Symmetries and Overdetermined Systems of Partial Differential Equations by Michael Eastwood,Willard Miller Pdf
This three-week summer program considered the symmetries preserving various natural geometric structures. There are two parts to the proceedings. The articles in the first part are expository but all contain significant new material. The articles in the second part are concerned with original research. All articles were thoroughly refereed and the range of interrelated work ensures that this will be an extremely useful collection.
Complex and Differential Geometry by Wolfgang Ebeling,Klaus Hulek,Knut Smoczyk Pdf
This volume contains the Proceedings of the conference "Complex and Differential Geometry 2009", held at Leibniz Universität Hannover, September 14 - 18, 2009. It was the aim of this conference to bring specialists from differential geometry and (complex) algebraic geometry together and to discuss new developments in and the interaction between these fields. Correspondingly, the articles in this book cover a wide area of topics, ranging from topics in (classical) algebraic geometry through complex geometry, including (holomorphic) symplectic and poisson geometry, to differential geometry (with an emphasis on curvature flows) and topology.
Semiparallel Submanifolds in Space Forms by Ülo Lumiste Pdf
Quite simply, this book offers the most comprehensive survey to date of the theory of semiparallel submanifolds. It begins with the necessary background material, detailing symmetric and semisymmetric Riemannian manifolds, smooth manifolds in space forms, and parallel submanifolds. The book then introduces semiparallel submanifolds and gives some characterizations for their class as well as several subclasses. The coverage moves on to discuss the concept of main symmetric orbit and presents all known results concerning umbilic-like main symmetric orbits. With more than 40 published papers under his belt on the subject, Lumiste provides readers with the most authoritative treatment.
Geometry of Principal Sheaves by Efstathios Vassiliou Pdf
The book provides a detailed introduction to the theory of connections on principal sheaves in the framework of Abstract Differential Geometry (ADG). This is a new approach to differential geometry based on sheaf theoretic methods, without use of ordinary calculus. This point of view complies with the demand of contemporary physics to cope with non-smooth models of physical phenomena and spaces with singularities. Starting with a brief survey of the required sheaf theory and cohomology, the exposition then moves on to differential triads (the abstraction of smooth manifolds) and Lie sheaves of groups (the abstraction of Lie groups). Having laid the groundwork, the main part of the book is devoted to the theory of connections on principal sheaves, incorporating connections on vector and associated sheaves. Topics such as the moduli sheaf of connections, classification of principal sheaves, curvature, flat connections and flat sheaves, Chern-Weil theory, are also treated. The study brings to light fundamental notions and tools of the standard differential geometry which are susceptible of the present abstraction, and whose role remains unexploited in the classical context, because of the abundance of means therein. However, most of the latter are nonsensical in ADG.
Modern Differential Geometry in Gauge Theories by Anastasios Mallios Pdf
Original, well-written work of interest Presents for the first time (physical) field theories written in sheaf-theoretic language Contains a wealth of minutely detailed, rigorous computations, ususally absent from standard physical treatments Author's mastery of the subject and the rigorous treatment of this text make it invaluable
The theme of this text is the philosophy that any particle flow generates a particle dynamics, in a suitable geometrical framework. It covers topics that include: geometrical and physical vector fields; field lines; flows; stability of equilibrium points; potential systems and catastrophe geometry; field hypersurfaces; bifurcations; distribution orthogonal to a vector field; extrema with nonholonomic constraints; thermodynamic systems; energies; geometric dynamics induced by a vector field; magnetic fields around piecewise rectilinear electric circuits; geometric magnetic dynamics; and granular materials and their mechanical behaviour. The text should be useful for first-year graduate students in mathematics, mechanics, physics, engineering, biology, chemistry, and economics. It can also be addressed to professors and researchers whose work involves mathematics, mechanics, physics, engineering, biology, chemistry, and economics.
Quantized Partial Differential Equations by Agostino Prastaro Pdf
This book presents, for the first time, a systematic formulation ofthe geometric theory of noncommutative PDE''s which is suitable enoughto be used for a mathematical description of quantum dynamics andquantum field theory. A geometric theory of supersymmetric quantumPDE''s is also considered, in order to describe quantumsupergravity. Covariant and canonical quantizations of (super) PDE''sare shown to be founded on the geometric theory of PDE''s and toproduce quantum (super) PDE''s by means of functors from the categoryof commutative (super) PDE''s to the category of quantum (super)PDE''s. Global properties of solutions to (super) (commutative) PDE''sare obtained by means of their integral bordism groups.
Essays in Mathematics and its Applications by Themistocles M. Rassias,Panos M. Pardalos Pdf
This volume, dedicated to the eminent mathematician Vladimir Arnold, presents a collection of research and survey papers written on a large spectrum of theories and problems that have been studied or introduced by Arnold himself. Emphasis is given to topics relating to dynamical systems, stability of integrable systems, algebraic and differential topology, global analysis, singularity theory and classical mechanics. A number of applications of Arnold’s groundbreaking work are presented. This publication will assist graduate students and research mathematicians in acquiring an in-depth understanding and insight into a wide domain of research of an interdisciplinary nature.

Global Differential Geometry by Alfred Gray,Spain) International Congress on Differential Geometry (2000 Bilbao,Marisa Fernández,Joseph Albert Wolf,Joseph A. Wolf Pdf
Alfred Gray's work covered a great part of differential geometry. In September 2000, a remarkable International Congress on Differential Geometry was held in his memory in Bilbao, Spain. Mathematicians from all over the world, representing 24 countries, attended the event. This volume includes major contributions by well known mathematicians (T. Banchoff, S. Donaldson, H. Ferguson, M. Gromov, N. Hitchin, A. Huckleberry, O. Kowalski, V. Miquel, E. Musso, A. Ros, S. Salamon, L. Vanhecke, P. Wellin and J.A. Wolf), the interesting discussion from the round table moderated by J.-P. Bourguignon, and a carefully selected and refereed selection of the Short Communications presented at the Congress. This book represents the state of the art in modern differential geometry, with some general expositions of some of the more active areas: special Riemannian manifolds, Lie groups and homogeneous spaces, complex structures, symplectic manifolds, geometry of geodesic spheres and tubes and related problems, geometry of surfaces, and computer graphics in differential geometry.
This book expresses the full understanding of Weyl's formula for the volume of a tube, its roots and its implications. Historical notes and Mathematica drawings have been added to this revised second edition. From the reviews: "Will do much to make Weyl's tube formula more accessible to modern readers.... A high point is the presentation of estimates for the volumes of tubes in ambient Riemannian manifolds whose curvature is bounded above or below." --BULLETIN OF THE AMS
Quaternionic Structures in Mathematics and Physics by Stefano Marchiafava,Paolo Piccinni,Massimiliano Pontecorvo Pdf
During the last five years, after the first meeting on OC Quaternionic Structures in Mathematics and PhysicsOCO, interest in quaternionic geometry and its applications has continued to increase. Progress has been made in constructing new classes of manifolds with quaternionic structures (quaternionic Knhler, hyper-Knhler, hyper-complex, etc.), studying the differential geometry of special classes of such manifolds and their submanifolds, understanding relations between the quaternionic structure and other differential-geometric structures, and also in physical applications of quaternionic geometry. Some generalizations of classical quaternion-like structures (like HKT structures and hyper-Knhler manifolds with singularities) appeared naturally and were studied. Some of those results are published in this book. Contents: Hypercomplex Structures on Special Classes of Nilpotent and Solvable Lie Groups (M L Barberis); Twistor Quotients of HyperKnhler Manifolds (R Bielawski); Quaternionic Contact Structures (O Biquard); A New Construction of Homogeneous Quaternionic Manifolds and Related Geometric Structures (V Cortes); Quaternion Knhler Flat Manifolds (I G Dotti); A Canonical HyperKnhler Metric on the Total Space of a Cotangent Bundle (D Kaledin); Special Spinors and Contact Geometry (A Moroianu); Brane Solitons and Hypercomplex Structures (G Papadopoulos); Hypercomplex Geometry (H Pedersen); Examples of HyperKnhler Connections with Torsion (Y S Poon); A New Weight System on Chord Diagrams via HyperKnhler Geometry (J Sawon); Vanishing Theorems for Quaternionic Knhler Manifolds (U Semmelmann & G Weingart); Weakening Holonomy (A Swann); Special Knhler Geometry (A Van Proeyen); Singularities in HyperKnhler Geometry (M Verbitsky); and other papers. Readership: Researchers and graduate students in geometry, topology, mathematical physics and theoretical physics."
