Standards for Accreditation of Master's Programs in Library & Information Studies by American Library Association. Committee on Accreditation,American Library Association. Office for Accreditation Pdf

These standards for the accreditation of graduate programs of library and information studies leading to a master's degree are a result of review and revision of the "Standards for Accreditation 1972." Six areas are addressed: (1) Mission, Goals and Objectives; (2) Curriculum; (3) Faculty; (4) Students; (5) Administration and Financial Support; and (6) Physical Resources and Facilities. An afterword presents an abridged version of the commentary used during the revision process in order to enhance understanding of the scope and focus of the standards and to define key terms and phrases. The following are listed as important issues at the time of the revision (1989-1992): action orientation; definition of the field; discrimination; distance education; diversity; excellence; future focus; globalization; innovation; interaction with other fields of study and other campus units; management; multiple degree programs; ongoing evaluation processes; philosophy, principles, and ethics; research; specialization; technology; and users. Rubin’s book has served as the authoritative introductory text for generations of library and information science practitioners, with each new edition taking in its stride the myriad societal, technological, political, and economic changes affecting our users and institutions and transforming our discipline. Rubin teams up with his daughter, Rachel G. Rubin, a rising star in the library field in her own right, for the fifth edition. Library and Information Studies for Arctic Social Sciences and Humanities by Spencer Acadia,Marthe Tolnes Fjellestad Pdf

Library and Information Studies for Arctic Social Sciences and Humanities serves as a key interdisciplinary title that links the social sciences and humanities with current issues, trends, and projects in library, archival, and information sciences within shared Arctic frameworks and geographies. Including contributions from professionals and academics working across and on the Arctic, the book presents recent research, theoretical inquiry, and applied professional endeavours at academic and public libraries, as well as archives, museums, government institutions, and other organisations. Focusing on efforts that further Arctic knowledge and research, papers present local, regional, and institutional case studies to conceptually and empirically describe real-life research in which the authors are engaged. Topics covered include the complexities of developing and managing multilingual resources; working in geographically isolated areas; curating combinations of local, regional, national, and international content collections; and understanding historical and contemporary colonial-industrial influences in indigenous knowledge. Library and Information Studies for Arctic Social Sciences and Humanities will be essential reading for academics, researchers, and students working the fields of library, archival, and information or data science, as well as those working in the humanities and social sciences more generally. It should also be of great interest to librarians, archivists, curators, and information or data professionals around the globe.

USEFUL ABBREVIATIONS FOR LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE (NET / SET / PET and Competitive Examination) by DR. TUSHAR M. PATIL Pdf

What is an abbreviation? Abbreviations have a long history, created so that spelling out a whole word could be avoided. This might be done to save time and space, and also to provide secrecy. In both Greece and Rome the reduction of words to single letters was common. In Roman inscriptions, "Words were commonly abbreviated by using the initial letter or letters of words, and most inscriptions have at least one abbreviation". However, "some could have more than one meaning, depending on their context. An abbreviation, on the other hand, is also a way to shorten a phrase but with a slight difference. In general, abbreviations tend to shorten the word or phrase being referenced by literally shortening the word but not creating a new one. So for example, shortening the word “avenue” to “ave.” is an abbreviation rather than an acronym because “ave.” does not form a new enunciable word. Similarly, shortening the names of the months, such as “December” to “Dec.” is also an abbreviation because when reading “Dec.” out loud, you would just say the full term “December.”
