Sis’Ter by Rosetta Chatman Davis Pdf

In her autobiography, Rosetta Chatman Davis describes her difficult life growing up in the Fifties and Sixties on a farm in Greeleyville, South Carolina. Rosetta gives detailed family history from slavery to freedom, and through the Depression and World War II. Many of their experiences will bring you to tears. This is not just another “Down South” story, but a success story of a Black family who prayed and persevered through the injustice of sharecropping, ‘Jim Crow’ laws, predjudiceness and tough times. All they had to depend upon was their faith in God and their ability to work hard. Rosetta was born prematurely in 1947 and was not expected to live, but God had other plans and a purpose for her life. At age ten Rosetta and her siblings, were forced to worked alongside their parents in the fields, planting and harvesting cotton and tobacco. Rosetta’s God-fearing parents demanded that she and her siblings take advantage of the education that was available to them; and each one enjoyed successful lives and careers after leaving South Carolina and moving to New York City and Connecticut and New Jersey. Rosetta graduated from high school in Greeleyville South Carolina in 1965. After moving to New York City, she attended Hunter Secretarial School and later studied Early Childhood Development at Lehman College in Bronx, New York. She has enjoyed a successful career of Federal Government service working for the United States District Court and the Veteran’s Administration. Rosetta’s passion and calling is studying God’s word and teaching young children. Rosetta has been teaching the Bible to children and adults for over forty years. Rosetta is currently teaching in the Children’s Ministry Department at Church of the Revelation in Bronx, New York, and serves as leader of the Intercessory Prayer Ministry.

Wounded Writers Ask: Am I Doing it Write? by S. Rebecca Leigh Pdf

This book addresses (and aims to dismantle) writer woundedness, a state of being that prevents students from trusting themselves as capable of writing something they can feel good about. Wounded Writers Ask: Am I Doing it Write? invites students to begin a new writing history through a collection of 48 free-writes that explore list writing, aesthetic writing, word craft, and writing that delves into personal life stories. These free-writes are invitations to develop a lead or improve a story title, to discover a character’s name or replace one word for another that is more vivid, to locate a story idea or revise a story’s focus. More than this, Wounded Writers Ask: Am I Doing it Write? emphasizes creative consciousness over correctness, where writing is a vehicle for exploring identity and (re)claiming voice across multiple grade levels. This book is for the wounded student writer as much as it is for the wounded classroom teacher as writer, who may feel burdened by his/her own writing history such that he/she struggles with where or how to start. For each free-write, Leigh offers Before Writing, During Writing, and After Writing suggestions with samples of student writing to guide teachers into writing engagements with their students that break down walls and open up new vistas.

Curse of the Boggin (The Library Book 1) by D. J. MacHale Pdf

Leave the lights on for this first book in a new thriller series! The author of the #1 New York Times bestseller Pendragon invites you to enter The Library, where the stories you can’t finish just might finish you. There’s a place beyond this world where spirits tell their tales—stories that ended too soon, or don’t end at all. It’s a place for unexplainable things: mysteries without solutions. Ghosts. Boogeymen. They all have a story. Marcus and his friends have found the key to unlock the Library. And they need to use it, because, clearly, something is up. Some strange guy in a bathrobe haunts them; fires rage and flare out in an instant; a creepy old lady shows up at Marcus’s house. . . . At first Marcus thinks he’s going nuts, until the terror gets real. The Library may hold some answers, but if there’s an unfinished mystery, the three friends will have to complete the story . . . any way they possibly can. “I’m not sure anyone does suspense quite like D. J. MacHale.” —James Dashner, New York Times bestselling author of the Maze Runner series

From Where I Sit . . . by Eva Fischer-Dixon Pdf

Charlotte (Lotte) Coleman never thinks much about religion or faith in God, yet she hopes for a great future. She believes that she does not need to pray for things that she can accomplish herself. Her outlook dramatically changes when a car accident sends her and her fianc, Craig, to the hospital. While Craig quickly recovers, Lottes injuries are devastating and leave her unable to see. Craig does the unthinkable and leaves Lotte to face her future without him. During Lottes second hospitalization, she receives a visit from a priest, Father Gabriel, who tells her that she must regain hope and faith in God to succeed in life. Upon his suggestion, Lotte and her family depart on a pilgrimage to Ftima, Portugal. There, while Lotte crawls toward the shrine on her elbows and hands, a man talks to her about his own pilgrimage and prays with her for miracles that he believes could happen. Lotte becomes a believer in God and resigns to her faith, but miracles begin to happen when they land in Geneva to wait for a transfer flight. A doctor from the Geneva Casablanca Institute approaches Lotte with an offer that was too hard to refuse. Lotte believes that it is the beginning of what the strange man and what Father Gabriel were talking about, so she agrees. In Gstaad, Switzerland, she falls in love with two men, Roman, a man in his early sixties, and his right-hand man, Carlos, about Lottes age. Once again, Lotte arrives at a crossroad in her life and she must choose carefully and wisely. Lotte is only certain of one thing, her unshakeable faith in God, and she hopes that she has chosen the right man to live with for the rest of her life.
