Notes on the Book of Exodus (Classic Reprint) by C. H. M. Pdf

Excerpt from Notes on the Book of Exodus IN manuscript and proof sheets, we have been travelling over a deeply-instructive and most interesting portion of the word of God the book OF exodus. Redemption by blood occupies a prominent place therein. It characterizes the book. God's many mercies to His redeemed, in the display of His power, the patience of His love, and the riches of His grace, flow from it. The great question of Israel's relationship to God is settled by the blood of the lamb. It changes their condition entirely. Israel within the blood-sprinkled door-posts was God's redeemed, blood-bought people. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Exodus by Richard Green Moulton Pdf

Excerpt from The Exodus: Edited, With an Introduction and Notes I have explained in the previous volume the purpose of this series of the Modern Reader's Bible the History of Israel as presented by themselves. I have also explained the mode by which I propose, without altering the order of the Scriptural paragraphs, to bring this Bible History into the form familiar to us in modern books: separating in type arrangement between narrative and such matter as a modern historian would express by notes and appendices, separating again between the main historic narrative and the incidents told with epic fulness, and dividing the whole into what appear to be its logical sections. Notes, Critical and Practical, on the Book of Exodus, Vol. 2 of 2 by George Bush Pdf

Excerpt from Notes, Critical and Practical, on the Book of Exodus, Vol. 2 of 2: Designed as a General Help to Biblical Reading and Instruction The form of government which prevailed among the descendants of Abraham, prior to the time of Moses, was the patriarchal. Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, governed their respective families in virtue of that paternal authority which was, in the early ages of the world, universally conceded to the fathers and heads of households. The families thus governed were the natural germs of tribes, every one of which obeyed its own prince (nan: nasi), who was originally the first born of the founder of the tribe, but in progress of time appears to have been elected. Ip proportion as the numbers of the tribes were argmented their heads or plriarclu became powerful chieftains, and under the title of princes, elders, and heads of tribes, answered very nearly to the MM: and mire of the Bedouin Arabs and other nomads races of modern times spread over the regions of the East. The Historic Exodus (Classic Reprint) by Olaf Alfred Toffteen Pdf

Excerpt from The Historic Exodus Scarcely two years have passed since I published, in this series, my Ancient Chronology, Part I. In that vol ume I treated biblical chronology solely on the basis of dates furnished by the Bible, taking them at their face value, and without any inquiry either into the age of the documents in which they Occurred, or into their historicity. I promised then that these questions would be taken up in a future volume, to be called side-lights on Biblical Chronology. This is that volume. It has been found advisable to confine it more closely to the Exodus than was originally purposed, and consequently the title has been changed, the more closely to fit the contents. Making Sense of the Divine Name in the Book of Exodus by Austin Surls Pdf

The obvious riddles and difficulties in Exod 3:13–15 and Exod 6:2–8 have attracted an overwhelming amount of attention and comment. These texts make important theological statements about the divine name YHWH and the contours of the divine character. From the enigmatic statements in Exod 3:13–15, most scholars reconstruct the original form of the name as “Yahweh,” which is thought to describe YHWH’s creative power or self-existence. Similarly, Exod 6:3 has become a classic proof-text for the Documentary Hypothesis and an indication of different aspects of God’s character as shown in history. Despite their seeming importance for “defining” the divine name, these texts are ancillary to and preparatory for the true revelation of the divine name in the book of Exodus. This book attempts to move beyond atomistic readings of individual texts and etymological studies of the divine name toward a holistic reading of the book of Exodus. Surls centers his argument around in-depth analyses of Exod 3:13–15, 6:2–8 and Exod 33:12–23 and 34:5–8. Consequently, the definitive proclamation of YHWH’s character is not given at the burning bush but in response to Moses’ later intercession (Exod 33:12–23). YHWH proclaimed his name in a formulaic manner that Israel could appropriate (Exod 34:6–7), and the Hebrew Bible quotes or alludes to this text in many genres. This demonstrates the centrality of Exod 34:6–7 to Old Testament Theology. The character of God cannot be discerned from an etymological analysis of the word yhwh but from a close study of YHWH’s deliberate ascriptions made progressively in the book of Exodus.
