Excerpt from Nonresistance, or the Spirit of Christianity Restored When gliding on with the smooth tide of popular opinion, all seemed to lend a smile - I knew not a foe. But smce the time has come which tries men's souls, as to whether they are really the servants of Christ, all turn against me, - lnsomuch, that it may well be said of me, as of Elijah of old: I am left alone, and they seek my life. Christian Non-Resistance, in All Its Important Bearings by Adin Ballou Pdf

Excerpt from Christian Non-Resistance, in All Its Important Bearings: Illustrated and Defended Here is a little book in illustration and defence of a very unpopular doctrine. The author believes it to be as ancient as Christianity, and as true as the New Testament. But it is a doctrine little un derstood and almost everywhere spoken against. He therefore entreats his readers to divest them Selves as much as possible of prejudice, and'patiently examine what he has here written. He' does not expect every one to be pleased with what he has presented in this volume, not even those who ap prove of it as a whole. But he desires friends and opposers to be candid, just and generous; to treat the work as they would have one of their own (on any important subject) treated. He wishes no per sonal strain of panegyric from. Those who may think well of his Treatise. Let all glory - be given to the Supreme Source of wisdom and goodness. On the other hand, he hopes that those who may think ill' of it will be manly enough not to condemn it merely on account of its authorship. Let it be ap proved or condemned solely on its own intrinsic merits or demerits. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Non-Resistance (Classic Reprint) by Charles Hudson Pdf

Excerpt from Non-Resistance The book, in the main, is written with marked ability, though it contains some things not worthy of the author's acknowledged talents. His divisions and subdivisions are a little too artificial and if the hand of J oab is not in the work, there is frequently paraded on his page an index or hand, pointing to some word or sentence, which we think in bad taste. But these are minor faults, on which we have no disposition to dwell. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Delphi Complete Works of William Godwin (Illustrated) by William Godwin Pdf

The father of Mary Shelley, William Godwin was a novelist and social philosopher, whose revolutionary works anticipated the English Romantic literary movement, advancing atheism, anarchism and personal freedom. Godwin’s idealistic liberalism was based on the principle of the absolute sovereignty and competence of reason to determine right choice. His masterpiece, ‘An Enquiry Concerning Political Justice’ rejects conventional government by demonstrating the corrupting evil and tyranny inherent in its power of manipulation. His famous novel ‘Caleb Williams’, an early mystery novel, attacks aristocratic privilege and promotes key concerns of the Enlightenment. Godwin featured prominently in the radical circles of London, writing prolifically in various genres throughout his life. The Varieties of Religious Experience by William James Pdf

Harvard psychologist and philosopher William James' The Varieties of Religious Experience: A Study in Human Nature explores the nature of religion and, in James' observation, its divorce from science when studied academically. After publication in 1902 it quickly became a canonical text of philosophy and psychology, remaining in print through the entire century. "Scientific theories are organically conditioned just as much as religious emotions are; and if we only knew the facts intimately enough, we should doubtless see 'the liver' determining the dicta of the sturdy atheist as decisively as it does those of the Methodist under conviction anxious about his soul. When it alters in one way the blood that percolates it, we get the Methodist, when in another way, we get the atheist form of mind."
