Our Church Covenant by Timothy A. Williams Pdf

The church covenant has always been a vital part to the congregational life of a Baptist church. It has been called the formal cause of the church. And it has had a long and significant role within congregational churches of various stripes. However, in recent years, the church covenant has been ignored. The consequences of this have been enormous. This book calls the church back to the idea of a church covenant, revealing its functional significance, biblical grounds, organizing structure, and practical impact in the life of the church.

Covenant: by Jane Fisler Hoffman Pdf

This book, in light of the fractures within the United Church of Christ (UCC), encourages the members of the UCC to have meaningful discussions about the word "covenant". It is the author's hope that her resource will bring people together around this one word and show that, even with a diversity of views, people have more things in common than not in common. It contains nine thought-provoking sessions that explore the concept of covenant as it relates to the Hebrew Testament; Jesus Christ; God; our UCC heritage; the wider UCC; autonomy; and more.

The Baptist Church Covenant by Marshall Davis Pdf

"The Baptist Church Covenant: Its History and Meaning" explores the origins, purpose and meaning of church covenants used by Baptist churches. Church covenants were the original Mission Statements and Vision Statements of Baptists, long before Starbucks or Ben & Jerry's ever thought about writing such documents. When Baptists began in the seventeenth century, they organized congregations using covenants. These were documents signed by the founding members of a church, describing their commitment to God and one another. Church covenants became widespread among Baptists in America. Mission Statements are again gaining popularity among churches. Most Baptist churches may not realize they do not have to start from scratch in defining its direction and purpose. They may already have such a statement, which they can build upon, written over a century and a half ago. Most Baptist churches were organized using the popular covenant written by John Newton Brown and published in his Baptist Church Manual in 1853. It can often be found as part of a church's statement of faith, constitution, or bylaws. It is sometimes found pasted in the back of old hymnals or hanging in frames on church walls. Covenants may be a forgotten part of a congregation's heritage. They can be recovered and used to ground a congregation in its past while giving direction for its future. In this book Marshall Davis traces the history of church covenants and their roots in the biblical concept of covenant. Then he explores the most popular church covenant in use today, uncovering its roots in scriptural principles. He examines the covenant phrase by phrase, showing how this historical document addresses the most important issues facing churches today.

By God, I Will by David Pawson Pdf

It must bewilder many Christians that teachers and preachers using the same Bible can come up with so many different interpretations and, more particularly, applications of God's Word. One of the main reasons for this confusion is their handling of the word 'covenant', which is so fundamental to scripture. The two key questions are: how many covenants has God made with human beings and how many of these apply to Christians today? Some say there is only one ('the covenant of grace') running right through scripture, though they might add a second ('a covenant of works') which applied only to Adam in Eden. Most think there are two (the 'old' and the 'new') corresponding to the Old and the New 'Testaments' (a synonym for 'covenant'). Others claim to have found seven (though they usually call them 'dispensations'). This author believes there are five which are basic to the story of our redemption - the Noahic, Abrahamic, Mosaic, Davidic and Messianic. Only one of these is 'old' and therefore obsolete; only one is 'new' but endorses the other three. With this insight we can 'rightly divide the word of truth' (2 Timothy 2:15; NIV has 'correctly handle'). See if you agree!

Covenant Theology by Phillip D. R. Griffiths Pdf

God has always dealt with his people through the covenant, yet covenant theology from a Baptist perspective is a teaching that is all too often neglected. Many Baptists don't know why they are Baptist. If questioned they are most likely to respond by alluding to the mode of baptism rather than its underlying theology. This book is easily accessible, providing the reader with a clear understanding of the historical Baptist position. The work points out the errors inherent in the Reformed paedobaptist paradigm, and seeks to show that the only covenant of grace is the new covenant in Christ.

Covenant and God's Purpose for the World by Thomas R. Schreiner Pdf

“Behold, my covenant is with you, and you shall be the father of a multitude of nations.” —Genesis 17:4 Throughout the Bible, God has related to his people through covenants. It is through these covenant relationships, which collectively serve as the foundation for God’s promise to bring redemption to his people, that we can understand the advancement of his kingdom. This book walks through six covenants from Genesis to Revelation, helping us grasp the overarching narrative of Scripture and see the salvation God has planned for us since the beginning of time—bolstering our faith in God and giving us hope for the future. Part of the Short Studies in Biblical Theology series.

Covenant and Community by Doug P. Baker Pdf

What if God's image is not the blueprint according to which God designed us but is rather the purpose for which he made us and the goal toward which he continues to shape his people? And what if we are not to be a pack of individual images of God but, rather, what if the many people in Christ's church are together meant to form a single image of our three-who-are-one God? What if the fulfillment of God's image was just as much a future hope for Adam and Eve as it is for us? And what if they and we will soon together experience life in a mutually self-giving relationship that mirrors and even participates in the community of the Trinity? How would that change our theology, our churches, our families, and our lives? What if our future hope is even greater than we ever realized?

The Book of Covenants by Brent Adkisson Pdf

The Book of Covenants is a fresh perspective on the story of redemption as found within the covers of the Christian Bible. God did not choose religion to accomplish His goals, but instead, He carried out His masterful plan of salvation through a series of covenants. Biblical covenants offer great insight into the nature, character, and faithfulness of Yahweh, the covenant-keeping God. These relational covenants give us assurance of Gods blessings and promises while establishing a clear path to eternal life in Jesus Christ. Knowing the terms of these covenants will help the believer live a life pleasing to God with peace and confidence through understanding their expectations of being in a covenant relationship with God.

Life of Spirit, Faith, and Love by Glenn Orgill Pdf

You are beginning to realize that your Christian life has become stale. Church, while good, does not seem to be hitting the mark. You pray and read your Bible. You try your best to be a good person and obey the commandments. You do all this as a good Christian should, but you feel empty. Where is God? You wonder, “Why doesn’t He answer my prayers?” Many Christians feel this way, and many of the ones who don’t feel this way, should. In Revelation 2:4 Jesus tells the Church of Ephesus: “you have left your first love”. How about you, have you left your first love? Would you like to return to Jesus, your first Love? Well, this book has something to say about that! It would be great if I could say to you, “just love Jesus more”, and that would solve your problems. I think you know that there is more to this story than that. We have a new Covenant with God through the shed blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ. Would you like to know what that Covenant is about? It is about a life of Faith in God. A life of Love, love of God first, and a love of others. It is a life lived with, of, and through God’s Holy Spirit who is within us. Do you want to know how to live this life? When you read this book you will find how God defines these terms: Faith, Love, and Spirit. Also you will discover the pattern of how God has provided His covenants, all pointing to our new covenant in Christ. You are being called to repent and to walk with God, a walk as He has created it to be! God is talking to you! Will you listen?

God's Covenant and Our Duty by Samuel Willard,C. Matthew McMahon Pdf

his book by Samuel Willard teaches Christians about God's condescension to us by way of His covenant, and in light of that, how we are to live before Him. Willard covers the basics of the Covenant of Redemption, Covenant or Works and Covenant of Grace, to more fully explain and teach the biblical mandate and obligation to perform our duty in God's covenant. Christians cannot just profess that Christ is Lord; their outward actions must demonstrate the reality of the Spirit's work in their daily lives. He covers what it means to "keep covenant" with God, what a covenant breaker is, how covenant mercies are applied to Christians, and how we are to use the covenant promises found in Scripture for our sanctification. In the second half of the work he applies the uses of this teaching to both adults and to the children of believers, and how each of them are obliged to keep covenant before God in specific ways. Also added to this work is a covenant renewal sermon called, "The Necessity of Sincerity in Renewing Our Covenant," which shows that it is not enough to go through the motions before God in living before Him, but to have a right heart in engaging with God through His covenant promises. This is an exemplary work of the highest caliber on Covenant Theology holding such a high practical aspect to the teaching, as well as the foundational biblical truths concerning Christ's work and merit on behalf of His people. This work is not a scan or facsimile, has been carefully transcribed by hand being made easy to read in modern English, and has an active table of contents for electronic versions.
