Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy of Boron Compounds by Heinrich Nöth,Bernd Wrackmeyer Pdf

The revolutionary impetus of the NMR methods in organic chemistry has parallels in the field of boron chemistry. lIB NMR spectroscopy provided a basis for the elucida tion of structures and reactions of the boron hydrides. However, although many studies have been carried out with the higher boranes, carboranes, metalloboranes, etc. , and although certain patterns have emerged, the correlation between the observed chemical shift and the assigned structural unit is still not fully understood. Therefore, predictions in this area are still rather limited, and semiquantitative interpretations are not yet pos sible. Several years ago Eaton and Lipscomb sUpImarized the status in this field in their book "NMR Studies of Boron Hydrides and Related Compounds" and a plethora of new data has accumulated since then. The book also contained material on simple bo rane derivatives, but they were not discussed in any detail. On the other hand many systematic studies, both synthetic and spectroscopic, have been conducted on these simple boron materials in the last decade. Thus a large amount of NMR information is available, not only on lIB but also on 1 H, 1 3 C, and 14 N. However, this information is widely scattered in the literature, and often the data are not discussed at all. It see med appropriate, therefore, to collect these data and to present them in one volume.

High Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy by J. W. Emsley,J Feeney,L H Sutcliffe Pdf

High Resolution Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy, Volume 2 provides a comprehensive coverage of the theories and methods for analysis of high resolution spectra. The title also presents a discourse on other variables that affect the spectra. The text first details the correlations of 1H resonance spectral parameters with molecular structure, and then proceeds to tackling the 19F nuclear magnetic resonance studies. Next, the selection deals with the NMR spectra of nuclei other than hydrogen fluoride. The text also provides data sets, such as nuclear properties, T-values, and chemical shifts. The book will be of great use to scientists who utilize nuclear magnetic resonance in their work.

Boron-Nitrogen Compounds by Kurt Niedenzu,J.W. Dawson Pdf

Although the chemistry of boron is still relatively young, it is developing at a pace where even specific areas of research are difficult to compile into a monograph. Besides the boron hydrides, boron-nitrogen compounds are among the most fascinating derivatives of boron. Nitrogen compounds exist in a wide variety of molecular structures and display many interesting properties. The combination of nitrogen and boron, however, has some unusual features that are hard to match in any other combination of elements. This situation was first recognized by ALFRED STOCK and it seems proper to pay tribute to his outstanding work in the area of boron chemistry. One should realize that about forty years ago, STOCK and his coworkers had to develop completely new experimental techniq'\les and that no guidance for the interpreta tion of their rather unusual data had been advanced by theoretical chemists. In this monograph an attempt has been made to explore the general characteristics of structure and the principles involved in the preparation and reactions of boron-nitroge~ compounds. It was a somewhat difficult task to select that information which appears to be of the most interest to "inorganic and general chemistry" since the electronic relationship between a boron-nitrogen and a carbon-carbon grouping is reflected in the "organic" character of many of the reactions and compounds.

Magnetic Resonance by C. K. Coogan Pdf

TWENTY-FIVE years ago in Russia, Zavoisky made the first experimen tal observation of electron spin resonances; and a year later Purcell, Torrey and Pound at Harvard and Bloch, Hansen and Packard at Stanford ('The Harvard of the West') observed nuclear magnetic resonances for the first time. In both cases (ESR and NMR) the phenomena had been previously predicted, and Gorter - surely one of the most unlucky experimenters of our time - had made his noble attempts to detect magnetic resonances. Purcell et aZ. , having beaten their radar swords into scientific ploughshares, used a re 3 sonant coaxial cavity, filled the inductive part with 850 cm of paraffin, and produced a resonance with a signal-to-noise ratio of 20. They predicted that the sensitivity could be increased several hundred-fold and foresaw applications in determining magnetic mo ments, investigating spin-lattice coupling and measuring magnetic fields. Their letter reached the editor of Phys. Rev. on Christmas Eve 1945, and the basis of NMR in the solid state was laid. Bloch et aZ. , fortunately working independently, established the entirely different, crossed-coil approach to the observation of NMR in a water sample, which they doped with paramagnetic ions to reduce the relaxation times. They had laid the foundation of liquid-state NMR. Their letter to Phys. Rev. was received on 29 January 1946.

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance by William W. Paudler Pdf

Describes the use of NMR for structural and mechanistic studies in organic and inorganic chemistry and biochemistry. Theory is presented in semi-empirical fashion, and only a minimal mathematical approach applied. Describes the original NMR experiment done using the low resolution technique and advances to the modern Fourier transform technique. In addition to chemical shifts, coupling constants, and double resonance, this book covers magic angle and treats inorganic and biological systems. Presentations include appropriate examples and problems.

Multinuclear NMR by J. Mason Pdf

With the power and range of modern pulse spectrometers the compass of NMR spec troscopy is now very large for a single book-but we have undertaken this. Our book covers the Periodic Table as multinuclear spectrometers do, and introductory chapters are devoted to the essentials of the NMR experiment and its products. Primary products are chemical shifts (including anisotropies), spin-spin coupling constants, and relaxation times; the ultimate product is a knowledge of content and constitution, dynamic as well as static. Our province is chemical and biochemical rather than physical or technical; only passing reference is made to metallic solids or unstable species, or to practical NMR spectroscopy. Our aim is depth as well as breadth, to explain the fundamental processes, whether of nuclear magnetic shielding, spin-spin coupling, relaxation, or the multiple pulse sequences that have allowed the development of high-resolution studies of solids, multidimensional NMR spectroscopy, techniques for sensitivity enhancement, and so on. This book therefore combines the functions of advanced textbook and reference book. For reasonably comprehensive coverage in a single volume we have sum marized the information in tables and charts, and included all leading references.

NMR Spectroscopy by Harald Günther Pdf

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy is one of the most powerful and widely used techniques in chemical research for investigating structures and dynamics of molecules. Advanced methods can even be utilized for structure determinations of biopolymers, for example proteins or nucleic acids. NMR is also used in medicine for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The method is based on spectral lines of different atomic nuclei that are excited when a strong magnetic field and a radiofrequency transmitter are applied. The method is very sensitive to the features of molecular structure because also the neighboring atoms influence the signals from individual nuclei and this is important for determining the 3D-structure of molecules. This new edition of the popular classic has a clear style and a highly practical, mostly non-mathematical approach. Many examples are taken from organic and organometallic chemistry, making this book an invaluable guide to undergraduate and graduate students of organic chemistry, biochemistry, spectroscopy or physical chemistry, and to researchers using this well-established and extremely important technique. Problems and solutions are included.

Bonding in Inorganic Systems by Anonim Pdf

Evidence from nuclear magnetic resonance studies for pi -bonding between boron and nitrogen in the borazens is presented. Preliminary experiments, by infrared spectroscopy which indicate that a similar situation might exist between phosphorus (III) and nitrogen, in open chain compounds, are also reported. The energy barrier to rotation about the BN bond in dimethylaminophenylchloroborane is calculated (from four different observations on the N.M.R. spectra) as 18 plus or minus 2 kcals. Exploratory measurements on certain boron-oxygen compounds are also presented.
