Overcoming the Exploitation of Passion in Videogame Labor by Joshua Jackson Pdf

Overcoming the Exploitation of Passion in Videogame Labor: Playing with Passion examines the intersection of passion, precarity, and collocation to pinpoint where and how interventions can be made towards better working conditions. Jackson contends that videogames and passion are inextricably linked and explores this intrinsic link where passion is expected and valorized, be it in the context of play, work, or culture. Passion, Jackson argues, is the connective tissue that sews together the shared experiences that people all over the world will undertake through videogames, including winning close matches, experiencing new worlds, and forging new friendships. This book interrogates the outcomes of labor, videogames, and passion colliding – work and play become inextricably linked, and suddenly a ‘passion for games’ becomes an insistent and expected ‘passion for work.’ This, Jackson ultimately posits, leads to the current reality of much of the videogame production industry, where passion is used as a workplace policing tool and a way to push workers to periods of extended work, or crunch periods. Through theorizations regarding passion, bodies, assembly, and assemblage, this text wrestles with what can be done to manifest real change in the videogame industry. Scholars of media studies, technology, and labor studies will find this book of particular interest.

Mystics Yesterday and Today by Brigitta Beer Pdf

The Love That Connects Us All is the moving and honest story of author Brigitta Beer's exploration through the dark night of the soul. She validates her experience through the writings of mystics past and present, including Jesus, Rumi, John de Cross, Meister Eckhart, Hildegard of Bingen, Teresa of Avila, the Sufis, Dante, Dorothy Walters, Rilke and Caroline Myss. Beer describes the stages of her journey and her spiritual development, relating them to the four paths of Creation Spirituality. She also likens the experience to finding the philosopher's stone in her own heart. It is a journey of longing and unity that, in the end, can only be found through the love in her own heart. Beer shows us a mystical path that has no boundaries and can be a path for everyone-a path into the healing of your "self."

Framing History in East-Central Europe and Beyond by Ferdinand Kühnel,Nedžad Kuč,Marija Wakounig Pdf

During the 1970s todays Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research (Bundesministerium für Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung, BMBWF) supported the founding of the Center for Austrian Studies at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and the Austrian Chair at Stanford University in California. These foundings were the initial incentives for the worldwide `spreading' of similar institutions; currently, nine Centers for Austrian and Central European Studies exist in seven countries on three continents. The funding of the Ministry enables to connect senior scholars with young scholars, to help young PhD students, to participate in and to benefit from the scientific connection of experienced researchers, and to get in touch with the national scientific community by `sniffing scientific air', as the Austrians like to say. Furthermore, it aims to avoid prejudices, and to spread a better understanding and knowledge about Austria and Central Europe by promoting scientific exchange.

Summa Theologica (All Complete & Unabridged 3 Parts + Supplement & Appendix + interactive links and annotations) by Thomas Aquinas Pdf

This carefully crafted ebook: "Summa Theologica (All Complete & Unabridged 3 Parts + Supplement & Appendix + interactive links and annotations)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. This ebook is the best-known work of Thomas Aquinas (c.1225–1274). Although unfinished, the Summa is "one of the classics of the history of philosophy and one of the most influential works of Western literature." It is intended as an instructional guide for moderate theologians, and a compendium of all of the main theological teachings of the Catholic Church. It presents the reasoning for almost all points of Christian theology in the West. The Summa Theologica is divided into three parts, and each of these three parts contains numerous subdivisions. Part 1 deals primarily with God and comprises discussions of 119 questions concerning the existence and nature of God, the Creation, angels, the work of the six days of Creation, the essence and nature of man, and divine government. Part 2 deals with man and includes discussions of 303 questions concerning the purpose of man, habits, types of law, vices and virtues, prudence and justice, fortitude and temperance, graces, and the religious versus the secular life. Part 3 deals with Christ and comprises discussions of 90 questions concerning the Incarnation, the Sacraments, and the Resurrection. Some editions of the Summa Theologica include a Supplement comprising discussions of an additional 99 questions concerning a wide variety of loosely related issues such as excommunication, indulgences, confession, marriage, purgatory, and the relations of the saints toward the damned. Scholars believe that Rainaldo da Piperno, a friend of Aquinas, probably gathered the material in this supplement from a work that Aquinas had completed before he began working on the Summa Theologica. It seeks to describe the relationship between God and man and to explain how man’s reconciliation with the Divine is made possible at all through Christ. To this end, Aquinas cites proofs for the existence of God and outlines the activities and nature of God. Approximately one-half of the Summa Theologica then examines the nature and purpose of man. Finally, Aquinas devotes his attention to the nature of Christ and the role of the Sacraments in effecting a bridge between God and man. Within these broad topical boundaries, though, Aquinas examines the nature of God and man in exquisite detail. His examination includes questions of how angels act on bodies, the union of body and soul, the cause and remedies of anger, cursing, and the comparison of one sin with another. Aquinas is attempting to offer a truly universal and rational view of all existence. Thomas Aquinas, O.P. (1225 – 1274), also Thomas of Aquin or Aquino, was an Italian Dominican priest, and an immensely influential philosopher and theologian in the tradition of scholasticism, within which he is also known as the "Doctor Angelicus", "Doctor Communis", and "Doctor Universalis". He was the foremost classical proponent of natural theology, and the father of Thomism. His influence on Western thought is considerable, and much of modern philosophy was conceived in development or refutation of his ideas, particularly in the areas of ethics, natural law, metaphysics, and political theory.

The Purpose for the Passion by Lawrence Grott Pdf

Have you ever asked yourself why God created marriage with its biblical definition? Growing up, I've just accepted the fact it's a natural part of life for most adults. Through a combination of communication and observation over the years, I've learned it's a preferential environment to raise children. Coming from a Catholic background prior to getting saved, I was taught that you needed to get married to have sex and it not be a sin. Being saved, I obviously still agree with these things. However, being in agreement with something doesn't tell me why it's the way it is. Is there a deeper meaning to our day-to-day view of marriage? The answer to that question is a resounding yes! This question put me on the path of discovery through the study of scripture. Finding the Gospel of Christ tucked away within biblical marriages and noticing the specific roles given to husbands and wives are revelatory concerning the relationship between Jesus and the church. The biblical marriages we read about in our Bibles speak to every aspect of Christ. You'll be surprised to discover modern Christian marriages speak of Christ the same way. This book isn't a counselor's guide to teach you how to walk out your marriage. Although I'm not married, I desire to and will be one day. It's a revelation of our husband, Jesus Christ, from a perspective we normally don't have. That we realize our Christian marriages are prophetic of Christ's Second Coming and marriage to the church and take our responsibilities more seriously. This book is for the single person as much as it's for those who are already married because we're all Christ's bride. By reading this book, I'm positive it'll have a profound effect on your life and walk with Jesus Christ! Passion and Entrepreneurship by Enrico Baraldi,Simone Guercini,Marcus Lindahl,Andrea Perna Pdf

Providing new perspectives on the interface between passion and entrepreneurship, this book recognizes that entrepreneurship is not just based on the search for profit. Instead, the entrepreneurial experience incorporates more complex processes, often based on less rational behavior motivated by reasons other than revenue. ‘Passion’ refers both to emotional elements that may fuel an entrepreneurial effort as well as something that feeds the business. The book challenges established views and shows the complexity of the link between passion and entrepreneurship. The authors discuss the main implications for businesses, and explore how passion at the individual and community level influences entrepreneurial efforts. Offering case studies from multiple sectors alongside conceptual frameworks, this edited volume is a useful tool for scholars, practitioners, and policymakers working on entrepreneurship.
