India-Pakistan Relations with Special Reference to Kashmir by Kulwant Rai Gupta Pdf

The Editor Maintains That India Had To Agree To Partition Under Compelling Circumstances. After India Got Independence, It Should Have Taken Steps To Undo The Mischief Of Our British Rulers. Things Would Have Been Much Easier Immediately After Partition, Particularly, When Pakistan Provided An Excuse To Us By Sending Its Forces In Kashmir. The Pakistan Army At That Time Was Weak And The Job Could Have Been Done At A Minimum Cost. The Second Opportunity Arose In 1965 When Pakistan Again Attacked Kashmir. The Third Opportunity Came In 1971 When Pakistani Forces Attacked India. But The Operation Now Would Be Much More Costlier In Terms Of Men And War Materials Because The Pakistan Has Built A Strong Army And Developed Nuclear Power Over The Long Period Provided To Them By India S Rulers. But This Cost May Still Be Less Than The Cost We Are Incurring From Continued Hostility And Cross Border Terrorism In The Form Of Continuous Military Deployment And Killings Of Civil And Military Persons.Pakistan Is Constantly Blaming India In All Regional And International Fora For Not Implementing The United Nations Resolution Regarding Holding Of Plebiscite In Jammu And Kashmir. In Fact, Pakistan Is Responsible For This Because It Has Failed To Withdraw Its Forces From Jammu And Kashmir Which Was A Condition For Holding Plebiscite According To The United Nations Resolution. The Editor Holds That India Should Drop No First Use Of Nuclear Weapons Policy Against A Country Which Repeatedly Threatens First Use Of Nuclear Weapons. The First Use Of Nuclear Weapons By Pakistan May Be So Massive And Widespread That It May Disable India To Use The Nuclear Weapon. If India Drops Its No First Use Option Of Nuclear Weapons, Pakistan Would Stop Blackmailing India And May Even Be Deterred Venturing Terrorism In India. The Volumes Include Viewpoints Of A Number Of Eminent Experts On Indo-Pak Relations. These Include Views Not Only Of Indian Experts But Also Of Pakistani Experts. The Volumes Contain Texts Of All The Documents In Original Relating To Indo-Pak Relations Since The Partition Of India In 1947. It Is Hoped That The Volumes Would Be Found Useful By The Students And Research Scholars Concerned With International Relations. The Volumes Would Also Be Useful To The Parliamentarians And Executives Of India And Pakistan Concerned With The Formulation And Execution Of Foreign Policy Of Their Country. Common Readers Interested In Indo-Pak Relations Would Also Find The Volumes Useful And Interesting. The Volumes Would Be Equally Useful For All Libraries, Officers Messes And Institutions Of Defence Services.

CBMs In India-Pakistan Relations by Surender Singh Pdf

About the Book India and Pakistan, the two important countries of the South Asian Sub-continent, have had a far from cordial relationship. It was in sum a love-hate relationship in which one is compelled to unwillingly coexist with the other and retain a constant but correct relationship on account of geography and historical circumstances. This state of affairs between the two countries could be traced to the very beginning of the birth of the two nations in 1947. The problems that existed in the initial years of their independence have survived in the seventh decade with no signs yet of any enduring solution. This study deals with India-Pakistan relations from 2003 to the present time. This period has been chosen because it signifies the culmination of certain trends in the relationship between the two nations after the start of the process of Confidence Building Measures (CBMs). This book provides a theoretical understanding of the South Asian region in general and India-Pakistan relations in particular. It analyses not only India’s interests and policy options towards Pakistan but also evaluates the real nature of their bilateral relations. It has discussed not only the key issues between them, such as Kashmir, Terrorism, Siachen, Sir Creek, Drug Trafficking but also provides their likely solutions to these problems. Besides this, the process of CBMs and the steps taken by both nations are also discussed in it. Hence this book presents an overview of the contemporary nature of India-Pakistan relations after the start of the process of CBMs. The book may be beneficial for students, teachers, policymakers, diplomats, as well as, common readers engaged in understandings the current discourses on India-Pakistan relations in this changed international milieu.

The New International Politics of South Asia by Vernon Hewitt Pdf

Revised and substantially updated, The new international politics of South Asia argues that the politics of the individual states of South Asia cannot be understood without reference to the regional and international context. The author emphasises the need to consider rapid political, social and economic change in the context of debates over ethnic identity and changes within the international system following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Recent changes have opened up new opportunities for the region, but have also exposed specific weaknesses. The author discusses India’s evolving relationship with the international economic system, economic reforms in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, as well as key issues such as the regional position on the NPT treaty, the Comprehensive Test Ban treaty, environmental issues, and the post-Cold War world order.

Peace Psychology in Asia by Cristina Jayme Montiel,Noraini M. Noor Pdf

In recent years, peace psychology has grown from a utopian idea to a means of transforming societies worldwide. Yet at the same time peacebuilding enjoys global appeal, the diversity of nations and regions demands interventions reflecting local cultures and realities. Peace Psychology in Asia shows this process in action, emphasizing concepts and methods diverging from those common to the US and Europe. Using examples from China, India, Indonesia, the Philippines, and elsewhere in the region, chapter authors illuminate the complex social, political, and religious conditions that have fostered war, colonialism, dictatorships, and ethnic strife, and the equally intricate personal and collective psychologies that need to be developed to encourage reconciliation, forgiveness, justice, and community. Peace Psychology in Asia: Integrates psychology, history, political science, and local culture into concepts of peace and reconciliation. Highlights the indigenous aspects of peace psychology. Explains the critical relevance of local culture and history in peace work. Blends innovative theoretical material with empirical evidence supporting peace interventions. Balances its coverage among local, national, regional, and global contexts. Analyzes the potential of Asia as a model for world peace. As practice-driven as it is intellectually stimulating, Peace Psychology in Asia is vital reading for social and community psychologists, policy analysts, and researchers in psychology and sociology and international studies, including those looking to the region for ideas on peace work in non-Western countries.

Kashmir in Comparative Perspective by Sten Widmalm Pdf

This book investigates the factors that led to the breakdown of democracy and the rise of violent separatism in Jammu and Kashmir in the 1980s, and how the risk of a large-scale war has grown in South Asia in the 1990s. Solutions to this conflict need to be based on knowledge about what caused it as well as perspectives on why this conflict is so particularly dangerous. Widmalm offers answers in this book, with systematic comparisons over time to establish the causes of the conflict. He refutes the contention that ethnic factors are the main cause, while acknowledging that ethnic dividing lines are salient features of the conflict today. Interviews with representatives of the Indian government, the ISI in Pakistan and separatist leaders in Jammu and Kashmir are also incorporated.
