Murder and Mayhem at Old Bunbury by Clive Endive Ogive Iv Pdf

Murder and Mayhem at Old Bunbury, Clive Endive Ogive IV's eagerly awaited follow-up to his extremely successful and hugely influential Private Clubs in America and around the World, is another VERY clever and perceptive look into the special world of private clubs. In Murder and Mayhem at Old Bunbury, President Clive and waitress-extraordinaire Esther team up to solve a gruesome murder at one of the world's truly great private clubs: the Old Bunbury Golf Links & Reading Club. Along the way Clive and Esther reacquaint you with many wacky old friends and introduce you to some even zanier new ones. Private clubs are inextricably woven into the very fabric of America's history, traditions and culture-and for that matter, those histories, traditions and cultures of ALL free societies around the world-and members, employees and guests alike (well, maybe not guests) will enjoy the author's penetrating insights, off-beat humor, blatant irreverence and sarcastic wit. EVERYONE with a sense of humor (club member or not) will laugh his socks off at this latest Clive tale. Clive Endive Ogive IV belongs to at least eighteen very exclusive private clubs-certainly all the ones that matter. The fact that he has a Roman numeral four after his name and is exclusive heir to a trust fund whose annual interest is sufficient to pay all his annual club dues in perpetuity-and also somehow manages to write all this money off on his taxes as "legitimate business deductions"-is more than enough to qualify him to author multiple groundbreaking and awe-inspiring books about the wonderful world of private clubs. For more information-and to order additional copies for your friends, enemies, fellow club members and fellow club employees-please visit Clive's website at www.CliveEndiveOgiveIV.com. Soul on Nice by Norm Spitzig Pdf

Soul on Nice chronicles the latest and greatest adventures of the Old Bunbury Golf Links & Reading Club's waitress extraordinaire Esther, the highly eccentric but undeniably lovable protagonist of his previous epic works. This time Norm's scintillating tale is truly global in scope, with Esther opening the novel zooming her merry old way to beautiful New Zealand. This titanic clash between good and evil is part playful and evocative travelogue, part staunch conservative manifesto, part clever and poignant mystery, part whimsical expose of the madcap world of private clubs, and all treasure trove of quirky good cheer. While anyone with a decent sense of humor will surely love Norm's latest story, readers who also understand and appreciate the fascinating world of private golf clubs will be doubly pleased. Norm Spitzig, internationally recognized as a successful entrepreneur, leading private club governance and operations consultant, and eloquent, visionary, humorous and engaging speaker on a variety of important business and lifestyle topics, resides in the historic town of Mount Dora, Florida with his bride, Cody, and chocolate Labrador, Lucy. Norm, qua Clive Endive Ogive IV, is the author of three very funny and insightful books: Private Clubs in America and around the World, Murder and Mayhem at Old Bunbury (both of which are available at www.CliveEndiveOgiveIV.com) and How Now, Norm's Tao, a riveting autobiography that was recently hailed as a "powerful and poignant memoir by one of the most accomplished and unique writers to grace contemporary American literature." Both How Now, Norm's Tao and Soul on Nice are available at www.NormSpitzig.com."

Snobbery with Violence by Colin Watson Pdf

'One of the most consistently busy of Britain's home industries during the past fifty years has been the manufacture of crime fiction. Some three hundred writers now contribute, more or less regularly, to the satisfaction of the public's appetite for books about murder, theft, fraud, espionage, arson, blackmail and kindred activities. . . This book is not an attempt to catalogue them . . . Its purpose is to explore some of the crime and mystery fiction of the past half century for clues to the convictions and attitudes of the large section of British society for which it was written.' In Snobbery with Violence: English Crime Stories and Their Audience, Colin Watson explores the social attitudes that are reflected in the detective story and the thriller. From Conan Doyle and Edgar Wallace to Agatha Christie and Ian Fleming, Watson takes the reader on an entertaining and informative investigation into the world of crime fiction. First published in 1971 Snobbery with Violence has become a minor classic of literary and social history and should grace the bookshelves of every crime aficionado.

Leper Knights by David Marcombe Pdf

One of the most unusual contributions to the crusading era was the idea of the leper knight - a response to the scourge of leprosy and the shortage of fighting men which beset the Latin kingdom in the twelfth century. The Order of St Lazarus, which saw the idea become a reality, founded establishments across Western Europe to provide essential support for its hospitaller and military vocations. This book explores the important contribution of the English branch of the order, which by 1300 managed a considerable estate from its chief preceptory at Burton Lazars in Leicestershire. Time proved the English Lazarites to be both tough and tenacious, if not always preoccupied with the care of lepers. Following the fall of Acre in 1291 they endured a period of bitter internal conflict, only to emerge reformed and reinvigorated in the fifteenth century. Though these late medieval knights were very different from their twelfth-century predecessors, some ideologies lingered on, though subtly readapted to the requirements of a new age, until the order was finally suppressed by Henry VIII in 1544. The modern refoundation of the order, a charitable institution, dates from 1962. The book uses both documentary and archaeological evidence to provide the first ever account of this little-understood crusading order.DAVID MARCOMBE is Director of the Centre for Local History, University of Nottingham.
