary . . . and the scope has been expanded to encompass the kindred disciplines of hematology and oncol ogy. Another editor, Franco M. Muggia, has been added to provide addi tional expertise for the latter field. The title of the present and future volumes has been changed to Contemporary Hematology/Oncology. It has been pointed out to us that considerable ingenuity will be needed to find topics not already covered. We believe that the papers in the present volume have met this challenge. As before, the readers' comments con cerning Contemporary Hematology/Oncology will be appreciated. Joseph LoBue Albert S. Gordon Robert Silber Franco M.

Diagnostic Hematology by Norman Beck Pdf

The approach described in this book is different from that in most student texts, and has been very successful in practice, starting almost from scratch, but omitting many of the ‘basics’ such as the details of hematopoiesis, laboratory technology, and so on, which are hardly relevant to the practising clinician and student in the wards, and are primarily of interest to the hematologist and sometimes to the clinical specialist. Considerable emphasis is given to the clinical history and examination, and the interpretation of the clinical patterns thus exposed. Hopefully it will overcome many of the traditional problems experienced in practical diagnostic haematology.
