Finding Vocal Artistry by Glenda Maurice Pdf

This book is about the sincere quest for profound artistry as a performing musician, and as a teacher of a profound art form. It is an attempt to define the indefinable. It is my personal attempt to make today's art world connect with insights, feelings, instincts, and simple truths about the Classical Arts that have somehow gotten lost over the years. We must inform our students, drill them, encourage them, and above all, insist that they perceive mastery of their craft as viable only if they use the craft in the diligent pursuit of artistry. Finding Vocal Artistry speaks to the level of talent and ability at which one is entitled to step into the role of creative and/or interpretive performer of a classical Art. It is a level where prodigious skill meets prescience. It is comprised of engaged intuition, tireless pursuit of skill and interpretive knowledge, and of the kind of humility that transcends self at all levels. It is born of skill that is developed to the point of astonishment, and the ability to use that skill with grace and absolute confidence in order to create something magical. It is called artistry. Artistry is not a thing it is a way of thinking. It takes time and exposure to the very highest levels of artistic achievement in order to develop that level of thinking about one's own work. You cannot work at it in the way one accomplishes vocal exercises or linguistic expertise. The truth about your artistry lies inside you. You don't create it you find it. And your path to that discovery can be pointed out in some concrete terms. That is my mission. (Glenda Maurice)

Michael Praetorius (1571-1621) was a musician, organist, and Kapellmeister. His three-volume Syntagma musicum (Musical Encyclopedia, 1614-1619) was the first comprehensive treatment of music in the German language. This publication is the first English translation of Volume II, Parts III-V, specifically on the organ, which Praetorius declares "a perfect (indeed one might also say 'most perfect') musical instrument ... which ... takes pride of place above all other musical instruments, most of which can be incorporated into this single instrument." This work includes "A precise description of ancient and modern organs, their manual and pedal keyboards, bellows, stoplists, and various kinds of stops, as well as how to tune regals and harpsichords easily and precisely; and what to consider when accepting a [newly built] organ, together with with an appended detailed table ... " This edition shows the German original on the left and the English translation on the facing right-hand pages.

How Sweet the Sound! by Robert Barron Shaw Jr. Pdf

The narrative chronicles the life of Robert Barron Shaw, Jr., a blind entrepreneur. The text is written as a dialogue with his grandchildren, Amanda, Justin, and Jeremy, who probe into their grandfather's history, which holds many ironies and twists of fate. He was just a boy from Memphis, TN, living with his parents and siblings, when one day he received a diagnosis that would change his life forever. At first, he shrouded himself in secrecy, fearing the repercussions of misguided judgments and stereotypes. As a result, he navigated through the world as though life proceeded as usual but nothing about his life was ordinary, by any stretch of the imagination! Through courage, force of will, and a steadfast commitment to personal accountability, Barry (as he is affectionately known to friends and family) redefined and transcended the limits of so-called "normalcy" to achieve unprecedented success in business and in life. Just as Barry has been guided by the example of his ancestors, he became a mentor to his grandchildren, young people in general, and virtually anyone who feels marginalized or beset by life's challenges. "Stand for something. Make the rules work for you ... or write your own set of rules." This is but one of Barry's maxims that have defined his story. How Sweet the Sound! My Journey Through a Sighted World is a page-turner that promises to have a lasting impact.
