Multiphase Flows with Droplets and Particles, Second Edition by Clayton T. Crowe,John D. Schwarzkopf,Martin Sommerfeld,Yutaka Tsuji Pdf

Since the publication of the first edition of Multiphase Flow with Droplets and Particles, there have been significant advances in science and engineering applications of multiphase fluid flow. Maintaining the pedagogical approach that made the first edition so popular, this second edition provides a background in this important area of fluid mechanics to those new to the field and a resource to those actively involved in the design and development of multiphase systems. See what’s new in the Second Edition: Chapter on the latest developments in carrier-phase turbulence Extended chapter on numerical modeling that includes new formulations for turbulence and Reynolds stress models Review of the fundamental equations and the validity of the traditional "two-fluid" approach Expanded exercises and a solutions manual A quick look at the table of contents supplies a snapshot of the breadth and depth of coverage found in this completely revised and updated text. Suitable for a first-year graduate (5th year) course as well as a reference for engineers and scientists, the book is clearly written and provides an essential presentation of key topics in the study of gas-particle and gas-droplet flows.

Fundamentals of Gas Particle Flow by G Rudinger Pdf

Fundamentals of Gas-Particle Flow is an edited, updated, and expanded version of a number of lectures presented on the “Gas-Solid Suspensions course organized by the von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics. Materials presented in this book are mostly analytical in nature, but some experimental techniques are included. The book focuses on relaxation processes, including the viscous drag of single particles, drag in gas-particles flow, gas-particle heat transfer, equilibrium, and frozen flow. It also discusses the dynamics of single particles, such as particles in an arbitrary flow, in a rotating gas, in a Prandtl-Meyer expansion, and in an oscillating flow. The remaining chapters of the book deal with the thermodynamics of gas-particle mixtures, steady flow through ducts, pressure waves, gas-particle jets, boundary layer, and momentum transfer. The experimental techniques included in this book present the powder feeders, the instrumentation on particle flow rate, velocity, concentration and temperature, and the measurement of the particle drag coefficient in a shock tube.

Solid-Liquid Two Phase Flow by Sümer M. Peker,Serife S. Helvaci Pdf

This book is an undertaking of a pioneering work of uniting three vast fields of interfacial phenomena, rheology and fluid mechanics within the framework of solid-liquid two phase flow. No wonder, much finer books will be written in the future as the visionary aims of many nations in combining molecular chemistry, biology, transport and interfacial phenomena for the fundamental understanding of processes and capabilities of new materials will be achieved. Solid-liquid systems where solid particles with a wide range of physical properties, sizes ranging from nano- to macro- scale and concentrations varying from very dilute to highly concentrated, are suspended in liquids of different rheological behavior flowing in various regimes are taken up in this book. Interactions among solid particles in molecular scale are extended to aggregations in the macro scale and related to settling, flow and rheological behavior of the suspensions in a coherent, sequential manner. The classical concept of solid particles is extended to include nanoparticles, colloids, microorganisms and cellular materials. The flow of these systems is investigated under pressure, electrical, magnetic and chemical driving forces in channels ranging from macro-scale pipes to micro channels. Complementary separation and mixing processes are also taken under consideration with micro- and macro-scale counterparts. - Up-to-date including emerging technologies - Coherent, sequential approach - Wide scope: microorganisms, nanoparticles, polymer solutions, minerals, wastewater sludge, etc - All flow conditions, settling and non-settling particles, non-Newtonian flow, etc - Processes accompanying conveying in channels, such as sedimentation, separation, mixing

Combustion of Two-Phase Reactive Media by L. P. Yarin,G. Hetsroni,A. Mosyak Pdf

Combustion of Two-Phase Reactive Media addresses the complex phenomena involved in the burning of solid and liquid fuels. In fact, the multiplicity of phenomena characteristic of combustion of two-phase media determine the contents. The three parts deal with: the dynamics of a single particle; combustion wave propagation in two-phase reactive media; and thermal regimes of combustion reactors. The book generalizes the results of numerous investigations into the ignition and combustion of solid particles, droplets and bubbles, combustion wave propagation in heterogeneous reactive media, the stability of combustion of two-phase media, as well as the thermal regimes of high-temperature combustion reactors. It merges findings from the authors’ investigations into problems of two-phase flows and material from graduate-level courses they teach at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Mathematical Modeling of Disperse Two-Phase Flows by Christophe Morel Pdf

This book develops the theoretical foundations of disperse two-phase flows, which are characterized by the existence of bubbles, droplets or solid particles finely dispersed in a carrier fluid, which can be a liquid or a gas. Chapters clarify many difficult subjects, including modeling of the interfacial area concentration. Basic knowledge of the subjects treated in this book is essential to practitioners of Computational Fluid Dynamics for two-phase flows in a variety of industrial and environmental settings. The author provides a complete derivation of the basic equations, followed by more advanced subjects like turbulence equations for the two phases (continuous and disperse) and multi-size particulate flow modeling. As well as theoretical material, readers will discover chapters concerned with closure relations and numerical issues. Many physical models are presented, covering key subjects including heat and mass transfers between phases, interfacial forces and fluid particles coalescence and breakup, amongst others. This book is highly suitable for students in the subject area, but may also be a useful reference text for more advanced scientists and engineers.

Two Phase Flows and Waves by Daniel D. Joseph,David G. Schaeffer Pdf

This IMA Volume in Mathematics and its Applications TWO PHASE FLOWS AND WAVES is based on the proceedings of a workshop which was an integral part of the 1988-89 IMA program on NONLINEAR WAVES. The workshop focussed on the development of waves in flowing composites. We thank the Coordinating Commit tee: James Glimm, Daniel Joseph, Barbara Keyfitz, Andrew Majda, Alan Newell, Peter Olver, David Sattinger and David Schaeffer for planning and implementing the stimulating year-long program. We especially thank the Workshop Organizers, Daniel D. Joseph and David G. Schaeffer for their efforts in bringing together many of the major figures in those research fields in which modelling of granular flows and suspensions is used. Avner Friedman Willard Miller, Jr. PREFACE This Workshop, held from January 3-10,1989 at IMA, focused on the properties of materials which consist of many small solid particles or grains. Let us distinguish the terms granular material and suspension. In the former, the material consists exclusively of solid particles interacting through direct contact with one another, either sustained frictional contacts in the case of slow shearing or collisions in the case of rapid shearing. In suspensions, also called two phase flow, the grains interact with one another primarily through the influence of a viscous fluid which occupies the interstitial space and participates in the flow. (As shown by the lecture of I. Vardoulakis (not included in this volume), the distinction between these two idealized cases is not always clear.
