Nonlinear Autonomous Oscillations: Analytical Theory by Urabe Pdf

Nonlinear Autonomous Oscillations presents a self-contained and readable account for mathematicians, physicists, and engineers. This monograph is mainly concerned with the analytical theory of nonlinear autonomous oscillations, with the approach based mostly on the author’s work. After some introductory material, in Chapter 5 a moving orthogonal coordinate system along a closed orbit is introduced. In the next four chapters, stability theory and perturbation theory are systematically discussed for general autonomous systems by means of a moving coordinate system. In Chapter 10, the two-dimensional autonomous system is discussed in detail on the basis of results obtained in the preceding chapters. In Chapter 11, a numerical method for determining a periodic solution of the general nonlinear autonomous system is described. To illustrate this, the periodic solutions of the autonomous van der Pol equation for various values of the damping coefficient are computed. Chapter 12, which is based on the work of the author and Sibuya, discusses the center of higher dimension. Chapter 13 discusses a particular inverse problem connected with the period of periodic solutions of one interesting equation. There are, of course, many other topics of importance in the theory of nonlinear autonomous oscillations. These are, however, omitted in the present monograph because they are mainly topological rather than analytical and in order to keep the book from growing inordinately long.

Approximation Procedures in Nonlinear Oscillation Theory by Nikolai A. Bobylev,Yurii M. Burman,Sergey K. Korovin Pdf

The series is devoted to the publication of high-level monographs which cover the whole spectrum of current nonlinear analysis and applications in various fields, such as optimization, control theory, systems theory, mechanics, engineering, and other sciences. One of its main objectives is to make available to the professional community expositions of results and foundations of methods that play an important role in both the theory and applications of nonlinear analysis. Contributions which are on the borderline of nonlinear analysis and related fields and which stimulate further research at the crossroads of these areas are particularly welcome. Nonlinear And Parametric Phenomena: Theory And Applications In Radiophysical And Mechanical Systems by Vladimir Nikolov Damgov Pdf

The book comprises a broad panorama of phenomena occurring in four major classes of radiophysical and mechanical systems — linear, nonlinear, parametric, and nonlinear-parametric. An analytical technique for the broad circle of issues under consideration is developed. It is presented in a user-friendly form, allowing its further direct application in research practices.Analytical methods are presented for investigating modulation-parametric and nonlinear systems, oscillating systems with periodic and almost periodic time-dependent parameters, effects of adaptive self-organization in coupled resonance systems and oscillating systems under the action of external forces, nonlinear with respect to the coordinates of excited systems.Of an interdisciplinary nature, this volume can serve as a handbook for developing lecture courses such as Fundamentals of Nonlinear Dynamics and Theory of Nonlinear Oscillations, Theory of Nonlinear Circuits and Systems, Fundamentals of Radiophysics and Electronics, Theory of Signals and Theoretical Radiophysics, Theoretical Mechanics and Electrodynamics.

Physics of Biological Oscillators by Aneta Stefanovska,Peter V. E. McClintock Pdf

This book, based on a selection of invited presentations from a topical workshop, focusses on time-variable oscillations and their interactions. The problem is challenging, because the origin of the time variability is usually unknown. In mathematical terms, the oscillations are non-autonomous, reflecting the physics of open systems where the function of each oscillator is affected by its environment. Time-frequency analysis being essential, recent advances in this area, including wavelet phase coherence analysis and nonlinear mode decomposition, are discussed. Some applications to biology and physiology are described. Although the most important manifestation of time-variable oscillations is arguably in biology, they also crop up in, e.g. astrophysics, or for electrons on superfluid helium. The book brings together the research of the best international experts in seemingly very different disciplinary areas.

Bifurcation And Chaos In Nonsmooth Mechanical Systems by Jan Awrejcewicz,Claude-henri Lamarque Pdf

This book presents the theoretical frame for studying lumped nonsmooth dynamical systems: the mathematical methods are recalled, and adapted numerical methods are introduced (differential inclusions, maximal monotone operators, Filippov theory, Aizerman theory, etc.). Tools available for the analysis of classical smooth nonlinear dynamics (stability analysis, the Melnikov method, bifurcation scenarios, numerical integrators, solvers, etc.) are extended to the nonsmooth frame. Many models and applications arising from mechanical engineering, electrical circuits, material behavior and civil engineering are investigated to illustrate theoretical and computational developments.

Topological Methods for Ordinary Differential Equations by Patrick Fitzpatrick,Mario Martelli,Jean Mawhin,Roger Nussbaum Pdf

The volume contains the texts of four courses, given by the authors at a summer school that sought to present the state of the art in the growing field of topological methods in the theory of o.d.e. (in finite and infinitedimension), and to provide a forum for discussion of the wide variety of mathematical tools which are involved. The topics covered range from the extensions of the Lefschetz fixed point and the fixed point index on ANR's, to the theory of parity of one-parameter families of Fredholm operators, and from the theory of coincidence degree for mappings on Banach spaces to homotopy methods for continuation principles. CONTENTS: P. Fitzpatrick: The parity as an invariant for detecting bifurcation of the zeroes of one parameter families of nonlinear Fredholm maps.- M. Martelli: Continuation principles and boundary value problems.- J. Mawhin: Topological degree and boundary value problems for nonlinear differential equations.- R.D. Nussbaum: The fixed point index and fixed point theorems.
