Writing this book has been a very fulfilling experience. The items you read will perhaps give you a reason to pause and reflect on different times in your past and things you have experienced. Reflections is the name of this book. I chose “reflections” for a specific reason. As you read this book, some items may give you reason to reflect back in time. Take your time as you read and think of times past. Life is a great teacher. At times, we need to look to our past to learn from our mistakes as well as the victories we have accomplished. We are never too old to learn, to listen before we speak, to forgive rather than judge, and to show compassion and understanding. As a wise man once told me, “You cannot go forward in life if you spend all your time looking back.” I will leave you with this thought, “Reflect, learn, and live life to the fullest.”

I started writing many years ago. At fi rst it was just mental therapy for me. My doctor, very great psychologist told me that if I wrote my feelings down on paper that it would help me feel better and cope with whats bothering me in my head. I suffered many horrors in my life and I needed a way cope and live a normal life. Well my life isnt exactly normal as you will read. And neither are some of my poems. The question for me to ask is anyones life really normal? I wanted my life to be written so that the future generations of my family will know about me. And will know of how I became the person that I ended up to be. By accident I realized that I could write poems of many kinds. A guarantee that you will laugh and sometimes cry and even learn from my poems. Of how to love, heal, cope, laugh, cry, live and get even through my poems. Many of my friends online around the world give me subjects to write about. To be their words for them to speak to others. To help, to Heal, to dream, reasons to live and reasons to want to pray. And reasons to not want to die. I thought to myself that if Im going to be a writer that I dont want to let one subject to be untouched. To speak out words that I feel need to be heard through my poems. I want my book to be of help to others for whatever needs they have. And I pray with my whole heart that you get something good out of what you are about to read. And whether you believe it or not you will fi nd in my book of something that you might need written in one or more of my poems. And the life story is to help you know that your life is better than you may have thought. In my poems there is something for everyone. And that means you. Most of the other characters in the book are fictional and the common Kashmiri epitomised by Yousuf remains dear to my heart. He is wise, God fearing, hardworking and humble to the core. I often wonder if men like him still exist and if there are, I sure hope their tribe grows. The book is divided into six chapters with each having an Article, Wisdom of Shepherds lesson and a Piece of Art which has taken me many years to finish. The work is done using the Pashmina Hair (Finest and the Purest) and vegetable dyes to create a colourful work using needles (which I learnt in this journey). This work has forced me to Disconnect and Hibernate for months together while I was travelling like a nomad. I am happy that I like what I have been able to produce. I have made some real connect with my inner self in this journey of exploration of Art and experimenting with a medium which has never ever been attempted before. I seek inspiration from some great Artists of the World and now when I see my work, my Opinion, that Art is the Final Expression becomes even stronger and there is nothing more to seek. I fervently hope this book brings about a change in the attitude of people towards their surroundings and each one of us embarks on a journey that takes us on the path we were meant to walk on.

There are many misconceptions and concerns regarding Islamic societies and how Muslim countries have failed to come up with their own localised solutions to socio-economic problems in dealing with poverty alleviation and societal development. This book explores why there is so much disconnect between spirituality and enterprise development in the world today, and how a part of the Islamic world, in fact located in Pakistan, can be part of the solution rather than being central to the problem. This book builds upon Ronnie Lessem and Alexander Schieffer’s theory of ‘integral dynamics’ which works through a fourfold rhythm of the GENE. Set against a mono-cultural perspective, the authors highlight the ever-increasing and deepening divide between Western and Islamic cultures. Through the course of the book, the authors use the transformational GENE (Grounding, Emergence, Navigation, Effect) rhythm developed by Lessem and Schieffer to take readers through the 4C (Call, Context, Co-creation and Contribution) process, articulated to CAREing-4-Society. They ground their call in Akhuwat’s community of Akhuwateers (donors, beneficiaries, borrowers, volunteers and replicators), to explore alternative models of spiritually based finance through an emerging SOUL-idarity paradigm. Furthermore, through these models and Akhuwat’s CARE (Community, Awareness, Research, Embodiment) process, they put forward that encouraging community activism, raising awareness around Islamic practices of Qard-e-Hasan, institutionalising their innovative research, and finally transforming and educating the community, will provide an alternative to microfinance for poverty alleviation. Showcasing an unconventional spiritual-financial solution, deeply immersed in spirituality and infused with local moral values and traditions, this book demonstrates how poverty can be alleviated in countries around the world, specifically, in developing Muslim countries.
