New Technologies in Urology by Prokar Dasgupta,John M. Fitzpatrick,Roger Kirby,Inderbir S. Gill Pdf

Technology seems to be an integral part of modern living. Urologists have over the years embraced new technological advances for patient beneft. On some occasions, however, the initial enthusiasm in something new has failed to endure rigorous scientifc scrutiny. Thus, while being technological leaders, we urologists know better than most other surgical speci- ties that what is new is not necessarily good. This textbook is aimed at urologists and surgeons at all levels and has contributions from international experts. The topics vary from robotics to lasers to single port laparoscopy. The comprehensive chapters should be of equal interest to uro-oncologists and those involved in treating benign urological diseases. While the contents are meant to bring the reader up to date with technological advances, the authors have attempted to balance their enthusiasm with basic science, translational research, and clinical outcomes. It will be obvious that some of the s- jects mentioned here, such as nanotechnology, are still evolving, and it will be a while before they undergo clinical trials that establish their position in clinical medicine. We hope you enjoy reading this book as much as we have enjoyed creating it. This volume is an essential and comprehensive review of all aspects of minimally invasive urology. Specifically, the book evaluates minimally invasive approaches to all aspects of clinical urology. Unlike prior texts that focus on a specific technology or a specific disease, this unique reference provides a broad-based view of minimally invasive urology. As such, laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, endoscopic surgery, and single-site surgery are all reviewed within the context of renal cancer, renal reconstruction, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, female urology, transplant donor nephrectomy, stone disease, stricture disease, and benign prostatic hyperplasia. The text concludes with chapters on informed consent and cost, which are also quite relevant to the practicing urologist. Authored by a wide array of leaders in the field known for both their clinical prowess and commitment to education, Minimally Invasive Urology: An Essential Clinical Guide to Endourology, Laparoscopy, LESS and Robotics provides a critical resource for clinicians, surgeons, operating room technicians, operating room managers and hospital administration.

Intraoperative imaging techniques for robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy: where do we stand? by Daniela Fasanella Pdf

Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy is currently the gold standard treatment for localized selected cT1 and cT2 renal tumors. This narrative review aims to analyze the technologies employed in this procedure to increase the precision and accuracy of the surgeon, in order to obtain adequate oncological radicality, negative surgical margins, and good preservation of renal function. In this scenario, new technologies are developing, from three-dimensional reconstructions to artificial intelligence up to the new concept of metaverse.

Minimally Invasive Uro-Oncologic Surgery by Robert G. Moore,Jay T. Bishoff Pdf

The invention of laparoscopic urological techniques in the early 1990s was met with scepticism by urologists who demanded that the methods prove themselves when compared to established 'open' surgical procedures. However, the techniques were quickly shown as successful, and over time have gained acceptance through reproducible and durable outcomes. In this well-illustrated surgical text, an international team of urologic surgeons specializing in uro-oncology share the experience gained in effective and reproducible teaching techniques in the field, and present the pioneering knowledge that will enable others to learn more about this important, ground-breaking procedure.

Minimally Invasive Urological Procedures and Related Technological Developments--Series 2 by Bhaskar K Somani Pdf

We are in the modern era of innovations, technological developments and minimisation in the field of urology. While laparoscopy and robotic surgery have revolutionised pelvic and upper tract oncology, there is continuous evolution and increasing use of these in the field of benign conditions and paediatric urology. As lasers have changed endourology, new minimally invasive surgical techniques (MISTs) have given a new meaning to benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) surgery. Oncological developments for prostate cancer now include treatments such as robotic prostatectomy, brachytherapy, radiotherapy, cryotherapy and HIFU. Robotic partial nephrectomy and cryotherapy have changed the face of renal cancer. While robotic cystectomy is also gaining popularity for muscle-invasive bladder cancer, new concepts of En-bloc resection of bladder cancer are emerging and being increasingly adopted. MISTs for BPH include laser (Holmium, thulium and green light), water-based treatments (Rezum, Aquablation) and other minimally invasive procedures such as prostate artery embolisation (PAE), TIND and Urolift. There is increasing emphasis on the role of suction in endourological procedures, while the quest for better intrarenal pressure and temperature monitoring continues. The use of Thulium fibre laser (TFL), Moses technology and small disposable ureteroscopes all help in pushing the boundaries of ureteroscopy (URS) and percutaneous nephrolithotomy (PCNL) procedures. These new technological developments have led to improvements in patients' quality of life (QoL), shorter hospital stays and reductions in complication rates.
