2666 by Roberto Bolaño Pdf

A NATIONAL BOOK CRITICS CIRCLE AWARD WINNER THE POSTHUMOUS MASTERWORK FROM "ONE OF THE GREATEST AND MOST INFLUENTIAL MODERN WRITERS" (JAMES WOOD, THE NEW YORK TIMES BOOK REVIEW) Composed in the last years of Roberto Bolaño's life, 2666 was greeted across Europe and Latin America as his highest achievement, surpassing even his previous work in its strangeness, beauty, and scope. Its throng of unforgettable characters includes academics and convicts, an American sportswriter, an elusive German novelist, and a teenage student and her widowed, mentally unstable father. Their lives intersect in the urban sprawl of SantaTeresa—a fictional Juárez—on the U.S.-Mexico border, where hundreds of young factory workers, in the novel as in life, have disappeared.

A Haunting of Shadows by Kaiser Jamal Pdf

This novel is about a character whose disillusionment begins soon after he arrives into contemporary culture and finds it almost impossible to cope. He is at odds with a dark uninviting City in which he lives and his work which he does in the Tower. The Tower is my synonym for all that he believes controls society and politics. Throughout, he falls back to compare his life to the life he remembers as a child. Most of them are memories of childhood adventures full of warmth and longing but he also remembers difficult times with his father. As he ages he begins to dream of a return to the past but eventually accepts that there is no going back. There is no escape for him as he has become far too deeply meshed into the City and the Tower. It is a story of unresolved struggle and internal conflict and a journey that poses questions, each one throwing up far too many answers to do anything other than to confuse. There is a great deal of anger at historical injustices perpetrated around the world, all of which has been sanitized by modern historical writing. His life ends in failure but that is what he always expected. It is also an intense love story and his love for a woman with whom he had an affair for only 24 weeks. Its failure haunts him throughout his life and he becomes quite unable ever to love again. His frustration leads him into several unrewarding sexual encounters, real and imagined, some with graphic scenes and some that mean nothing at all. Behind all this is a character I have named the Custodian. He is a mentor and his conscience, often by his side, critical and unforgiving but I never make it clear if he is a real person. In essence it is an analysis of internal conflict of a man who ultimately realizes he has failed at everything, having struggled throughout to stop himself from tearing apart. It is unusual in literary style combing a touch of poetry within prose. It is haunting in the sense that it a mix of past and present, always simmering in a cauldron of confusion. Sepulchral in silence this tranquil home in which I turn from side to side end to end. No challenge to my thoughts or voices with demands no calls upon my love or pilfering of my time No hunger I feed or thirst I meet, through these rooms I walk lips unspeaking eyes unsmiling answered in full my call to be free.

Anna, Queen of Arendelle, has been tirelessly preparing for the Polar Night's Celebration that is held every year to welcome the time when the sun doesn't rise in the Polar Circle. Anna and Elsa join forces to determine what is going on. Together they recall Kristoff's terrifying tale about a princess who turned into a draugr—an undead creature that steals memories in an effort to make others forget the misdeeds it committed when it was alive. Is it possible that Kristoff inadvertently unearthed memories of a draugr, and thus unleashed the monster upon Arendelle? Anna and Elsa must uncover the real story behind the tale before everyone in Arendelle forgets who they are and is cast into darkness forever....

Frozen Shadows: The Black Dawn Wars by Kevin Kroschel Pdf

Nearly a year has passed since the evil creatures known as Shadowmists reappeared and attacked the city of Var, and Shenji's involvement was revealed to the world. Tolar, Vice Secretary of the proud nation of Ventra, has begun a campaign to tear down the Geni and remove them from power. Although the truth should be on their side, fear has driven public opinion of the Geni down a dark path, and even Jenia worries it may mean the end of the Geni Order itself. Sarah, Seven months into her training, is beginning to have doubts about the Order's future, as well as her own as the Shadowmists continue to attack cities at random, wiping out whole populations. As the Geni's attention is divided between their own future, and dealing with the Shadowmists, a new evil has emerged, and their connection with the Shadowmists, as well as their ancient origins could spell disaster for the entire world.

In the House of My Pilgrimage by Donald Sheehan Pdf

Don Sheehan's early life, plagued by his father's alcoholic violence, was at the same time blessed by the good stories this intelligent man read aloud to his children. In his teens, unhappy in school, Don joined a street gang and then the Army Reserves, where he found he had renounced violence. On his eighteenth birthday, happening upon his post library, he walked straight to a book of Japanese poems. It went, in turn, straight to his heart, for eight hours. He'd come home at last. The house of Don's pilgrimage encompasses a wide territory: spiritual, lyric, scholarly, usually all at once. At our best, what we can take from engaging these essays is a way of falling into the heart to embrace, suffer, and, in Christ, transfigure the world's "ruining oppositions." In doing so, we fulfill what St. Maximus the Confessor saw as our human calling: to unify the polarities embedded in God's creation and thus make, not only ourselves, but all Creation whole.

Frozen 2: Dangerous Secrets: The Story of Iduna and Agnarr by Mari Mancusi Pdf

Sixteen-year-old Iduna harbors a dark secret. On the surface, she is an Arendellian village girl, an aspiring inventor, and the best friend of Prince Agnarr, but she is also secretly Northuldra. Ever since the day the forest fell, Arendellians have despised and distrusted Northuldra with a vengeance. No matter that the Northuldra—along with some of Arendelle’s own—have been trapped in the Enchanted Forest behind an impenetrable wall of mist since the day of the battle. Iduna doesn’t know why the mist refuses to part, or why it descended to begin with. The only clear thing is that she must keep her identity from everyone, even Agnarr. Her life depends on it. Fortunately for her, Agnarr doesn’t know that Iduna is the Northuldra girl he saw seemingly flying on a gust of wind all those years ago, the day of the celebration turned disaster. The day Agnarr lost his father, the king. The day Agnarr himself almost died. What Agnarr does know is that Iduna is a true ally in the face of his royal responsibilities and the expectations of an overbearing council and a well-meaning regent who will rule in Agnarr’s place until he turns twenty-one and assumes the Arendellian throne. As Iduna and Agnarr grow ever closer, however, friendship is no longer enough. If only falling for each other didn’t mean risking their futures: Iduna’s as a hidden-in-plain-sight citizen of Arendelle, and Agnarr’s as imminent king. But for a chance at true love, the risk might be worth taking
