Placer Gold Deposits of Utah (Classic Reprint) by Maureen G. Johnson Pdf

Excerpt from Placer Gold Deposits of Utah The most important placer district in Utah is the Bingham district, which produced more than ounces of placer gold. The placers in the Bingham district occurred in thick gravel deposits in Bingham Canyon and tributary drainages and were derived mostly from oxidized copper and lead-zinc-silver ores of Oligocene age. Most of the other productive placers in Utah occur along the major river drainages in the eastern part of the State, where sporadic accumulations of flake gold in sand and gravel bars have been mined. Small placers are found associated with lode deposits in scattered areas throughout Utah. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Placer Gold Deposits of Nevada (Classic Reprint) by Maureen G. Johnson Pdf

Excerpt from Placer Gold Deposits of Nevada Following the discovery of placers at Gold Canyon, placer discoveries in Nevada were broadly in three periods: the 1860's to 1880's, when many small deposits throughout the State were discovered and sporadically worked and several large placers were discovered and extensively worked; the short period between 1906 and 1910, when very rich placers were dis covered at Lynn, Battle Mountain, Manhattan, and Round Mountain; the early 1930's, when economic conditions created by the depression caused a renewed interest in placer mining, and many individuals sought, and a few discovered, new placer areas throughout the State. The location of the placers described in this report is shown on plate 1. Very little factual information can be found about the early periods of placer mining in Nevada. For many placers, the only reports available are hearsay estimates of production and speculations about the extent of the placer ground based on remnants of placer pits, shafts, and other workings. Many of the placers said to have had a high production between 1860 and 1890 were worked by Chinese miners who came to Nevada dur ing the building of the railroads and stayed on to work at mining and other activities. The Chinese were reputed to be secretive with their earnings from the placers and did not ship the gold to the mint by Wells Fargo or other shippers. They worked the gravels very thoroughly in areas where American miners did not wish to expend great labor to win the gold. The placers in the Sierra and Spring Valley districts, Pershing County, were worked by Chinese miners; they have a very high estimated production before 1900 and a comparatively low known production since that time. Placer Mining for Gold in California (Classic Reprint) by Charles Volney Averill Pdf

Excerpt from Placer Mining for Gold in California The increase in the price of gold from in 1932 to in 1933 and to in 1934 made such stories seem even more plausible and helped further to stimulate the migration of men to the creeks, despite the unfortunate experiences related by most of those drifting back from the gold-bearing areas. Stories of those who succeeded in making a living and of the very few who made strikes continued to be magnified out of all proportion, both in passing from mouth to mouth and in the press, and brought new recruits to the streams as late as 1937. Kawich's Gold Mine by Josiah F. Gibbs Pdf

Excerpt from Kawich's Gold Mine: An Historical Narrative of Mining in the Grand Canyon of the Colorado and of Love and Adventure Among the Polygamous Mormons of Southern Utah During January, 1905, at the time when the Nevada gold boom was at its zenith, I was commissioned by certain Omaha men to investigate investment conditions in the sagebrush state and report for further instructions. At the ending of that strenuous search for bonanza, real and prospective, during which a thousand Wildcats, held at a million dollars per wildcat, to each bonanza were examined, that by the merest accident I listened to one of the most startling narratives of placer mining in the Grand Canyon of the Colorado; of love and adventure among the Mormon fanatics of southern Utah, and the weird ending of a series of the most thrilling incidents ever told by one who would vouch for their truth. Disgusted with the chase through northern, central and south western Nevada where, always at distant points, bonanzas were as plentiful as sagebrush, I decided to hamain a few days at Las Vegas, on the Salt Lake, Los Angeles and San Pedro railroad, and rest in the never-failing sunshine of that locality. Placer Gold Deposits of New Mexico by Maureen G Johnson Pdf

Excerpt from Placer Gold Deposits of New Mexico: A Catalog of Location, Geology, and Production, With Lists of Annotated References Pertaining to the Placer Districts Most placer gold deposits in New Mexico are derived from gold-bearing mineralized areas in Tertiary intrusive rocks, and occur in gravels of alluvial fans, gulches, and rivers adjacent to the source. A few deposits are derived from gold-bearing Pre cambrian crystalline or Tertiary volcanic rocks. Most of the major placer districts were discovered and extensively worked between 1828 and 1880; in later years, large-scale dredging operations were successful at a few localities, while intermittent activity continued at most districts. Placer Gold Deposits of Utah - Geological Survey Bulletin 1357 by U. S. Department of the Interior Pdf

There are thousands of old hard rock mines and prospects throughout Utah that produced some gold as byproducts of silver, lead, zinc, etc. Creeks and rivers near these mines always have potential to produce some gold for a placer miner, but many have little reported about them due to lack of any significant concentrations. A few areas that have documented placer workings are listed below. The general area southwest of Salt Lake City has fine gold in the creeks near the Bingham Mine in the Oquirrh Mountains. In addition to lode mining, many placers have been exploited in this area. Johnson and Recapture Creeks in the Abajo Mountains. Gold has been found in the Colorado River, but it is extremely fine and requires great care to recover it. In the northeast corner of the state, the Green River has produced placer gold below Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Several creeks draining the Henry Mountains in Southeastern Utah. The San Juan River in the southwest part of the state has fine placer deposits.

The Cripple Creek Gold Fields, Placers, Lodes (Classic Reprint) by Colorado Midland Railway Company Pdf

Excerpt from The Cripple Creek Gold Fields, Placers, Lodes April, 1885. It is true, that the supposed rich deposit of gold was deposited there by human hands for speculative purposes; that the great mine in the new El Dorado was salted, but there was gold within so short a distance of the place where this piece of knavery was practiced, that it seems almost miraculous the mining district was not located at the time. Many an old prospector has examined the outcroppings, and one was even confident enough to run a tunnel into the hill directly under the spot where one of the richest deposits has since been located, but none succeeded in finding the gold.
