O Death, where is Thy Sting? by Alexander Schmemann Pdf

In every century since the renaissance, English speakers have felt compelled to possess a translation written especially for their own time of this great epic poem, the earliest and most central literary text of Western culture. That need has been thoroughly met in our century by the distinguished poet and classicist Robert Fitzgerald, whose version of "The Iliad" does justice in every way to the fluent vigor and gravity of the Homeric original.

O' Death by Johnny Mays Pdf

In my lifetime I have suffered personally with the passing of many of my family members and friends. I know the grief which death brings. It hurts, and it takes time to discover closure if it ever comes. However, with that said, I firmly believe that by the comfort of the Holy Spirit and a study of the Bible we can find the understanding that will make sense of it all, and give us hope for those who have left this world, and us too when our time comes to go."O' Death, Where is Thy Sting," is an in-depth study of the origin of death and the end of death. I sincerely believe if you take the time to peruse my book and meditate on the more than one hundred passages from the Bible which I draw from in this thesis, you will discover a wealth of comfort and security. In my forty-five years of ministry, I have officiated over a score of funerals. I have stood at the graveside with many families, watching them and listening to them during these sad times. I have heard the usual clichés, and at the top of the list are;"Why did God let this happen?" I hope to give you some answers to this question and much more.Is Death natural? As a preacher of the Bible, I question, "What does the Bible say?" I believe the Bible teaches there is nothing natural about Death. It is without question in my mind unnatural. I admit the obvious, Death is in this world. However, I believe there is profound scriptural evidence proving Death, is never meant for those created in the image of God. In other words, it was not a part of our God's natural order for humanity. Yes, Death happens, and Death has real cause and effect. Still, I must insist, that from a standard point of view, Death is not natural. The power of Death is spiritual. Death has a beginning. Death is our enemy, and yes, Death can be defeated.

I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die by Sarah J. Robinson Pdf

A compassionate, shame-free guide for your darkest days “A one-of-a-kind book . . . to read for yourself or give to a struggling friend or loved one without the fear that depression and suicidal thoughts will be minimized, medicalized or over-spiritualized.”—Kay Warren, cofounder of Saddleback Church What happens when loving Jesus doesn’t cure you of depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts? You might be crushed by shame over your mental illness, only to be told by well-meaning Christians to “choose joy” and “pray more.” So you beg God to take away the pain, but nothing eases the ache inside. As darkness lingers and color drains from your world, you’re left wondering if God has abandoned you. You just want a way out. But there’s hope. In I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die, Sarah J. Robinson offers a healthy, practical, and shame-free guide for Christians struggling with mental illness. With unflinching honesty, Sarah shares her story of battling depression and fighting to stay alive despite toxic theology that made her afraid to seek help outside the church. Pairing her own story with scriptural insights, mental health research, and simple practices, Sarah helps you reconnect with the God who is present in our deepest anguish and discover that you are worth everything it takes to get better. Beautifully written and full of hard-won wisdom, I Love Jesus, But I Want to Die offers a path toward a rich, hope-filled life in Christ, even when healing doesn’t look like what you expect.

Hope to Die by Scott Hahn Pdf

As Catholics, we believe in the resurrection of the body. We profess it in our creed. We're taught that to bury and pray for the dead are corporal and spiritual works of mercy. We honor the dead in our Liturgy through the Rite of Christian burial. We do all of this, and more, because when Jesus Christ took on flesh for the salvation of our souls he also bestowed great dignity on our bodies. In Hope to Die: The Christian Meaning of Death and the Resurrection of the Body, Scott Hahn explores the significance of death and burial from a Catholic perspective. The promise of the bodily resurrection brings into focus the need for the dignified care of our bodies at the hour of death. Unpacking both Scripture and Catholic teaching, Hope to Die reminds us that we are destined for glorification on the last day. Our bodies have been made by a God who loves us. Even in death, those bodies point to the mystery of our salvation.

Seeing Blood and Water by Sebastian A. Carnazzo Pdf

One of the most significant features of the Fourth Gospel is its unique version of the crucifixion of Jesus (19:12-42). A full understanding of the central section of this scene, the depiction of Jesus' death and the details immediately surrounding (19:31-37), depends on the interpretation of the verse that recounts the piercing of his side and the flow of blood and water (19:34). Yet, there has never been a clear consensus as to the meaning of this verse. This difficulty is not insurmountable, as the solution becomes apparent when one lends an attentive ear to the voice of the narrator. The event described in verse 34 is explicitly declared by the narrator in verse 37 to be the fulfillment of a "Scripture passage" that says, "They shall look at him whom they have pierced." It is, therefore, to that Scripture, Zechariah 12:10, that the author directs his audience for the meaning of this occurrence, and it is then from the literary context of the Zechariah passage that we can come to understand better this Gospel's account of the death of Jesus.
