Can open systems benefit your organization? Should the move to open systems be a business strategy, a technology strategy, or both? What implementation approaches to open systems are most successful? Find the answers to these questions and more in Open Systems for Better Business: Something Ventured, Something Gained. The author not only provides an overview of open systems from a business perspective but also dispels myths prevalent in business today and offers practical suggestions on how to get started - without getting lost in technology. In addition, it presents candid accounts of the open systems experiences of several well-known companies - Home Depot, Honeywell, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, and Merck. Responsible Research for Better Business by László Zsolnai,Mike J. Thompson Pdf

This book gathers original, empirical and conceptual papers that address the complex challenges of conducting responsible research in the business and management professions. It includes contributions related to, and reflecting on, the vision of the Responsible Research in Business and Management (RRBM) network, which proposes that business can help provide a better world if it is informed by responsible research. The responsible research agenda requires new methods of scholarly assessment that include criteria for measuring impact, systemic solutions and practitioner relevance. Theories greatly influence business and management practices, and as the late Sumantra Ghoshal warned, bad management theories are destroying good management practices. The authors of this book believe that good management theories can help to create new and better business practices.

CIMOSA: Open System Architecture for CIM by ESPRIT Consortium AMICE Pdf

Enterprise operation efficiency is seriously constrained by the inability to provide the right information, in the right place, at the right time. In spite of significant advances in technology it is still difficult to access information used or produced by different applications due to the hardware and software incompatibilities of manufacturing and information processing equipment. But it is this information and operational knowledge which makes up most of the business value of the enterprise and which enables it to compete in the marketplace. Therefore, sufficient and timely information access is a prerequisite for its efficient use in the operation of enterprises. It is the aim of the ESPRIT project AMICE to make this knowledge base available enterprise-wide. During several ESPRIT contracts the project has developed and validated CIMOSA: Open System Architecture for CIM. The CIMOSA concepts provide operation structuring based on cooperating processes. Enterprise operations are represented in terms of functionality and dynamic behaviour (control flow). Information needed and produced, as well as resources and organisational aspects relevant in the course of the operation are modelled in the process model. However, the different aspects may be viewed separately for additional structuring and detailing during the enterprise engineering process.

Open Systems Dependability by Mario Tokoro Pdf

The book describes a fundamentally new approach to software dependability, considering a software system as an ever-changing system due to changes in service objectives, users’ requirements, standards and regulations, and to advances in technology. Such a system is viewed as an Open System since its functions, structures, and boundaries are constantly changing. Thus, the approach to dependability is called Open Systems Dependability. The DEOS technology realizes Open Systems Dependability. It puts more emphasis on stakeholders’ agreement and accountability achievement for business/service continuity than in elemental technologies.
