Narratives from the Crib by Katherine Nelson Pdf

This classic psychological case study focuses on one talkative child's emerging ability to use language, her capacity for understanding, for imagining, and for making inferences and solving problems. In wide-ranging essays, scholars offer multifaceted linguistic and psychological analyses of two-year-old Emily's bedtime conversations with her parents and pre-sleep monologues, taped over a fifteen-month period. In a foreword written for this new edition, Emily, now an adult, reflects on the experience of having been a research subject without knowing it.

Life on Th' Rockin' W by Leon Willis Pdf

I started the story of Life On Th' Rockin' W in 1964. I have always loved horses, worked horses, and had a passion to draw. With that combination, I began to create a story in the form of a comic strip, of a family's struggles, good times, and adventures on a ranch. After the completion of 16 pages, I submitted the idea of Life On Th' Rockin' W to The Tennessean to become one of their paper's comic strips. They rejected the idea and I returned home somewhat disappointed. Having the responsibility of supporting my family and helping my wife raise our seven children, I put my dream aside. In 2009, 45 years later, I resurrected my long neglected dream, the story of Life On Th' Rockin' W. The local weekly newspaper began to publish the comic strip and soon afterward had a dedicated following of readers. This book is a collection of the comic strip in its entirety. As the story unfolded there was a colt born, that was given the name "Sparky". There was actually a horse in my past named Sparky. I had big dreams for him, maybe the next Trigger. I had to sell him because I had to go to War. The new Sparky that was revealed in the comic strip is in memory of the original. The coloring book Sparky and Some Friends was created from the story of Life On Th' Rockin' W. Family, true to life characters, friends, and neighbors form the nucleus of the book, along with a host of horses and other animals. I hope you have a good visit with us.

Daddy's Girls by Suzanne Gold Pdf

Daddys Girls is a rich yet simple family tale of love, madness and spirit told in the three first-person points of view of its three women. Overlapping vignettes create a vivid patchwork of lifes defining moments to reveal dark forces lurking beneath the familys typical middle-class veneer as they struggle to love one another. The story is fiction with a dash of magical realism, but the inspiration is autobiographical. Daddys Girls recently received a glowing review from Terry Mathews of Bookbrowser.com. She calls it A book that will speak to you on many levels...that can alter your perception of the world, broaden your horizons and urge you to think outside the box. The best book Ive read since Cunninghams THE HOURS. And Ruth Williams, author of Younger Than That Now says Daddys Girls is a luxuriant narrative, telling the stories of three complex women two sisters and their mother and how their lives are impacted by the mental illness of one. A fascinating and obviously well-informed look at heartbreaking realities. This is a book written from the heart.

A Good Horse by Jane Smiley Pdf

When eighth grader Abby Lovitt looks out at those pure-gold rolling hills, she knows there’s no place she’d rather be than her family’s ranch—even with all the hard work of tending to nine horses. But some chores are no work at all, like grooming young Jack. At eight months, his rough foal coat has shed out, leaving a smooth, rich silk, like chocolate. As for Black George, such a good horse, it turns out he’s a natural jumper. When he and Abby clear four feet easy as pie, heads start to turn at the ring—buyers’ heads—and Abby knows Daddy won’t turn down a good offer. Then a letter arrives from a private investigator, and suddenly Abby stands to lose not one horse but two. The letter states that Jack’s mare may have been sold to the Lovitts as stolen goods. A mystery unfolds, more surprising than Abby could ever expect. Will she lose her beloved Jack to his rightful owners? Pulitzer Prize winner Jane Smiley raises horses of her own, and her affection and expertise shine through in this inviting horse novel for young readers, set in 1960s California horse country and featuring characters from The Georges and the Jewels.

Chasing the Minnesota Moon by Steven Dale McDowell Pdf

Paulette--the new wife, the mother, the grandmother--will call her daughter, Janita, and describe this beautiful moon witnessed on her honeymoon to Minnesota. Can an everyday moon really be that beautiful? It can if you are Paulette. It's almost ritual, the abuse Paulette had suffered at the hands of her mother's boyfriend, Harley Bull. What's a girl of six to do? She loved her daddy, Gustav Swenson, but was seeing him only on weekends enough? No. Abandoned by her mother, Gustav gains custody. Gustav and Paulette move from Washington State to farm half of his brother's homestead in Newfolden, Minnesota. She learns the meaning of love, the expected promise of forever. From her daddy? Yes. From her aunties Laura and Ulla? Yes. From her best friend, Mary? Yes. From Jacky Slogard? Absolutely. But sometimes love is not as comely and dependable as we might wish it to be, is it? The growth of overall peace and happiness--of contentment with our place in life--can very well come with a number of unpleasant circumstances during the living of that life. Will there be surprises in Paulette's life? Yes. Will there be miracles? Definitely: Life itself is a miracle. And within life, finding love and giving love are precious miracles. Paulette--all of us--must embrace those precious moments of loves worth.
