Persephone's Awakening: The Rich One (Book #1) by Delcesca Newby Pdf

All myths skew the truth... From the age of five, Hades was imprisoned and tortured at the hands of his father, the Titan King. Every night he’d dream of freedom and the chance to seek his revenge. When Zeus saved him and their four siblings and declared war on the Titans, Hades thought his father’s days were numbered. Ten years later, Hades fears Cronus won’t face the consequences for his vile nature. The gods are struggling to maintain their early momentum. Lately, they lose more battles than they win. Morale is low, and many of their allies have abandoned them for the opposite side. The Fates propose a way for the gods to topple the Titans once and for all, and though apprehensive, Hades embraces the opportunity. His rash decision takes him to the Underworld to join forces with Kore, the Daemon Queen. Kore despises Cronus as much as the gods. She wants nothing more than to watch him suffer, and for the gods to reign in a new era. For ten years, she’s offered her assistance, and each time she’s been turned away. Finally, Zeus pushes Kore too far, and she vows to leave the gods to their inevitable demise. Her conviction doesn’t last long when Hades appears, begging for her help. Against her Council’ wishes and her own good sense, Kore agrees to lead Hades through her home, Tartarus, to search for the Hecatoncheires—the gods’ only hope to destroy Cronus. Their journey pushes them to their limits, in both body and mind. Along the way, their hearts get tangled in the mix; a more dangerous dilemma than defeating the Titans. For if they survive, to remain together, they may have to battle both the Underworld and Upperworld.

Persephone Rising by Carol S. Pearson Pdf

Nautilus Award Winner In this empowering work, the bestselling author of The Hero Within and Awakening the Heroes Within speaks to the heroine in every woman, offering potent strategies to forge lives of greater happiness and fulfillment—through activating the archetypes inherent in the ancient Greek myth of Demeter and Persephone. Our era of professional and familial pressures, constant connection, and a renewed debate on “having it all” presents unprecedented challenges to contemporary women. In Persephone Rising, celebrated scholar of depth psychology and archetypes Carol S. Pearson brings a fresh vision for meeting those challenges and rising above them, as only she can. Drawing on her profound understanding of myth's enduring power to catalyze transformations, Pearson guides readers on a journey of self-discovery, teaching us how to activate and apply the archetypes of Demeter and Persephone, as well as Zeus and Dionysus, in our own lives— empowering readers to see the unexpected choices and opportunities available to us all. Illuminating ancient wisdom for a modern audience, Persephone Rising offers meaningful and effective strategies to answer the call to heroism in our own lives: to locate and harness the unique potential within each of ourselves, and ultimately to develop our own innate heroic gifts. Just as Demeter and Persephone discovered, in the midst of great difficulty, their own powers, gifts, and abilities for creating a better path not only for themselves, but the world, Persephone Rising teaches that each one of us has more options than choosing whether to lean in or out—we have the power to change ourselves, and thus our world.

The Helm of Darkness by A. P. Mobley Pdf

The Greek gods are real, and they've come back with a vengeance. Andy and Zoey are two normal teenagers living in the year 2018—that is, until they're knocked unconscious in a freak storm sweeping the United States. When they wake up, the world they know has been tossed away. Their city is in ruins, strange creatures walk the earth, and worst of all, everyone is gone. They stumble across Diana and Spencer, two kids around their age who possess incredible magical abilities, and who claim to be the demigod children of Greek gods. Not only that, they also claim the year is 500 AS, five hundred years after the gods conjured a massive storm that destroyed most of humanity and helped them take the world as their own once again. Andy and Zoey are soon handed an impossible task: To save humanity. To lead a war on the gods. They'll have to battle monsters, death, and their own inner demons to survive and to protect the people they love. Gods. Monsters. Magic. War on the Gods is a completed series perfect for fans of Greek mythology and dark YA fantasy. Binge it today! Praise for The Helm of Darkness: "Fabulous reading! Incredible world-building! Characters that come to life! Tons of twists, lots of action!" - Dianne at Tome Tender, ★★★★★ "Even the smallest of characters has a backstory, invoking such a love and engagement in me that it was difficult to drag myself away. I loved all of our protagonists deeply, despite their flaws and behaviours." - JK at Book Odyssey, ★★★★★ "This is the kind of book where you wonder why everyone isn't raving about it because it's the best thing since sliced bread... Mobley did a great job writing believable characters that grew over the course of the book but never strayed from their original identity. The characters in this, even minor ones, were given so much detail and show how well-thought-out the story is." - Alexia at BookishEnds, ★★★★★ "I enjoyed seeing a darker side to the Gods. Mostly in books and in real life, we picture Gods as being heavenly light and pure with good intentions. I liked how the readers for once see the greedy, hateful, controlling side as well. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait to read the next book in the series, Poseidon's Trident!" - Julia at Pages for Thoughts, ★★★★★ "For fans of Greek mythology, this story is like a treasure trove of references that is bound to satisfy your appetite." - Alessandro Reale, award-winning author of Only One Samantha, ★★★★★ "This was a fast paced, dystopian adventure that I think fans of Percy Jackson would enjoy. There are some darker elements, some instances of gore, and some twists I never saw coming, so this may be better for those fans who age out of Percy." - C.E. Clayton, author of The Monster of Selkirk series, ★★★★★ "Mobley knows how to tell a story with good pacing and that picks up on timeless themes... a great YA book which would be a solid read for anyone who reads mythology-styled fantasy. Helm of Darkness has a feel like Rick Riordan meets Stargate (the movie), or maybe Road Warrior meets Clash of Titans." - Christopher D. Schmitz at Inside the Inkwell blog and author of the Dekker's Dozen series, ★★★★★ "Author A.P Mobley has written such a unique plot that I'm actually shocked that not a lot of people know about this story. If writing about Greek mythology wasn't enough for A.P Mobley, she also placed the story in the future after the Greek Gods had taken over Earth. Isn't that interesting enough or what? Like I said before but I'll say it again, WHY ISN'T THIS BOOK WELL KNOWN BY OTHER READERS???" - P. G. Guacamole at Goodreads, ★★★★★

A Globalised Visual Culture? by Fabio Guidetti,Katharina Meinecke Pdf

Late Antique artefacts, and the images they carry, attest to a highly connected visual culture from ca. 300 to 800 C.E. On the one hand, the same decorative motifs and iconographies are found across various genres of visual and material culture, irrespective of social and economic differences among their users – for instance in mosaics, architectural decoration, and luxury arts (silver plate, textiles, ivories), as well as in everyday objects such as tableware, lamps, and pilgrim vessels. On the other hand, they are also spread in geographically distant regions, mingled with local elements, far beyond the traditional borders of the classical world. At the same time, foreign motifs, especially of Germanic and Sasanian origin, are attested in Roman territories. This volume aims at investigating the reasons behind this seemingly globalised visual culture spread across the Late Antique world, both within the borders of the (former) Roman and (later) Byzantine Empire and beyond, bringing together diverse approaches characteristic of different national and disciplinary traditions. The presentation of a wide range of relevant case studies chosen from different geographical and cultural contexts exemplifies the vast scale of the phenomenon and demonstrates the benefit of addressing such a complex historical question with a combination of different theoretical approaches.

Spoiled Brats by Simon Rich Pdf

Having skewered the problems of falling in and out of love in The Last Girlfriend on Earth, Simon Rich's next book is another subject we can all relate to: parents and their kids. From the perils of raising an actual monster in Manhattan - it's pretty hard to find teachers who really understand the talents of a five-year-old with horns and a taste for blood - to Sell Out, the story of Simon's ancestor, returned to life decades after an industrial accident involving pickling brine, these stories are inventive, witty and sometimes a bit too much like real life.

Kabbalah and the Power of Dreaming by Catherine Shainberg Pdf

A dynamic exposition of the powerful, ancient Sephardic tradition of dreaming passed down from the renowned 13th-century kabbalist Isaac the Blind • Includes exercises and practices to access the dream state at will in order to engage with life in a state of enhanced awareness • Written by the close student of revered kabbalist Colette Aboulker-Muscat In Kabbalah and the Power of Dreaming Catherine Shainberg unveils the esoteric practices that allow us to unlock the dreaming mind's transformative and intuitive powers. These are the practices used by ancient prophets, seers, and sages to control dreams and visions. Shainberg draws upon the ancient Sephardic Kabbalah tradition, as well as illustrative stories and myths from around the Mediterranean, to teach readers how to harness the intuitive power of their dreaming. While the Hebrew Bible and our Western esoteric tradition give us ample evidence of dream teachings, rarely has the path to becoming a conscious dreamer been articulated. Shainberg shows that dreaming is not something that merely takes place while sleeping--we are dreaming at every moment. By teaching the conscious mind to be awake in our sleeping dreams and the dreaming mind to be manifest in daytime awareness, we are able to achieve revolutionary consciousness. Her inner-vision exercises initiate creative and transformative images that generate the pathways to self-realization.

Averno by Louise Glück Pdf

A ravishing collection by Louise Glück, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature Averno is a small crater lake in southern , regarded by the ancient Romans as the entrance to the underworld. That place gives its name to Louise Glück's eleventh collection: in a landscape turned irretrievably to winter, it is the only source of heat and light, a gate or passageway that invites traffic between worlds while at the same time opposing their reconciliation. Averno is an extended lamentation, its long, restless poems no less spellbinding for being without plot or hope, no less ravishing for being savage, grief-stricken. What Averno provides is not a map to a point of arrival or departure, but a diagram of where we are, the harrowing, enduring presence. Averno is a 2006 National Book Award Finalist for Poetry.

From the creator of the popular website Ask a Manager and New York’s work-advice columnist comes a witty, practical guide to 200 difficult professional conversations—featuring all-new advice! There’s a reason Alison Green has been called “the Dear Abby of the work world.” Ten years as a workplace-advice columnist have taught her that people avoid awkward conversations in the office because they simply don’t know what to say. Thankfully, Green does—and in this incredibly helpful book, she tackles the tough discussions you may need to have during your career. You’ll learn what to say when • coworkers push their work on you—then take credit for it • you accidentally trash-talk someone in an email then hit “reply all” • you’re being micromanaged—or not being managed at all • you catch a colleague in a lie • your boss seems unhappy with your work • your cubemate’s loud speakerphone is making you homicidal • you got drunk at the holiday party Praise for Ask a Manager “A must-read for anyone who works . . . [Alison Green’s] advice boils down to the idea that you should be professional (even when others are not) and that communicating in a straightforward manner with candor and kindness will get you far, no matter where you work.”—Booklist (starred review) “The author’s friendly, warm, no-nonsense writing is a pleasure to read, and her advice can be widely applied to relationships in all areas of readers’ lives. Unless by Carol Shields Pdf

“Unless you’re lucky, unless you’re healthy, fertile, unless you’re loved and fed, unless you’re offered what others are offered, you go down in the darkness, down to despair.” Reta Winters has many reasons to be happy: Her three almost grown daughters. Her twenty-year relationship with their father. Her work translating the larger-than-life French intellectual and feminist Danielle Westerman. Her modest success with a novel of her own, and the clamour of her American publisher for a sequel. Then in the spring of her forty-fourth year, all the quiet satisfactions of her well-lived life disappear in a moment: her eldest daughter Norah suddenly runs from the family and ends up mute and begging on a Toronto street corner, with a hand-lettered sign reading GOODNESS around her neck. GOODNESS. With the inconceivable loss of her daughter like a lump in her throat, Reta tackles the mystery of this message. What in this world has broken Norah, and what could bring her back to the provisional safety of home? Reta’s wit is the weapon she most often brandishes as she kicks against the pricks that have brought her daughter down: Carol Shields brings us Reta’s voice in all its poignancy, outrage and droll humour. Piercing and sad, astute and evocative, full of tenderness and laughter, Unless will stand with The Stone Diaries in the canon of Carol Shields’s fiction.
