EMQs in Ophthalmology, Dermatology and ENT by Mukhtar Bizrah,Manaf Khatib Pdf

This unique text presents challenging questions covering common and important ophthalmology, dermatology and ENT topics. The comprehensive answers make it an all-in-one study and revision tool for busy students. These specialties are commonly misunderstood by medical students and clinical trainees, and are known to be areas in which valuable marks are frequently lost in written and clinical examinations. EMQs in Ophthalmology, Dermatology and ENT is ideal for medical students wanting to consolidate their knowledge. It is also highly recommended for general practitioners, core medical and core surgical trainees, including candidates for the MRCGP, MRCP and MRCS examinations. Junior ophthalmology, dermatology and ENT trainees, including candidates for the Duke-Elder Exam in Ophthalmology, will find the self-testing EMQ format crucial in exam preparations. From the Foreword by Professor Janice: The authors have done a great job of covering the very wide syllabuses for these subjects while at the same time making reading the book such a pleasurable learning experience. Junior doctors and medical students can use this book to give them a comprehensive, yet adequately detailed, insight into these specialties.

Women in Ophthalmology by Christina Y. Weng,Audina M. Berrocal Pdf

There are nearly 24,000 ophthalmologists in the United States, with 500 physicians newly entering the ophthalmology field each year and approximately half of those being women. Although women now represent approximately half of all ophthalmologists, gender disparities remain when it comes to certain subspecialties (e.g., surgical retina), leadership roles (e.g., department chairs), industry involvement (e.g., consultancy and advisory board positions), and even academic publications. There has been a recently heightened interest in female representation in this field which has manifested in several ways (e.g., conferences geared towards women in ophthalmology, non-peer-reviewed publications about women in ophthalmology, and mentorship programs specifically for women). This book is the first of its kind in procuring and disseminating information—pertaining to both career and life—in an organized, concrete, and enduring way. Women in Ophthalmology is a comprehensive collection of chapters primarily written by women in the field of ophthalmology. The book aims to guide others through milestones and challenges women may face during their careers, and shares sound insights into how to deal with unique issues both inside and outside the workplace. Topics that are widely applicable to all who work in ophthalmology are included, such as finding mentors, collaborating within industry, handling work-life balance, and seeking out leadership opportunities. Each chapter combines personal anecdotes with knowledge from leaders in the field which both men and women will find highly valuable.

Operative Technique in Neonates and Infants by Thomas A. Angerpointner Pdf

In conventional partial resection of parenchymatous organs significant bleeding is one of the main problems, especially in neonates and infants. The patients rapidly lose considerable amounts of their small blood volume. Laser light leads to photo thermal effects in tissue and causes coagulation, drying up, carbonization and evaporization, depending on the temperature. The neodymium Y AG laser emits nonvisible light in the near infrared with a wavelength of l. 0611m. This wavelength implies a relatively deep penetration into the tissue. This laser system, properly a coagulation laser, achieves its cutting effect by its high power density [9]. Because of thermal radiation in all directions, both sides of the section plane are coagulated as a positive side effect. Thus, in parenchymatous organs a combination of resection and sealing of the cut vessels and ducts, up to a limited diameter, is obtained. Laser Instruments We use a neodymium-YAG laser mediLas 2 (MBB-Medizintechnik, D-8012 Ottobrunn, Federal Republic of Germany), wavelength l. 0611m, maximal power output around 110 W (Fig. 1). Normally we prefer to work without tissue contact, Fig. l.
