Flesh of the Orchid by James Hadley Chase Pdf

James Hadley Chase (Rene Brabazon Raymond) was born in London in 1906 and started his career as a bookseller. With the aid of a dictionary of American slang and reference books on the American underworld he wrote his first novel, NO ORCHIDS FOR MISS BLANDISH, over six weekends. The book achieved remarkable popularity and became one of the best-sold books of the decade. FLESH OF THE ORCHID is a wild, thrill-ride of a sequel to NO ORCHIDS. Taking up the story 22 years later, the central figure is once again a Blandish girl, but Carol Blandish is not the helpless victim that her mother was. Indeed, she is a volatile blend of simmering sexuality, strained innocence and hair-trigger cruelty. Her explosive outbursts of savage violence make her a force to be reckoned with. Escaping from a mental institute during a raging storm, and definitely off her meds, Carol Blandish is soon pursued by a seedy cast of characters who all want a piece of the Blandish fortune. The novel bristles with crazy plot twists, edge-of-the-seat suspense and intriguing low-life's who mix it up for an immensely enjoyable read.

Twelve Chinks and and a Woman by James Hadley Chase Pdf

"When a curvaceous, beautiful girl walks into your office, strips, and offers you a 6,000 retainer to help her out of the trouble she's in, it's hard to refuse. Especially it you're private eye Dave Fenner, the man who busted the notorious Blandish case. But by the time Dave had been beaten half to death and been forced to shoot his way out of a load of unhealthy situations, he realised that chivalry - even if it was paid for a hard cash - was no way to stay alive. Only one man could satisfy Glorie Leadler's craving for love and affection. And though this golden-haired bit of feminine dynamite could have had a dozen men at her feet for the asking, it was a solitary Asian who made her heart beat fast. When jealous rivals tore that midnight love from Glorie's arms, her over-heated emotions burst forth in a volcano of love-stricken vengeance that rocked Florida and left a mark on many men's souls."--goodreads.com.

Surviving by Henry Green Pdf

Edited by the author's grandson, the novelist Matthew Yorke, and with an Introduction by John Updike, this book is an excellent selection of Henry Green's uncollected writings. It includes a number of outstanding stories never previously published, written during the '20s and '30s ("Bees", "Saturday", "Excursion", and the remarkable "Mood" among them). It contains a highly entertaining account of Green's service in the London Fire Brigade during the War; a short play written in the 1950s; and a selection of his journalism, including revelatory articles about the craft of writing, a marvellous evocation of Venice, a description of falling in love, reviews which illuminate his literary enthusiasm and the entertaining interview with Terry Southern for the Paris Review. It is rounded off with a biographical memoir by Green's son, Sebastian Yorke. Fascinating and invaluable as an introduction to Green, Surviving casts new light on his work and illustrates the many facets of this exceptional writer, one of the two most important English novelists of his time.

Praise for GUNSHINE STATE: “Part heist novel, part revenge tale, Gunshine State is a searing action story in exotic locales populated by fascinating grifters and unsavory characters. Add this to your must read list.” —Eric Beetner, author of Criminal Economics and The Year I Died Seven Times “A tense, fast-moving, vividly-drawn thriller.” —Garry Disher, author of the Wyatt novels “A gritty slice of Down-Under noir, served lean and mean.” —Wallace Stroby, author of The Devil’s Share and Shoot the Woman First “A phenomenal, hard-as-nails thriller with more tight corners than a maze and a double cross around every one of them. I loved it.” —Timothy Hallinan, award-winning author of the Poke Rafferty and Junior Bender mysteries “A lean, mean, hard-boiled knockout.” —David Whish-Wilson, author of Line of Sight and Zero at the Bone “Gunshine State moves like a bullet. The prose is taught without sacrificing atmosphere, character or psychological depth. Brimming with evocative settings, sharp dialogue and vibrant characters, this novel firmly positions Nette as one of Australia’s leading writers of hard-boiled crime.” —Alex Hammond, author of The Unbroken Line and Blood Witness “Gunshine State is magnificent. Taut, tense-a tremendous thriller.” —Andrew Grant, author of False Positive and Run “Gunshine State is a breakneck ride from first page to last. A must for lovers of hard-boiled crime fiction.” —Emma Viskic, author of Resurrection Bay “This brutal, hard-boiled thriller comes at you like a furious street brawler and pins you to the wall with a white-knuckle plot and authentic characters. No Orchids for Miss Blandish by James Chase Pdf

A shocking tale of vile, ruthless gangsterism. British pulp novelist James Hadley Chase's bestseller that exploded into the world's headlines! The original controversial classic, fully unabridged and unexpurgated. No Orchids For Miss Blandish is a 1939 crime novel by the British writer James Hadley Chase. The novel was influenced by the American crime writer James M. Cain and the stories in the pulp magazine Black Mask. No Orchids for Miss Blandish provoked considerable controversy because of its explicit depiction of sexuality and violence. The novel was a great critical success and was included in the Le Monde's 100 Books of the Century. In 1942, the novel was adapted into a stage play which ran for over 200 performances at the Prince of Wales Theatre in London. In 1948, it was adapted into a British film No Orchids for Miss Blandish. The 1971 American film The Grissom Gang was also based on the novel. It was also the subject of a fairly well-known essay by George Orwell, Raffles and Miss Blandish, and parodied by Raymond Queneau in We Always Treat Women Too Well. The 1939 novel was extensively rewritten and rearranged by the author in 1962 because he thought the world of 1939 too distant for a new generation of readers.
