Oil Finding by Edward Hubert Cunningham Craig Pdf

Excerpt from Oil Finding: An Introduction to the Geological Study of Petroleum On the other hand, the mystery-mongers, who were wont to dilate upon the difficulty of petroleum problems, are, with the advance of knowledge, finding it more and more difficult to wrap such a practical subject as the finding and winning of oil in vague and general verbiage, warning the student to beware of heterodox Opinions without giving some clear indication as to what they consider orthodox. Popular Oil Geology by Victor Ziegler Pdf

Excerpt from Popular Oil Geology The following pages represent an elaboration of a number of popular lectures in the geology of oil and gas. These were delivered during the past winter, in part at the Colorado School of Mines and in part in the City of Denver, under the auspices of the Colorado State Oil Commission. This little book is not intended to be a general treatise on the subject of oil and gas geology. It is not intended for the experienced oil geologist. It is written for the man without technical or scientific training in this branch of geology. Every attempt has been made to present in as simple language as possible the fundamental principles of oil geology, and to render these intelligible to the layman who may be interested in this subject from the practical standpoint, or for the sake of making investments, or perhaps only because of a desire to add to his general knowledge. Anyone who wishes to continue his studies in this subject is referred to the treatises mentioned below, or to the authors Principles of Oil Geology, which is now in preparation, and to which this little book is really an introduction. I have not hesitated to draw liberally on the literature of petroleum. Because of the nature of the book, and in the desire to keep it as free as possible from unnecessary material, I have purposely refrained from citations and acknowledgments in the text. I have used most freely the following works: Bacon and Hamor, "The American Petroleum Industry"; Johnson and Huntley, "Oil and Gas Production"; A. Beeby Thompson, "Oil Field Development"; Hager, "Practical Oil Geology"; and Cunningham Craig, "Oil Finding". Petroleum Geology of Wyoming (Classic Reprint) by L. W. Trumbull Pdf

Excerpt from Petroleum Geology of Wyoming NO attempt has been made to refer by footnotes to the many geologists who have worked and written upon different areas in the State. A bibliography is given elsewhere, and the writer acknowledges his indebtedness to each and every writer and work in the list. When the writer began his geologic work in Wyo ming in 1904, the published data were very meager. The surveys of Hayden and King covered the south half of the State in a reconnaissance way, but were not, for obvious reasons, tied to the public land survey. During the past dozen years the work of the United States Geological Survey on coal, oil and phosphate has given us many splendid detailed surveys of different areas within the State. This volume, especially the accompanying map, could not be compiled, were it not for these Government reports. Oil Prospecting, Drilling and Extraction (Classic Reprint) by Forest John Swears Sur Pdf

Excerpt from Oil Prospecting, Drilling and Extraction In the mining industry for the prospector, miner, geologist and engineer many books have been written. However, the prospector for oil, the driller and the general operator have never had any book giving. Any classified and systematic data. In this book I have, therefore, attempted to fulfill the requirements of the last mentioned. Especially for Canada is this now needed, where vast areas of oil formations with tremendous productive potentialities lie unprospected when wells are being drilled in large numbers in other parts of the World where infinitely fewer indications for large production existed at the initial stage of development. If the petroleum prospector can work from the standpoint of the trained geologist his efforts will be greatly simplified and will be much more effective. This book is designed to furnish the information that will permit the. Prospector to work in. This way. Petroleum geology has been a specialized profession only within the last ten years. Previous to that time all oil men chose locations for wells and did all other work by chance and by guess. Prospecting for Oil and Gas (Classic Reprint) by L. S. Panyity Pdf

Excerpt from Prospecting for Oil and Gas To that class who are interested only in the investing or speculating features of the industry, geology is almost unknown. Advertisements or prospectuses of oil and gas ventures are often coupled with a geological report, and whether such report is merely an extract or is given in full, the investing public is unable to analyze its contents and pass judgment upon its merits. There are valuable books written on this subject, the majority of which are intended for the professional geologist, and although invaluable to him, they are too technical or cover only a certain branch of oil and gas prospecting and producing. The profes sioual geologist will notice that in this book an attempt is made to put before practical oil men and the general public the various tools and methods of the scientific oil and gas prospector of the present day, avoiding lengthy discussions and confining its scope mostly to descriptions and explanations, by means of which it is hoped that those interested will be brought into a more intimate relationship with the geologist, and thus they may realize just what may be expected of him and how much service he may render in eliminating a great number of unnecessary chance methods frequently used at the present day. Another class of readers to whom the author hopes this treatise will be of assistance is composed of those who intend to take up and follow the profession of Oil and Gas Geology. For them it may serve as an elementary work on the subject and form an outline of the various phases of study that make up this sub jcet. They will find the different branches of the science treated briefly, and along those lines which will lead the student in his further study and researches. In short, the methods of the leading oil and gas companies are described in a brief manner, and those investigating will find them in this volume.
