Electronic Properties of Organic Conductors by Takehiko Mori Pdf

This book provides an easily understandable introduction to solid state physics for chemists and engineers. Band theory is introduced as an extension of molecular orbital theory, and its application to organic materials is described. Phenomena beyond band theory are treated in relation to magnetism and electron correlation, which are explained in terms of the valence bond theory and the Coulomb and exchange integrals. After the fundamental concepts of magnetism are outlined, the relation of correlation and superconductivity is described without assuming a knowledge of advanced physics. Molecular design of organic conductors and semiconductors is discussed from the standpoint of oxidation-reduction potentials, and after a brief survey of organic superconductors, various applications of organic semiconductor devices are described. This book will be useful not only for researchers but also for graduate students as a valuable reference.

Organic Field Effect Transistors by Ioannis Kymissis Pdf

Organic Field Effect Transistors presents the state of the art in organic field effect transistors (OFETs), with a particular focus on the materials and techniques useful for making integrated circuits. The monograph begins with some general background on organic semiconductors, discusses the types of organic semiconductor materials suitable for making field effect transistors, the fabrication processes used to make integrated Circuits, and appropriate methods for measurement and modeling. Organic Field Effect Transistors is written as a basic introduction to the subject for practitioners. It will also be of interest to researchers looking for references and techniques that are not part of their subject area or routine. A synthetic organic chemist, for example, who is interested in making OFETs may use the book more as a device design and characterization reference. A thin film processing electrical engineer, on the other hand, may be interested in the book to learn about what types of electron carrying organic semiconductors may be worth trying and learning more about organic semiconductor physics.

Investigating the Nucleation, Growth, and Energy Levels of Organic Semiconductors for High Performance Plastic Electronics by Ajay Virkar Pdf

This thesis details the significant progress made in improving the performance of organic transistors and the network conductivity of carbon nanotubes. The first section investigates organic semiconductor nucleation and growth on the most common dielectric surface used to fabricate organic thin film transistors. The nucleation and growth of the semiconductor was determined to be a critical factor affecting the device performance. Excellent dielectric modification layers, which promote desirable semiconductor growth leading to high conductivity were identified, and a technologically relevant deposition technique was developed to fabricate high quality dielectric modification layers over large areas. This may represent an important step towards the realization of large area organic circuity. In the final section, lessons learned from studying organic semiconductor nucleation and growth were utilized to improve the conductivity of carbon nanotube networks. Selective nucleation of materials at the junctions between nanotubes in the network significantly decreased the network's sheet resistance. The resulting networks may be promising candidates for transparent electrodes with a variety of optoelectronic applications.
