Unitary Invariants in Multivariable Operator Theory by Gelu Popescu Pdf

This paper concerns unitary invariants for $n$-tuples $T:=(T_1,\ldots, T_n)$ of (not necessarily commuting) bounded linear operators on Hilbert spaces. The author introduces a notion of joint numerical radius and works out its basic properties. Multivariable versions of Berger's dilation theorem, Berger-Kato-Stampfli mapping theorem, and Schwarz's lemma from complex analysis are obtained. The author studies the joint (spatial) numerical range of $T$ in connection with several unitary invariants for $n$-tuples of operators such as: right joint spectrum, joint numerical radius, euclidean operator radius, and joint spectral radius. He also proves an analogue of Toeplitz-Hausdorff theorem on the convexity of the spatial numerical range of an operator on a Hilbert space, for the joint numerical range of operators in the noncommutative analytic Toeplitz algebra $F_n^\infty$.

Multivariable Operator Theory by Raúl E. Curto Pdf

This volume contains a collection of papers presented at the Summer Research Conference on Multivariable Operator Theory, held in July 1993 at the University of Washington in Seattle. The articles contain contributions to a variety of areas and topics which may be viewed as forming an emerging new subject. This subject involves the study of geometric rather than topological invariants associated with the general theme of operator theory in several variables. Developments have occurred in several different directions, with the aid of a variety of techniques, and many advances have been made through cross-pollination among different areas of mathematics. The goal of the conference, and of this volume, is to spur discussion of the connections among the various approaches and new directions for research.

Operator Theory, Operator Algebras, and Applications by Great Plains Operator Theory Symposium Pdf

This book offers a presentation of some new trends in operator theory and operator algebras, with a view to their applications. It consists of separate papers written by some of the leading practitioners in the field. The content is put together by the three editors in a way that should help students and working mathematicians in other parts of the mathematical sciences gain insight into an important part of modern mathematics and its applications. While different specialist authors are outlining new results in this book, the presentations have been made user friendly with the aid of tutorial material. In fact, each paper contains three things: a friendly introduction with motivation, tutorial material, and new research. The authors have strived to make their results relevant to the rest of mathematics. A list of topics discussed in the book includes wavelets, frames and their applications, quantum dynamics, multivariable operator theory, $C*$-algebras, and von Neumann algebras. Some longer papers present recent advances on particular, long-standing problems such as extensions and dilations, the Kadison-Singer conjecture, and diagonals of self-adjoint operators.

Operator Theory in Different Settings and Related Applications by Roland Duduchava,Marinus A. Kaashoek,Nikolai Vasilevski,Victor Vinnikov Pdf

This book provides a selection of reports and survey articles on the latest research in the area of single and multivariable operator theory and related fields. The latter include singular integral equations, ordinary and partial differential equations, complex analysis, numerical linear algebra, and real algebraic geometry – all of which were among the topics presented at the 26th International Workshop in Operator Theory and its Applications, held in Tbilisi, Georgia, in the summer of 2015. Moreover, the volume includes three special commemorative articles. One of them is dedicated to the memory of Leiba Rodman, another to Murray Marshall, and a third to Boris Khvedelidze, an outstanding Georgian mathematician and one of the founding fathers of the theory of singular integral equations. The book will be of interest to a broad range of mathematicians, from graduate students to researchers, whose primary interests lie in operator theory, complex analysis and applications, as well as specialists in mathematical physics.

This book is dedicated to the memory of Israel Gohberg (1928–2009) – one of the great mathematicians of our time – who inspired innumerable fellow mathematicians and directed many students. The volume reflects the wide spectrum of Gohberg’s mathematical interests. It consists of more than 25 invited and peer-reviewed original research papers written by his former students, co-authors and friends. Included are contributions to single and multivariable operator theory, commutative and non-commutative Banach algebra theory, the theory of matrix polynomials and analytic vector-valued functions, several variable complex function theory, and the theory of structured matrices and operators. Also treated are canonical differential systems, interpolation, completion and extension problems, numerical linear algebra and mathematical systems theory.

Systems, Approximation, Singular Integral Operators, and Related Topics by Alexander A. Borichev,Nikolai K. Nikolski Pdf

This book is devoted to some topical problems and applications of operator theory and its interplay with modern complex analysis. It consists of 20 selected survey papers that represent updated (mainly plenary) addresses to the IWOTA 2000 conference held at Bordeaux from June 13 to 16, 2000. The main subjects of the volume include: - spectral analysis of periodic differential operators and delay equations, stabilizing controllers, Fourier multipliers; - multivariable operator theory, model theory, commutant lifting theorems, coisometric realizations; - Hankel operators and forms; - operator algebras; - the Bellman function approach in singular integrals and harmonic analysis, singular integral operators and integral representations; - approximation in holomorphic spaces. These subjects are unified by the common "operator theoretic approach" and the systematic use of modern function theory techniques.

Unbounded Weighted Composition Operators in L2-Spaces by Piotr Budzyński,Zenon Jabłoński,Il Bong Jung,Jan Stochel Pdf

This book establishes the foundations of the theory of bounded and unbounded weighted composition operators in L2-spaces. It develops the theory in full generality, meaning that the corresponding composition operators are not assumed to be well defined. A variety of seminormality properties of unbounded weighted composition operators are characterized. The first-ever criteria for subnormality of unbounded weighted composition operators are provided and the subtle interplay between the classical moment problem, graph theory and the injectivity problem for weighted composition operators is revealed. The relationships between weighted composition operators and the corresponding multiplication and composition operators are investigated. The optimality of the obtained results is illustrated by a variety of examples, including those of discrete and continuous types. The book is primarily aimed at researchers in single or multivariable operator theory.
