Parsifal Kontainer by Alexander Kluge,Tristan Marquardt Pdf

Two modern renaissance men pay homage to the medieval tale of Parsifal From Wolfram von Eschenbach's epic of chivalry to Richard Wagner's opera, from the knight as fool to the fool as savior, the story of Parsifal has struck deep chords with artists over the centuries. In this collaboration, Georg Baselitz's studies for a 2018 production of Parsifalat the Munich State Opera (2018) are paired with Alexander Kluge's responses to Baselitz's drawings, through stories in which he filters out individual elements from Eschenbach's epic, such as Parsifal's native wit or the figure of the Knight of the Cheerful Countenance. The result is an ongoing communication conducted over long periods of time: aspects of the Middle Ages can be found in the present. The volume concludes with Tristan Marquardt's text "Excerpts from a Parsifal Lexicon," which shows how far our contemporary language has diverged from Eschenbach's in terms of meaning and sound.

Women in Concrete Poetry 1959-1979 by Alex Balgiu Pdf

A massive, groundbreaking, international anthology of concrete poetry by women, from Mira Schendel to Susan Howe This expansive volume is the first collection of concrete poetry by women, with artists and poets from the US, Latin America, Europe and Japan, whose work departs from more programmatic approaches to the genre. Their word-image compositions are unified by an experimental impetus and a radical questioning of the transparency of the word and its traditional arrangement on the page. Owing, perhaps, to the fact that concrete poetry's attempt to revolutionize poetry foregrounded the male-dominated channels in which it circulated, some of the women in this volume--Ilse Garnier or Giulia Niccolai, for instance--were active in the movement's epicenters, yet failed to attain a visibility or ample representation in international anthologies such as Emmett Williams's Anthology of Concrete Poetry(1967) and Mary Ellen Solt's Concrete Poetry: A World View(1968). This anthology celebrates their legacy and recontextualizes word-image compositions by other figures working independently. It gathers work by over 40 writers and artists, including Lenora de Barros (Brazil), Mirella Bentivoglio (Italy), Amanda Berenguer (Uruguay), Suzanne Bernard (France), Tomaso Binga (Italy), Blanca Calparsoro (Spain), Paula Claire (UK), Betty Danon (Turkey), Mirtha Dermisache (Argentina), Ilse Garnier (France), Anna Bella Geiger (Brazil), Bohumila Grögerová (Czech Republic), Ana Hatherly (Portugal), Susan Howe (USA), Tamara Jankovic (Serbia), Annalies Klophaus (Germany), Barbara Kozlowska (Poland), Liliana Landi (Italy), Liliane Lijn (USA), Françoise Mairey (France), Giulia Niccolai (Italy), Jennifer Pike (UK), Giovanna Sandri (Italy), Mira Schendel (Brazil), Chima Sunada (Japan), Mary Ellen Solt (USA), Salette Tavares (Portugal), Colleen Thibaudeau (Canada), Rosmarie Waldrop (USA) and Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt (Germany).

NASA Apollo 11 - Man on the Moon by Steffen Knöll Pdf

Fifty years after Neil Armstrong, one of the Apollo 11 crew, placed his left foot on the surface of the moon for the first time in human history, our fascination with Earth?s satellite has lost none of its power. 'NASA Apollo 11: Man on the Moon' tracks the astronaut?s journey to the moon and documents the visual materials that the three crew members brought back with them. They were supplied with a Hasselblad 500EL Data Camera with Réseau plates and a Zeiss Biogon 60mm ?/5.6 lens with which they were to take photographs before and during the mission. The visual material that emerged from this can be seen in NASA?s online archive and is shown for the first time in its entirety in 'NASA Apollo 11: Man on the Moon'.0The 'Discovered' series is a cooperation between the HFBK /Hamburg University of Fine Arts, the HGB /Leipzig Academy of Fine Arts and the ABK /Stuttgart State Academy of Art and Design, which honours a selection of student projects with the opportunity to publish their work with Spector Books.

Georg Baselitz by Georg Baselitz Pdf

This anthology brings together over 25 pieces of writing by, and interviews with, the German painter, Georg Baselitz. Known for his rebellious approach to Abstract Expressionism, here Baselitz's discusses the impression his paintings convey, the act of painting, his biography and much more. The artist's own writings cover topics as varied as his first trip abroad to other painters that he considers to be great. The texts shift between these personal pieces - most of which have never been published before - to interviews with Baselitz and a variety of critics and art historians. These conversations present a different voice as he responds to careful and critical questions about his work. Many of the writings and interviews are available in English for the first time. A unique perspective on Georg Baselitz, this collection offers a personal insight on the artist and his relationship to painting.

Cinema Stories by Alexander Kluge Pdf

The thirty-eight tales of Cinema Stories combine fact and fiction, and they all revolve around movie-making. The book compresses a lifetime of feeling, thought, and practice: Kluge -- considered the father of New German Cinema -- is an inventive wellspring of narrative notions. "The power of his prose," as Small Press noted, "exudes the sort of pregnant richness one might find in the brief scenarios of unknown films." Cinema Stories is a treasure box of cinematic lore and movie magic by "Alexander Kluge, that most enlightened of writers" (W. G. Sebald). Alexander Kluge, born in Germany in 1932, is a world-famous author and filmmaker (his 23 films include Yesterday Girl, The Female Patriot, The Candidate), a lawyer, and a media magnate. He has won Germany\'s highest literary award, the Georg Büchner Prize.

I Seem to Live by Jonas Mekas Pdf

"I seem to live: the New York diaries, 1950-2011 is Jonas Mekas's key literary work. The first volume of this magnum opus, covering the period from 1950-1969, appears posthumously in the year of his death. It stands on an equal fooing with his cinematic oeuvre, which he initially developed together with his brother Adolfas after their arrival in New York. In 1954, the two brothers founded Film Culture magazine, and a weekly column for The Village Voice. It was in this period that his writing, films, and unflagging commitment to art began to establish him as a pioneer of American avant-garde cinema and the barometer of the New York art scene. An assemblage of Jonas's diaries from this exciting period, enriched with his own personal visual material, I seem to live: the New York diaries, vol. 1, 1950-1969 reads as a moving and subjectively condensed chronology of the postwar New York underground scene, which he shaped and defended through his writings"--Page 4 of cover
