Poems of the Farm and Fireside (Classic Reprint) by Eugene J. Hall Pdf

Excerpt from Poems of the Farm and Fireside The following poems are neither the result of hours of idleness nor the imperfect fancies of one who has had nothing else to do. Most of them have been written in the editorial room, with the worry of printers and the hurry of newspaper work about the writer. He has received many words of encouragement from his friends, and has been gratified by the kindly reception some of them have met with from the press and the people. All have been written with a purpose; some to point out the abuses that are common in society, to show their deplorable effects and the means of reform; some to create a kindly feeling towards the poor and lowly; some to exhibit a few peculiar phases of human nature, that have come to the author's observation; some to describe the joys, the sorrows and the experiences of the human heart, and every one with the earnest intention and sincere hope of doing good. As literary achievements, the author does not claim any high degree of excellence for them, nor does he expect the approbation or the applause of literary persons. They have been written for the people; and to the working people, among whom the author has passed the greater portion of his life, he looks for encouragement and patronage. If therefore they meet with a friendly welcome from those for whose good they are intended, he will feel that his efforts in their behalf have not been in vain. Rainy Day Poems From the Farm by J. Morris Widdows Pdf

Excerpt from Rainy Day Poems From the Farm: Miscellaneous The poems contained herein are written in aplalu, unassum ing spirit, with no thought of making for ourself a name or pecuniary gain - indeed, writing is not our occupation, but rather a side issue for our own amusement and entertainment's sake. We generally carry pencil and note book, and as we follow in the furrow, whenever a thought or sentence presents itself, we clinch it right there and then. In this manner the greater part of these verses have been composed. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. REBECCA OF SUNNYBROOK FARM & NEW CHRONICLES OF REBECCA (Children's Book Classics) by Kate Douglas Wiggin Pdf

This carefully crafted ebook: "REBECCA OF SUNNYBROOK FARM & NEW CHRONICLES OF REBECCA (Children's Book Classics)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm is a classic American children's novel that tells the story of Rebecca Rowena Randall and her two stern aunts in the fictional village of Riverboro, Maine. Rebecca's joy for life inspires her aunts, but she faces many trials in her young life, gaining wisdom and understanding. The novel opens with Rebecca's journey to Riverboro, to live with her two aunts, Miranda and Jane Sawyer. Until this time, she has lived on the family farm. Rebecca is the second eldest of seven children and her family is quite poor, so moving in with her aunts is a chance to improve her opportunities in life. Miranda determines to do her duty and train Rebecca to be a proper young lady, so she will not shame the Sawyer name. Jane takes on the role of Rebecca's protector and teaches her to sew, cook and manage a household. Rebecca proves to be a good student and she becomes a young lady with the same high spirit and a talent for writing. New Chronicles of Rebecca is a sequel to Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. It doesn't follow Rebecca in her further adventures in life, but fills in some spaces left uncovered in a previous book. It consists of chronologically arranged tales about Rebecca starting when she is around 12 and ending when she's 18 years old. These lovely chapters complete the charming story of Rebecca's rough childhood, following her from a poor, but imaginative young girl to a proper young lady. Kate Douglas Wiggin (1856-1923) was an American educator and author of children's stories, most notably the classic children's novel Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm. She started the first free kindergarten. With her sister she also established a training school for kindergarten teachers and devoted her adult life to the welfare of children.

There are more than 20 million quilters in the United States, and 78 percent of dedicated quilters read for pleasure. To reach this vast group, we've expanded our line of quilting books by bringing back "A Patchwork of Pieces, previously published in 1993. "Love of Quilts features twenty-eight entertaining short stories about quilts and quilters collected from the pages of classic magazines such as "Godey's Lady's Book, Harper's Bazaar, and "Good Housekeeping, introducing readers to the captivating worlds of quilters in other times and places. From courtings that nearly go astray to husbands and wives brought together by quilts to quilters obsessed with securing scraps, "Love of Quilts has something for every quilter. Fascinating fiction, these stories also provide important social history. This book also includes a bibliography of quilt fiction and a time line that lists American quilt fiction, plays, poems, and patterns published from 1845 to 1940.
