Not One, Not Even One by Nancy Christine Edwards Pdf

In 1978, Nancy Edwards left as a CUSO volunteer for Sierra Leone, where she spent three years working as a community health nurse and two years evaluating primary health care programs. Her stories of village life convey the ravages of tuberculosis; threats of witchcraft; and tragedies of deaths related to pregnancy, childbirth, and newborn tetanus. She celebrates local advocates for health improvements—mothers, traditional birth attendants, and village health committees. Acutely aware of her role as a cultural outsider, the author reveals how she learned about the power of ancestors and the women’s Secret Society among the Mende people. Four decades after her arrival in Sierra Leone, Edwards comes to grips with her stance on the cultural practice of female circumcision. She takes us behind-the-scenes, describing how her West African experiences shaped her life and research career. Though steeped in hardship, tension, and conflict, Not One, Not Even One is buffered by humour, heartened by breakthroughs and shifting perspectives, and propelled by fierce hopes for the future.

Paul's Letter to the Romans by Colin G. Kruse Pdf

Paul's Letter to the Romans may well be the most influential book in Christian history. In this Romans commentary Colin Kruse shows how Paul expounds the gospel against the background of God's sovereign action as creator, judge, and redeemer of the world. Valuable "additional notes" on important theological themes and difficult texts -- such as Paul's discussion of same-sex relationships, the salvation of "all Israel," and the woman Junia, who was "well known among the apostles" -- further connect Romans to contemporary issues. Throughout his commentary Kruse expertly guides readers through the plethora of interpretations of Romans, providing a reliable exposition of this foundational epistle.

Dying to Tell You by Michael Hunter Pdf

Jesus tells us that if one desires to be his disciple, they must "deny himself and take up his cross and follow me" (Mark 8:34). But what does it mean to take up your cross, and how can we do this? The apostle Paul said that he "desired to know nothing...except Jesus Christ and him crucified" (1 Corinthians 2:2) and elsewhere even claimed to "have been crucified with Christ" (Galatians 2:20). How can one join Paul and know Jesus in his Crucifixion? The answer is to take Jesus at his word. From the cross, Jesus spoke seven times. These sayings summarize the gospel and explain how we can know him in his Crucifixion. On the cross, Jesus was literally Dying to Tell You how his death fulfilled God's eternal plan for our redemption. Unlike other studies of the "last sayings" of Jesus from the cross, Dying to Tell You takes a new approach and views the sayings together as a whole, revealing how together they form the foundation to understanding the gospel of Jesus. Originally motivated to seek a resolution to the dilemma of which saying is the last (both Luke and John appear to report the last saying), Dying to Tell You establishes a new order for the sayings based on a detailed examination and integration of the four Crucifixion narratives contained in the Gospels. While each saying is individually examined, rather than handling them as isolated statements, Dying to Tell You demonstrates how these sayings comprise the final message of Jesus, his sermon on the cross. Along the way, Dying to Tell You also provides assurance that the Bible can be trusted and is a historically accurate resource; demonstrates that the cross is the centerpiece of redemptive history; and illustrates how Jesus and the Crucifixion serve to fulfill the scriptures and provide for the salvation of mankind. Dying to Tell You is nothing less than one disciple's spiritual awakening and quest to know "Jesus Christ and him crucified" through the sayings he made from the cross and gospel they proclaim.

One New Man by Jarvis Williams Pdf

In the Bible, Paul argues that sin has broken humanity’s relationship with God as well as his fellow man, and he recognizes Jesus as God’s provision for the universal problem of sin. Therefore, Christ’s death for our sin is God’s only solution to racial hostility and the only provision for racial reconciliation. Today, many Christians still allow cultural prejudices to shape their understanding of race instead of scripture. One New Man endeavors to help Christians understand what the gospel says about race and race relations by focusing on selected Pauline texts. Since many churches have either limited their ministry to those within their respective race or homogeneous unit (people within the same ethnic, social, cultural, linguistic, or class context), author Jarvis Williams aims to liberate individual Christians and churches from their bondage to racist ideologies, from a secular model of race relations, and from their disdain toward different races that arise from both the impact of their respective cultures and from the universal impact of sin. Endorsements "Finally. The church has waited too long for an exegetical excavation and application of the Bible's teaching about ethnicity, Christ, the cross, and our new humanity. Jarvis Williams serves us all by helping us to see more clearly the implications of Paul's theology of the cross and reconciliation. Heartily commended." Thabiti Anyabwile Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church of Grand Cayman "The Apostle Paul is clear: our vertical reconciliation with God occurs as he reconciles horizontally those who have been at enmity with one another, who then are reconciled together, as one new man, to God in Christ (Eph 2:14-18) . . . Jarvis Williams demonstrates in a clear and compelling way that racial reconciliation is no nice optional 'extra' to the substance and proclamation of the gospel but is at the heart of that message of the cross itself . . . the practical impact of this book is monumental." Bruce A. Ware Professor of Christian Theology, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary "Williams's book on racial reconciliation is an important contribution to a sadly neglected issue in our churches (and) is characterized by careful study of relevant biblical passages and suggestions for application. Particularly important . . . is the author's distinction between ethnic diversity and racial reconciliation. The church, he argues, must not be content with diversity; it must push forward to a biblically distinctive, Christ-centered and Spirit-led embrace of one another in love." Douglas J. Moo Blanchard Professor of New Testament, Wheaton College "One of the saddest realities of American church life is that too many of our congregations are racially and socially isolated. One of the most joyous realities of the contemporary American church is that God is calling out young leaders who are willing to seek to change this. Jarvis Williams is a brilliant, young New Testament scholar (with) a burning passion for churches that picture the gospel in their racial makeup and witness. Read this book and ask the Spirit to show you your place in helping the church model the 'one new man' of the gospel of Jesus Christ." Russell D. Moore Dean, School of Theology, and Senior Vice President for Academic Administration The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary

Kj3 Literal Translation New Testament by Anonim Pdf

This is what the King James Version was meant to be, an exact word-for-word translation of the Hebrew and Greek texts. This title indicates that this new Bible is an exact literal, word-for-word translation of the Masoretic Hebrew Text and the Greek Received Text (Textus Receptus), the main texts used by the Authorised/King James Version translators. Certainly you will want to know all the truths that God has written in the original Hebrew and Greek languages, for it is truth that has the power to set you free: "And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free" (John 8:32) The difference between the KJ3 Bible and all other English versions ever created in the past is this: This version contains all of God's words, as He wrote them. Note that God has commanded this several times. See Deuteronomy 4:2, 12:32, Proverbs 30:6, Revelation 22:18, 19. KJ3/LITV "You shall not add onto the Word I command you, neither shall you take away from it, to keep the commandments which I have commanded you." When a version adds words to the words that God breathed out or fails to translate what God has written, and hides from the reader what they have added or subtracted from God's word, they are deceiving the reader by in effect saying, "These are the words that God wrote," when the truth is that God did not write many of the words that they have put into their Bibles. This is especially grievous in the Bibles that use "Dynamic Equivalence" as their translation methodology. Basically, "Dynamic Equivalence" is storytelling or a short commentary of what God has breathed out to us. The alleged translator reads a passage of the Bible in its native language (Greek or Hebrew), perceives or interprets the meaning, and writes in his own words what the alleged translator believes the Bible is saying. There is no effort to translate each word of the Hebrew or Greek. This new KJ3 version is the version that lovers of God and His Word can safely use with the approval of God. You and every person will be judged by ALL of the words that God has written. Add to this, that God wrote in grammatical forms (nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, etc.) Our Lord Jesus was always careful to keep the grammar of the Old Testament words He quoted in the New Testament. No other Bible version has ever strictly given the reader these grammatical forms as God has written them. The worst mistranslations: "Lord" for the divine name ("I am Jehovah, that is my name,"). God's name is mistranslated more than 6,000 times. Every nation had their lords, but only Israel had Jehovah as their God. All other countries were "the nations." In the New Testament "Gentiles" is falsely put for the "nations." "Church" is a word God never wrote: instead he called the meeting place "the assembly" both in the New and Old Testament. "The children of Israel" never existed as such, for the word, for "sons" is badly translated as "children." In many versions this occurs more than 500 times. Dead is either an adjective ("dead ones") or a verb ("to die"), (e.g. "he has died"). Also ("put to death") is from this verb, and most often translated as "cause to die". Usually, with most translations which have the same verb twice, one of the verbs will be replaced with an adverb. Only by going back to the each and every word of the Hebrew and Greek manuscripts can we ever attempt to have the purest translation. This is what we have tried to do with the KJ3 Bible - Literal Translation of the Bible.

Perspectives on Arabic Linguistics XXVI by Reem Khamis-Dakwar,Karen Froud Pdf

This volume provides a unique collection of studies representing diversity and innovation in Arabic linguistics. The volume includes several groundbreaking papers authored by leaders in the field organized around key aspects of Arabic morphosyntax, semantics, phonology, and sociolinguistics, as well as language acquisition and neurolinguistics. Balancing depth and width of coverage, the volume integrates a variety of papers associated with inherent dialectal and diglossic variation, innovative questions, data, and approaches, as well as innovative reexaminations of existing theoretical frameworks, making a meaningful contribution to the understanding of Arabic linguistic structure and human language representation/processing throughout all papers. The volume is intended to highlight the potential contribution of Arabic linguistics and to endorse further contributions to the sparse knowledge of language representation and processing in Arabic to further develop our understanding of innate linguistic knowledge. It draws special attention to the potential contribution of studies of diversity in Arabic dialects and between the two language varieties of Arabic, for the broader study of human language.
