On the Footprints of the Ghost Clinique by Serban Margineanu Pdf

ON THE FOOTPRINTS OF THE GHOST CLINIQUE is, above all, a social novel. It is constructed with the style of a crime novel, to facilitate the public access towards a more digestible literary type of fiction. The majority of the characters are marked by an immense social trauma. It is the tragedy of the genius student who couldn't finish his studies because of his terrifying poverty, the sufferance of an ordinary man who couldn't support his family with his own salary, and the dilemma of a young woman who decided to prostitute herself in order to survive. The secret and unlawful Clinique is the only possibility of some scientists to continue their medical researchers, using founds gathered in an illegal or fraudulent way.

This Open Access edited collection seeks to improve collaboration between criminal justice and welfare services in order to help prepare offenders for life after serving a prison sentence. It examines the potential tensions between criminal justice agencies and other organisations which are involved in the rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders, most notably those engaged in mental health care or third sector organisations. The Divided Self by R. Laing Pdf

First published in 1960, this watershed work aimed to make madness comprehensible, and in doing so revolutionized the way we perceive mental illness. Using case studies of patients he had worked with, psychiatrist R. D. Laing argued that psychosis is not a medical condition but an outcome of the 'divided self', or the tension between the two personas within us: one our authentic, private identity, and the other the false, 'sane' self that we present to the world.

Stroke by Charles P. Warlow,Martin S. Dennis,Jan van Gijn,Graeme J. Hankey,Peter A. G. Sandercock,John M. Bamford,Joanna M. Wardlaw Pdf

In the second edition of this successful book, the authors have again worked closely together as a team to produce a seamless and consistently styled account of the diagnosis and management of stroke. What is different about this book? As many of the excellent reviews of the first edition point out, it presents a unique approach to stroke, both from the uniformity and clarity of the style (achievable only by a team working very closely together) and the integrated clinical management that weaves together causation, presentation, diagnosis, management and rehabilitation. This book deliberately poses and answers many of the burning questions and controversies in stroke and achieves a rare combination of readability and broad coverage.

Conscious Mind, Sleeping Brain by J. Gackenbach,S. LaBarge Pdf

A conscious mind in a sleeping brain: the title of this book provides a vivid image of the phenomenon of lucid dreaming, in which dreamers are consciously aware that they are dreaming while they seem to be soundly asleep. Lucid dreamers could be said to be awake to their inner worlds while they are asleep to the external world. Of the many questions that this singular phenomenon may raise, two are foremost: What is consciousness? And what is sleep? Although we cannot pro vide complete answers to either question here, we can at least explain the sense in which we are using the two terms. We say lucid dreamers are conscious because their subjective reports and behavior indicate that they are explicitly aware of the fact that they are asleep and dreaming; in other words, they are reflectively conscious of themselves. We say lucid dreamers are asleep primarily because they are not in sensory contact with the external world, and also because research shows physiological signs of what is conventionally considered REM sleep. The evidence presented in this book-preliminary as it is-still ought to make it clear that lucid dreaming is an experiential and physiological reality. Whether we should consider it a paradoxical form of sleep or a paradoxical form of waking or something else entirely, it seems too early to tell.
