Another discovery from the vaults of Cox and Co., the old London bank which had forwarded the Deed Box of John H Watson to the author last year. The Dispatch Box contains all manner of illuminating documents about Mssrs. Holmes and Watson. Of particular interest are what the author refers to as The Affair of the Vatican Cameos, the Reigate Poisoning Case, and a document apparently written by the man Holmes himself called 'the fourth smartest man in London', John Clay.

Further Notes from the Dispatch Box of John H Watson MD by Hugh Ashton Pdf

The second box ("the dispatch-box") to be discovered in the vaults of Cox & Co. of Charing Cross has been the source of even more discoveries concerning the celebrated detective Sherlock Holmes. This collection includes a Foreword from consulting Sherlockian Dr. Philip C. Eyster, who writes, "I had only read a few pages of his initial story, when I knew that Mr. Ashton has not only the skill but also the deep-felt desire to faithfully add to the canon the same Sherlock as came from the pen of Author Conan Doyle over 100 years ago." Included in this volume are four tales, all referenced in the canonical originally published adventures: The Abernetty Horror. A bloody crime in a Welsh fishing village points to one seemingly obvious answer. Holmes brings his reasoning powers to bear on the parsley and butter to discover the true solution (mentioned in The Six Napoleons). The Finsbury House. "The shocking affair of the Dutch steamship Friesland, that so nearly cost us both our lives." (The Norwood Builder) The Curious Affair of the Archdeacon. Mentioned in passing at the beginning of the Red Circle, this case is more light-hearted than many of Holmes' adventures. An Account of the Victor Lynch Forgery. An account of an early case of Sherlock Holmes, related not by Watson, but by Inspector Lestrade, in the form of a letter to the good doctor, following the events at Meiringen. Mentioned in both Study in Scarlet and the Sussex Vampire. The stories in this volume are authorized by the Conan Doyle Estate

Two, To One, Be by Carrie Carlson Pdf

In 2009, a few inspired individuals took notice of the plight of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's former home 'Undershaw' in Hindhead, Surrey and determined that it was up to them to do something about it. Banding together, they found a way to create a window for spreading their passion and energy outwards to the world around them. In the years that have followed, that window has grown into a vast portal, through which thousands of devoted Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes fans from all over the world have gained (and seized) the opportunity to have a very tangible impact on the preservation of Doyle's legacy. For those involved, Undershaw is infinitely more than 'just a house'. The purpose of this book is to hold a proverbial hand lens to that deeper meaning in hopes of capturing some small part of the deep emotion it represents. In the pages that follow, you will find an eclectic collection of essays, original artwork, and photography created by supporters and ambassadors from a wide range of countries, all of which in some way address the same set of questions: What is it about Undershaw that has the power to drive such a wide range of people from all over the globe (most of whom have never met one another in person) to join hands in support of protecting something that for many is thousands of miles away in a foreign country? How has the campaign or the property itself touched the lives of those who have come into contact with it and what sorts of experiences have people had as a result? Our intention here is to create a kind of insightful snapshot of these things as both a form of reverent acknowledgement for the efforts that have been put forth thus far, as well as a source of inspiration for the future.

Chronicles of Sherlock Holmes by David B. Beckwith Pdf

James Innes Watson, the great-great-grandson of Dr. John H. Watson, has inherited all the manuscripts of his forebear. These include stories that, for whatever reason, Watson never came to publish. In this collection, "The Case of Ailsa Craig," Holmes is summoned by an old university friend to a bleak island off the coast of Scotland. A lighthouse keeper has disappeared in apparent supernatural circumstances. "The Amateur Cracksman," Scotland Yard approaches Holmes regarding a high society cracksman. It is only when Mycroft Holmes enters the investigation with a robbery of radio inventor Marconi that the case is solved. "Sherlock Holmes in Cumbria," Holmes and Watson travel to the English Lake District to solve a murder case on the mountains. A second murder on the peak of one of England's highest mountains, and then a theft from a family from Holmes's past make up this north-country case.

Those first three volumes were overwhelmingly received, and there were soon calls for additional collections. Since then, their popularity has only continued to grow. And now we present a new three-volume set. Like 2017's two-volume set, Eliminate the Impossible, and 2019's three-volume Whatever Remains . . . Must Be the Truth, "However Improbable . . . ." features tales of Holmes's encounters with seemingly impossible events - ghosts and hauntings and crimes and events that cannot have happened - but apparently did! The fifty-eight stories in these three companion volumes represent some of the finest new Holmesian storytelling to be found, and honor the man described by Watson as "the best and wisest . . . whom I have ever known." All royalties from this collection are being donated by the writers for the benefit of the preservation of Undershaw for special needs students, (formerly "Stepping Stones",) one of the former homes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. As of June 2022, these books, through the continuing efforts of the amazing contributors and the wonderful worldwide supporters, have raised over $100,000 for the school!

The Mystery Surrounding Watson's Lost Dispatch Box by Gary Lovisi Pdf

When young Joseph Adler enters a small Dorchester bookstore to sell a rare old copy of The Strand Magazine - within its pages is discovered what appears to be a sheet torn from the diary of Sherlock Holmes' friend, Doctor Watson. The implications are incredible. When Adler is found dead, it is up to bookstore owner Thomas Jones, joined by his young friend, Juan Marcano, to search for clues and solve the murder in the style of their hero, Sherlock Holmes. But the older man, nicknamed Viejo, by the cocky younger Juan, have taken on more than they can handle, as they deal with tough cops and tougher drug dealers to solve the case. The discovery of an old tin dispatch box that apparently belonged to Watson leads to a wild case full of mystery, murder and revenge. It is a rousing tale in the best tradition of the Great Detective with a new team of amateur sleuths, in a novel that captures the spirit of Doyle's classic Holmes stories in a modern setting.

A scientist who tortures apes in a mountain lab. A corpse in a locked study. A super-hacker called Black Swann. These send Sherlock Holmes from Switzerland to the English countryside – plunging him into an Orwellian world where tabloids, government and police have made a devil’s pact to hack the private lives of citizens. With animal and human rights threatened, Holmes moves to end the mad experiments of Professor Droon, find what killed Sylvia Swann, and save Inspector Lestrade from corrupt superiors. Quick and quirky as ever, Sherlock is fully recovered from the icy journey that carried him from 1914 to the present day. And in this fourth adventure he proves yet again the superiority of mind over megabytes.

The Reigate Poisoning Case: Concluded by Hugh Ashton Pdf

In the account of the adventure that I have edited and entitled The Reigate Poisoning Case, published by Inknbeans Press in the collection Notes from the Dispatch-Box of John H. Watson MD, there was no mention of any character named Mlle. Carere, nor of a subsequent resurrection of the victim, let alone a reappearance and marriage in New York. I had therefore assumed that Watson had confused two cases, and attached the name of the principal of one to the events of another. It turns out that I was mistaken. Watson was correct in all the details that he had originally supplied as hints mentioned in his earlier story of Dartmoor. As I was searching through the dispatch box, I discovered an envelope into which was tucked another notebook, somewhat similar to the one in which I had discovered the story of Madame Montpensier. This was the totally unexpected sequel to the story that I had first discovered-a sequel that overturned my previous assumptions. The notebook contained what was perhaps a final copy of the second part of the manuscript describing the adventure, to be sent to the publisher, but later withheld, almost certainly at the request of Sherlock Holmes, given the content. Certainly there are very few corrections and additions to be seen in the manuscript, and the style is as polished as any other production from the pen of John Watson. I therefore present to you the second part of The Reigate Poisoning Case, which in my opinion, brings to a satisfactory close-as far as the plot is concerned, through many dubious moral aspects remain-those parts of the case that raised doubts in my mind when I was acquainted only with the first part of the story. This adventure is set some six months after the first, as the mention in Hound would imply. For those who have yet to read the initial portion, Holmes discovered that Mme. Montpensier, who had previously married a Mr. Stevens, was currently in a marriage which had been contracted bigamously by her current husband, under the name of Colethorpe. This Colethorpe, as she knew him, had suborned one of the maids into collaborating with him in a complex scheme that would trick the unfortunate Mme. Montpensier into providing her daughter, Miss Annabel Stevens, with a fatal dose of poisoned cocoa. At the autopsy, conducted by the local doctor, Henry Clifford (a former student colleague of Watson's) together with Watson and a lecturer at Bart's Hospital (Professor Menzies), it was discovered that the death of the victim had indeed been caused by poison. Though circumstances initially pointed to Mme. Montpensier as the administrator of the poison, it was deduced by Holmes that she had acted unwittingly, and the true culprit was Colethorpe, acting through his catspaw in the form of a kitchen maid, whom he had cajoled into acting as his accomplice. Colethorpe was found guilty and hanged, and the maid sentenced to many years' imprisonment. Now includes a sneak peak at the upcoming The Death of Cardinal Tosca. Grateful acknowledgement to Conan Doyle Estate Ltd. for permission to use the Sherlock Holmes characters created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

That was the largest collection of new Holmes stories ever assembled, and originally planned to be a one-time event. But readers wanted more, and the contributors had more stories from Watson's Tin Dispatch Box, so the fun continued. Now, with the release of Parts XXXVII, XXXVIII, and XXXIX, the series has grown to over 800 new Holmes adventures by over 200 contributors from around with world. Since the beginning, all contributor royalties go to the Undershaw school for special needs children, located at one of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's former homes, and to date the project has raised over $110,000 for the school. This new collection of 59 adventures features Holmes and Watson carrying out their masterful investigations from the early days of their friendship in Baker Street to the post-War years during Holmes's retirement. Along the way, Our Heroes are involved in dozens of fascinating mysteries - some relating Untold Cases, sequels to Canonical adventures, and a number or others that progress along completely unexpected lines. Join us as we return to Baker Street and discover more authentic adventures of Sherlock Holmes, described by the estimable Dr. Watson as "the best and wisest . . . whom I have ever known."
