Oak Anthology of Blues Guitar: Delta Blues by Stefan Grossman Pdf

There are many intellectual curiosities about the blues. It has always seemed a phenomenon that the guitar styles that came out of the South during the twenties and thirties could be differentiated by their regional characteristics. On hearing a strange new artist, one can almost pinpoint his city of origin through his guitar technique. The Mississippi Delta produced a sound distinct from that of Texas. Atlanta had a very popular style that seems to have been confined to that city. The music of Louisiana has a weird voodoo texture, while the Carolinas produced another totally different sound. Music is quite a powerful tool. Words of explanation can never express the impact of a musical experience. I am going to attempt to teach the music of some great guitar bluesmen. It is not going to be isolated and picked apart, but presented with its historical value as well as personal and emotional value. Words will not be my tools for this venture; instead I will incorporate photographs and interview to describe these feelings.

North-west Passage by Leon Coates Pdf

The state of Texas has had a major presence in the Blues, from the earliest days of the recording era right on up to the present day. So many tremendous Blues musicians have hailed from Texas, i.e. Blind Lemon Jefferson, Lightnin' Hopkins, T-Bone Walker, Freddy King. This DVD focuses on the Country Blues guitarists who first defined the Texas Blues sound and who put Texas on the map as a prime location in Blues Country. In this DVD lesson you'll have an opportunity to learn from the music of the greatest of the early Country Blues singer/guitarists, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Texas sharecropper and songster Mance Lipscomb, the almost forgotten Otis Harris, ace lyricist Funny Papa Smith, the spectacular and under recorded Willie Reed, and the Post-War master Lil Son Jackson. This is powerful and challenging guitar music, and the technique building that will result from learning to play these songs will take your blues playing to a new level. A detailed tab/music booklet is included as a PDF file on the DVD. This includes all the lyrics to the songs as well as transcriptions of the guitar playing. The original old recordings of all the tunes is also included.

The American Blues Guitar by Rick Batey,Frank Explicit Pdf

If the story of the blues is the story of a people, then the voice behind the story belongs to the guitar. The American Blues Guitar: An Illustrated History looks at the instruments and the players, from the birth of the blues to the present day. A brief history of the blues is included. From Blind Lemon Jefferson's Martin to T-Bone Walker's Gibson archtop, and from B.B. King's ES 335 to cousin Albert's Flying-V, all the classic makes and models are documented here in detail, with superb photography, serial number data, and everything the diehard collector - and interested fan - needs to identify these great American heirlooms. You'll find Leo Fender's original patent, filed in April 1951, of the Telecaster guitar, and an analysis of what makes it one of the great instruments. Among the blues artists discussed is Texan Albert Collins and his Gibson humbucker. Expert commentary explains why the players chose the models they did, how their choice influenced their sound, and how those sounds can be recreated today. The American Blues Guitar: An Illustrated History is indispensable to the lover of the blues.

Contemporary Ragtime Guitar by Stefan Grossman Pdf

The same folk process that gave birth to the blues and ragtime guitar styles is at work today. In this book, Stefan Grossman shows what has been happening among today's innovative guitarists—and gives you a glimpse of where it all might lead. It begins with some original blues compositions, much in the spirit of his monumental Country Blues Guitar Series, then goes on to deal with the art of adapting fiddle tunes and classic piano rags to the guitar. It introduces you to a whole new range of tunings and chord positions, which are simply not to be found in any ordinary guitar instruction book. Songs and compositions by such outstanding modern guitarists as Dave Laibman, Eric Schoenberg, Eric Kaz, Marc Silber, and others make this book unique among today's guitar guides. Stefan Grossman is the author of numerous books on the blues guitar, including Country Blues Guitar, Delta Blues Guitar, and Ragtime Blues Guitarists, all published by Oak. He is also a guitarist's guitarist, veteran of concerts, personal appearances, and recording sessions in the U.S. and beyond.
