Object-Oriented Technology and Computing Systems Re-Engineering by H. S. M. Zedan,A Cau Pdf

This book delivers the latest developments in object technology and their impact in computing systems re-engineering. Object-oriented programming is here shown to provide support for constructing large scale systems that are cheaply built and with reusable components, adaptable to changing requirements and use efficient and cost-effective techniques.Internationally recognised authorities from Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, the UK and the USA here record their research and development work on the industrial techniques and structured object-oriented methodologies in forward and reverse engineering of computing systems. This book takes stock of progress of that work showing its promise and feasibility, and how its structured technology can overcome the limitations of forward engineering methods used in industry. Forward methods are focused in the domain of reverse engineering to implement a high level of specification for existing software. The book contains the selected, quintessential content of the first UK Colloquium on Object Technology and Systems Re-Engineering held at Oxford University in 1998. The conference was sponsored by British Telecom Laboratories, EMSI limited and the OOSP Specialised Group of The British Computer Society. Object Oriented Computer Systems Engineering by Derrick Morris,David Evans,Peter Green,Colin Theaker Pdf

This book addresses issues concerning the engineering of system prod ucts that make use of computing technology. These systems may be prod ucts in their own right, for example a computer, or they may be the computerised control systems inside larger products, such as factory automation systems, transportation systems and vehicles, and personal appliances such as portable telephones. In using the term engineering the authors have in mind a development process that operates in an integrated sequence of steps, employing defined techniques that have some scientific basis. Furthermore we expect the operation of the stages to be subject to controls and standards that result in a product fit for its intended purpose, both in the hands of its users and as a business venture. Thus the process must take account of a wide range of requirements relating to function, cost, size, reliabili ty and so on. It is more difficult to define the meaning of computing technology. These days this involves much more than computers and software. For example, many tasks that might be performed by software running in a general purpose computer can also be performed directly by the basic technology used to construct a computer, namely digital hardware. However, hardware need not always be digital; we live in an analogue world, hence analogue signals appear on the boundaries of our systems and it can sometimes be advantageous to allow them to penetrate further.

Object Oriented Technologies: Opportunities and Challenges by Gibson, Rick Pdf

The continual evolution of object oriented technologies creates both opportunities and challenges. However, despite the growing popularity of object oriented technology, there are numerous issues that have contributed to its inability to firmly entrench itself and take over for the older, proven technologies. Object oriented technology's image problem has created a highly difficult decision making process for corporations considering widespread adoption of these technologies. Object Oriented Technologies: Opportunities and Challenges addresses concerns, opportunities and technology trends in the application of object oriented technologies. The chapters of this book were selected to represent a variety of perspectives concerning the present and future of this broad sub-field of software development.

Successful Software Reengineering by Valenti, Salvatore Pdf

Software process reengineering has become highly visible over the past several years. Efforts are being undertaken by organizations of all types and sizes as they attempt to deal with the challenges of quality, complexity and competitiveness. As an emerging technology, the effectiveness and potential impact of process improvement efforts have been debated, but not fully tested or validated. At the very core of this technological evolution is the idea that the quality of a software product is highly dependent on the quality of the process used for its development. Successful Software Reengineering examines the most recent theories, models, approaches and processes involved with the concept of software improvement and reengineering.

Successful Evolution of Software Systems by Hongji Yang,Dr. Martin Ward Pdf

Annotation Explores the feasibility of using techniques such as program transformation and program abstraction to re-engineer and extend the life of an existing IT system. The authors (De Montfort University) outline a program transformation-based evolution workbench called FermaT, the architecture of the wide spectrum language (WSL), and a process for evolving object-oriented, real-time, and parallel systems. The final chapter presents six case studies that use FermaT and re- engineering assistant tools to evolve from source code to specifications or to new source code in a different language. Object Technology by David A. Taylor Pdf

"The first edition set a standard of excellence that has eluded all followers, and I have recommended it to my clients for years. The new edition is a gift to the field and should be required reading for all managers." - Adrian J. Bowles, Ph.D., Vice President Giga Information Group "One of the most readable introductions you will find. The new edition offers vital insights into the effective use of objects in business." - Chris Stone, President Object Management Group The first edition of "Object Technology: A Manager's Guide" is widely viewed as the classic introduction to this powerful computing concept. Object technology offers increased agility, significant time-to-market reduction, and the opportunity to exploit the potential of the World Wide Web by deploying globally distributed business systems. At a time when many of the world's largest companies are making the transition to object technology, David Taylor has updated his book to address the important issues facing the growth of object technology and to provide a glimpse into the future of this evolving paradigm. In updating this seminal work, David Taylor has retained the signature conciseness and, clarity of discussion that made the first edition a best-seller. "Object Technology: A Manager's Guide, Second Edition," covers the key terms, emerging concepts, and useful applications of objects. Managers, salespeople, engineers, software developers-anyone interested in understanding or implementing object technology-will find this a lucid introduction to the topic. Highlights of this new edition include: An explanation of how to use objects to create evolutionarysoftware that rapidly adapts to changing business conditions, eliminating the need for most new application development. An introduction to Java, and an explanation of how its useof message interfaces enables a new generation of portable, mix-and-match, Internet-enabled business objects. An update on the state of object databases and extended relationaldatabases, with guidelines for combining the two for optimal informationstorage. An introduction to the new generation of object engines andhow they combine storage and execution capabilities for maximumsoftware integration. 0201309947B09102001

Feature Interactions in Telecommunications and Software Systems VI by Muffy Calder,Evan Magill Pdf

Typically, telecommunications services are implemented in software. Feature interaction is the term used to describe interference between services or features; most attention is given to cases where the interference is undesirable, ie. there is an incompatibility. In telecommunications, control and data is distributed and on such a large scale that software development is by numerous disjoint teams; by its nature, therefore, this software experienced the feature interaction problem first. But, while the workshop focuses on communications services, the subject has relevance to any domain where separate software entities control a shared resource.
