P.A.N.D.A.S. hope for healing by William Cook Pdf

What if we haven't been told everything about PANDAS/PANS? What if there is more? What if there was an alternative method to support complete and lasting recovery? PANDAS Hope for Healing is a practical tool to help you rescue your child from the diagnosis of PANDAS/PANS. Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep is a debilitating disorder that currently affects one out of two hundred children. It's a frightening diagnosis and condition that can literally change the life of a child and their parents overnight. We know because we lived this nightmare. The fear and uncertainty of searching for recovery is something we know well. We also know what it is like to suffer in silence. We are neither doctors nor healthcare providers. We are parents of a child diagnosed with PANDAS who fought for his recovery and, thankfully, won the battle. Our son completely recovered from PANDAS, and has lived PANDAS free for close to 10 years. This book is his true story of healing and the story of how we got here. It is a product of ten years of personal research, reading everything I could find, and asking more questions than I can count. It is part personal journal and part reference guide. I wrote it to help bring awareness and practical solutions to this condition that is affecting way too many children and to bring you hope. This book is meant to tell you our true story of real recovery, to help open your mind to alternative wellness, and to provide you with hope that PANDAS/PANS does not have to be permanent for you either if you give the body the tools to put this disorder, back in order. If you are like so many others and your child is still languishing and has not received recovery through the conventional medical route, I encourage you to read this book. This book is for you if you or someone you know is living with a child with PANDAS/PANS, you are ready to fight for your child's recovery, or you just need some encouragement and an infusion of hope. This is our true story of real recovery, renewal, and restoration. This is our story of PANDAS HOPE for HEALING.

The Comprehensive Physicians' Guide to the Management of PANS and PANDAS by Scott Antoine Pdf

An evidence-based guide for doctors diagnosing, testing, and treating children with PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep infections). In the early 1990s, a group of researchers at the National Institute of Mental Health began collecting data on children who had developed neuropsychiatric disorders (OCD and tics) following infections. They found evidence that antineuronal antibodies had developed in some of these children which attacked the basal ganglia region of the brain. MRI and PET scans in these children demonstrated inflammatory changes in the basal ganglia as well. In 1997, the researchers published the first article to describe this syndrome that they named PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorder Associated with Strep infections). In PANDAS, an autoimmune attack on the brain occurs following a Strep infection. PANS (Pediatric Acute-onset Neuropsychiatric Syndrome) is a broader term that also includes cases following exposure to other infections, toxins, and even stress. Clinicians treating children with PANS and PANDAS have found that antibiotics targeted at the offending organisms, steroids, and IVIG results in marked improvement and occasionally complete remission of the neuropsychiatric symptoms. Disturbing symptoms consistent with many DSM-5 psychiatric disorders manifest in patients with PANS and PANDAS—yet we know that there is a biologic basis for the changes in these children. As a result, these disorders require us, as physicians, to view mental illness in an entirely new way. Resistance to this change in paradigm has made PANS and PANDAS difficult for clinicians to diagnose, unbearable for parents to endure, and controversial for scholars to accept. As such, there is no recognized standard of care. We have written this work in an effort to change that. This is a textbook by physicians for physicians. It was written to bring back some of the art of medicine to physicians caring for a group of children and families who really need it. PANS and PANDAS are complex disorders that demand a rich, multifaceted response with novel treatment approaches. The material in this book is assembled from the peer-reviewed medical literature, in combination with over thirty years of clinical experience caring for the sickest patients, both in and out of the hospital. Here you will find conclusive evidence for the existence and pathophysiology of PANS and PANDAS, alongside testing and treatment interventions the author has successfully used in his own practice with hundreds of children. The book concludes with rich appendices including commonly used labs, doses of medications and supplements, a sample flare protocol, extensive support for parents, sample IVIG orders, and much more. We hope this resource allows you, the physician, to help these suffering families heal.

Saving Sammy by Beth Alison Maloney Pdf

The story of one mother’s fight against the medical establishment to prove the link between infection-triggered PANDAS and her son’s sudden-onset OCD and Tourette syndrome. The summer before entering sixth grade, Sammy, a bright and charming boy who lived on the coast of Maine, suddenly began to exhibit disturbing behavior. He walked and ate with his eyes shut, refused to bathe, burst into fits of rage, slithered against walls, and used his limbs instead of his hands to touch light switches, doorknobs, and faucets. Sammy’s mother, Beth, already coping with the overwhelming responsibility of raising three sons alone, watched helplessly as her middle child descended into madness. Sammy was soon diagnosed with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and later with Tourette syndrome. Unwilling to accept the doctors’ prognoses for lifelong mental illness and repeated hospitalizations, Beth fought to uncover what was causing this decline. Beth’s quest took her to the center of the medical community’s raging debate about whether OCD and Tourette syndrome can be caused by PANDAS (Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders Associated with Streptococcal Infections). With the battle lines firmly drawn, Beth searched until she found two cutting-edge doctors who answered that question with a definitive yes. Together, they cured Sammy. Five years later, he remains symptom free.

HEALING THE BLUE PLANET by BANE SINGH Pdf

What ails Mother Earth? The answer can be found in the propensities of Man, her most gifted, but alas, also her most prodigal son. The world today may look to be the oyster to modern Man, with his faculties of creativity, inventiveness and enterprise. But looks are deceptive. Man has harnessed science and technology and also the new science of economics to bring about unprecedented prosperity, growth and amenities of life. All this, however, has come at a grievous cost to nature Ð in the anthropogenic maladies that we, in our reckless quest for ÔprogressÕ and comfort, have inflicted on the mother planet. Climate change and global warming; rampant exploitation of non-renewable fossil fuels belching out greenhouse gases; retreating glaciers; growing water, air and noise pollution; ocean acidification; ozone depletion; dwindling forests; imperilled biodiversity; and the growing menace of e-waste Ð all are stark symptoms of the seemingly inexorable degradation that human activities have wrought on the once-pristine environment of this living planet. We do not seem to learn from the fearsome records of myriad disasters and the five great extinctions that had stricken the earth in the past; what is worse, we seem to be heading mindlessly toward our collective doom of a sixth extinction, this time threatening to be caused by human-induced climate change. Time is running out, but all is still not lost. Initiatives have already been launched by conscientious world bodies, conferences and protocols to fight the hydra-headed monster of environmental pollution. What is needed is a broad-based general will Ð an Ôinformed consentÕ by us the conscious earthlings Ð to heal our beloved blue planet. The symptoms, the diagnostics and the line of cure, are all presented in this volume of highly readable and comprehensive analysis by an ecologist who has embraced ÔSave the EarthÕ as his mission in life.
