Dielectric Materials for Energy Storage and Energy Harvesting Devices by Shailendra Rajput,Sabyasachi Parida,Abhishek Sharma,Sonika Pdf

As the demand for energy harvesting and storage devices grows, this book will be valuable for researchers to learn about the most current achievements in this sector. Sustainable development systems are centered on three pillars: economic development, environmental stewardship, and social. One of the ideas established to achieve balance between these pillars is to minimize the usage of nonrenewable energy sources. Harvesting energy from the surrounding environment and converting it into electrical power is one viable solution to this problem. In recent years, there has been a surge in the development of new energy generation technologies such as solar, wind, and thermal energy to replace fossil fuel energy supplies with cleaner renewable ones. Energy harvesting systems have emerged as a key study topic and are rapidly expanding.

ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVES AND TRANSMISSION LINES by R. S. RAO Pdf

This systematic and well-written book provides an in-depth analysis of all the major areas of the subject such as fields, waves and lines. It is written in a simple and an easy-to-understand language. Beginning with a discussion on vector calculus, the book elaborately explains electrostatics, including the concepts of electric force and field intensity, electric displacement, Gauss law, conductors, dielectrics and capacitors. This is followed by a detailed study of magnetostatics, covering Biot–Savart law, Lorentz’s force law and Ampere’s circuital law. Then, it discusses Maxwell’s equations that describe the time-varying fields and the wave theory which is the basis of radiation and wireless communications. Finally, the book gives a fair treatment to transmission line theory, which is a foundation course in mechanical engineering. The text is well-supported by a large number of solved and unsolved problems to enhance the analytical skill of the students. The problems are framed to test the conceptual understanding of the students. It also includes plenty of objective type questions with answers. It is intended as a textbook for the undergraduate students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering for their course on Electromagnetic Waves and Transmission Lines.

Physics of Crystalline Dielectrics by I.S. Zheludev Pdf

Research in solid-state physics in general and in the physics of dielectrics in particular has grown rapidly in scope and quan tity in the last twenty-five years. In the fifties and early sixties, there was an upsurge of interest in ferroelectricity, piezoelectrici ty, and pyroelectricity. The classical physics of dielectrics, rep resented by books of H. Frohlich, C.P. Smyth, G.I. Skanavi, and A. von Hippel, is now unthinkable without ferroelectricity. The structure and properties of ferroelectrics have been described in a number of books and reviews, including those of W. Kanzig, H.D. Megaw, F. Jona and G. Shirane, W.J. Merz and E. Fatuzzo. The present work deals with the physics of crystalline di electrics and is based on the investigations carried out by scien tists throughout the world. But, understandably, the emphasis is on the research done in the USSR, particularly in the author's labo ratory. A special feature of this two-volume treatise is the pro minent place given to the symmetry and structure of dielectrics and to the importance of spontaneous electric polarization in many properties of crystals. In fact, these aspects take up the whole of the first volume. The second volume is concerned mainly with various properties and phenomena whose nature is illustrated by considering specific crystals. Thus, for example, the phenomena of polarization, piezoelectricity, electrostriction, etc., are first discussed in detail. Then follow descriptions of these phenomena in specific compounds.

Ferroelectric Thin Films by Carlos Paz de Araujo,James F. Scott,George W. Taylor Pdf

The impetus for the rapid development of thin film technology, relative to that of bulk materials, is its application to a variety of microelectronic products. Many of the characteristics of thin film ferroelectric materials are utilized in the development of these products - namely, their nonvolatile memory and piezoelectric, pyroelectric, and electro-optic properties. It is befitting, therefore, that the first of a set of three complementary books with the general title Integrated Ferroelectric Devices and Technologies focuses on the synthesis of thin film ferroelectric materials and their basic properties. Because it is a basic introduction to the chemistry, materials science, processing, and physics of the materials from which integrated ferroelectrics are made, newcomers to this field as well as veterans will find this book self-contained and invaluable in acquiring the diverse elements requisite to success in their work in this area. It is directed at electronic engineers and physicists as well as process and system engineers, ceramicists, and chemists involved in the research, design, development, manufacturing, and utilization of thin film ferroelectric materials.

Multifunctional Polycrystalline Ferroelectric Materials by Lorena Pardo,Jesús Ricote Pdf

This book presents selected topics on processing and properties of ferroelectric materials that are currently the focus of attention in scientific and technical research. Ferro-piezoelectric ceramics are key materials in devices for many applications, such as automotive, healthcare and non-destructive testing. As they are polycrystalline, non-centrosymmetric materials, their piezoelectricity is induced by the so-called poling process. This is based on the principle of polarization reversal by the action of an electric field that characterizes the ferroelectric materials. This book was born with the aim of increasing the awareness of the multifunctionality of ferroelectric materials among different communities, such as researchers, electronic engineers, end-users and manufacturers, working on and with ferro-piezoelectric ceramic materials and devices which are based on them. The initiative to write this book comes from a well-established group of researchers at the Laboratories of Ferroelectric Materials, Materials Science Institute of Madrid (ICMM-CSIC). This group has been working in different areas concerning thin films and bulk ceramic materials since the mid-1980s. It is a partner of the Network of Excellence on Multifunctional and Integrated Piezoelectric Devices (MIND) of the EC, in which the European Institute of Piezoelectric Materials and Devices has its origin.
