Motion of a Drop in an Incompressible Fluid by I. V. Denisova,V. A. Solonnikov Pdf

This mathematical monograph details the authors' results on solutions to problems governing the simultaneous motion of two incompressible fluids. Featuring a thorough investigation of the unsteady motion of one fluid in another, researchers will find this to be a valuable resource when studying non-coercive problems to which standard techniques cannot be applied. As authorities in the area, the authors offer valuable insight into this area of research, which they have helped pioneer. This volume will offer pathways to further research for those interested in the active field of free boundary problems in fluid mechanics, and specifically the two-phase problem for the Navier-Stokes equations. The authors’ main focus is on the evolution of an isolated mass with and without surface tension on the free interface. Using the Lagrange and Hanzawa transformations, local well-posedness in the Hölder and Sobolev–Slobodeckij on L2 spaces is proven as well. Global well-posedness for small data is also proven, as is the well-posedness and stability of the motion of two phase fluid in a bounded domain. Motion of a Drop in an Incompressible Fluid will appeal to researchers and graduate students working in the fields of mathematical hydrodynamics, the analysis of partial differential equations, and related topics.

Navier—Stokes Equations and Related Nonlinear Problems by Adélia Sequeira Pdf

This volume contains the Proceedings of the Third International Conference on Navier-Stokes Equations and Related Nonlinear Problems. The conference was held in Funchal (Madeira, Portugal), on May 21-27, 1994. In addition to the editor, the organizers were Carlos Albuquerque (FC, University of Lisbon), Casimiro Silva (University of Madeira) and Juha Videman (1ST, Technical University of Lisbon). This meeting, following two other successful events of similar type held in Thurnau (Germany) in 1992 and in Cento (Italy) in 1993, brought together, to the majestically beautiful island of Madeira, more than 60 specialists from all around the world, of which about two thirds were invited lecturers. The main interest of the meeting was focused on the mathematical analysis of nonlinear phenomena in fluid mechanics. During the conference, we noticed that this area seems to provide, today more than ever, challenging and increasingly important problems motivating the research of both theoretical and numerical analysts. This volume collects 32 articles selected from the invited lectures and contributed papers given during the conference. The main topics covered include: Flows in Unbounded Domains; Flows in Bounded Domains; Compressible Fluids; Free Boundary Problems; Non-Newtonian Fluids; Related Problems and Numerical Approximations. The contributions present original results or new surveys on recent developments, giving directions for future research. I express my gratitude to all the authors and I am glad to recognize the scientific level and the actual interest of the articles.

Transport Phenomena with Drops and Bubbles by Satwindar S. Sadhal,Portonovo S. Ayyaswamy,Jacob N. Chung Pdf

Fluid flows that transfer heat and mass often involve drops and bubbles, particularly if there are changes of phase in the fluid in the formation or condensation of steam, for example. Such flows pose problems for the chemical and mechanical engineer significantly different from those posed by single-phase flows. This book reviews the current state of the field and will serve as a reference for researchers, engineers, teachers, and students concerned with transport phenomena. It begins with a review of the basics of fluid flow and a discussion of the shapes and sizes of fluid particles and the factors that determine these. The discussion then turns to flows at low Reynolds numbers, including effects due to phase changes or to large radial inertia. Flows at intermediate and high Reynolds numbers are treated from a numerical perspective, with reference to experimental results. The next chapter considers the effects of solid walls on fluid particles, treating both the statics and dynamics of the particle-wall interaction and the effects of phase changes at a solid wall. This is followed by a discussion of the formation and breakup of drops and bubbles, both with and without phase changes. The last two chapters discuss compound drops and bubbles, primarily in three-phase systems, and special topics, such as transport in an electric field.

Interfacial Fluid Dynamics and Transport Processes by Ranga Narayanan,Dietrich Schwabe Pdf

The present set of lectures and tutorial reviews deals with various topical aspects related to instabilities of interfacial processes and driven flows from both the theoretical and experimental point of views. New research has been spurred by demands for many applications in material sciences (melting, solidification, electro deposition), biomedical engineering and processing in microgravity environments. This book is intended as both a modern source of reference for researchers in the field as well as an introduction to postgraduate students and non-specialists from related areas.
