Prayer & Temperament by Chester P. Michael,Marie C Norrisey Pdf
Based on Carl Jung's theory of psychological type, and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, this book explores the relationship between human temperament and prayer. The idea for developing a preference-guided approach to prayer to deepen spiritual development arose from a 1982 survey, called the Prayer Project, that included more than 400 participants from the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Sacred Pathways reveals nine distinct spiritual temperaments--and their strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies--to help you improve your spiritual life and deepen your personal walk with God. It's time to strip away the frustration of a one-size-fits-all spirituality and discover a path of worship that frees you to be you. Experienced spiritual directors, pastors, and church leaders recognize that all of us engage with God differently, and it's about time we do too. In this updated and expanded edition of Sacred Pathways, Gary Thomas details nine spiritual temperaments and--like the Enneagram and other tools do with personality--encourages you to investigate the ways you most naturally express yourself in your relationship with God. He encourages you to dig into the traits, strengths, and pitfalls in your devotional approach so you can eliminate the barriers that keep you locked into rigid methods of worship and praise. Plus, as you begin to identify and understand your own temperament, you'll soon learn about the temperaments that aren't necessarily "you" but that may help you understand the spiritual tendencies of friends, family, and others around you. Whatever temperament or blend of temperaments best describes you, rest assured it's not by accident. It's by the design of a Creator who knew what he was doing when he made you according to his own unique intentions. If your spiritual walk is not what you'd like it to be, you can change that, starting here. Sacred Pathways will show you the route you were made to travel, marked by growth and filled with the riches of a close walk with God. A Sacred Pathways video Bible study is also available for group or individual use, sold separately.
Prayer and Temperament by Chester P. Michael,Marie C. Norrisey Pdf
The possibility of a close connection between personality types and prayer and spirituality has been conjectured by many persons. There has been much discussion on the topic, but almost nothing has been published. The present volume is among the first in print on the relationship between human temperament and prayer. The conclusions in this book are based on a Prayer Project conducted throughout 1982 with more than four hundred participants from all over the United States and even from Canada and Australia. The recommendations for the different forms of prayer appropriate for the different temperaments and personality types have been tested in a number of workshops, in parish retreats, and in spiritual direction of numerous persons. Without claiming to be the last word that can be said on this subject of prayer and temperament, the authors now offer their findings and conclusions to a wider audience. It is hope that many others will find the same help to their prayer life and growth in spirituality that hundreds of other women and men have received.
Why do so many struggle to pray? Dr. Pablo Martinez, a medical doctor and psychotherapist, suggests that our basic personality type strongly affects both how we pray and what we pray about.
Pray as you can - don't try to pray as you can't. This is the thesis of this book, which aims to set readers free to express themselves in prayer in ways that best suit their personality and temperament. We need, the author says, to develop a living relationship with God complete with the specific individual facets that make our personalities unique. In order to pray effectively, we must find the prayer pattern that is most suited to us and to our personal - and sometimes changing - needs.

In Knowing Me, Knowing God, Malcolm Goldsmith provides an easy-to-follow introduction to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as it pertains to the spiritual life. The heart of this book is a spirituality questionnaire and its interpretation in connection to spirituality. The intent of the book is to explore ways in which persons might best open their hearts and minds to God. Knowing Me, Knowing God is a valuable resource for retreat leaders, worship committee members, spiritual directors, prayer group members, and others who are looking for material that help them focus on the needs of their community. The spirituality questionnaire is designed for personal completion as an integral part of the total book. It can, however, be used in small groups to stimulate discussion.

Have you wandered from the life you want to live? Chrystal Evans Hurst shares raw and vulnerable stories from her own life to let you know how you too can find your way back after a few missteps. Over 100,000 copies sold! What happens when a woman looks at herself in the mirror, lingering just a little longer than usual and realizes that she no longer recognizes the person staring back at her? What does she do when she sees that, somehow, her life has drifted away from all her original hopes, dreams, or plans? Speaker, blogger, and writer Chrystal Evans Hurst wrote this book because she was that woman. One day she realized that she had somehow wandered from the life she was meant to live. Chrystal since discovered that this moment of awareness happens to lots of women at different seasons of their lives. Poor decisions, a lack of intentionality or planning, or a long-term denial of deep hopes and dreams can leave a woman, old or young, reeling from the realization that she is lost, disappointed, or simply numb. And she just needs encouragement. This woman simply needs someone to hold her hand, cheer her on, and believe with her that she is still capable of being the person she intended to be. Chrystal uses her poignant story of an early and unexpected pregnancy, as well as other raw and vulnerable moments in her life, to let readers know she understands what it's like to try and find your way after some missteps or decisions you didn't plan on. In She's Still There Chrystal emphasizes the importance of the personal process and the beauty of authentically sharing your journey one girlfriend to another. It’s a book of "me toos," reminders of the hoped for, and challenges for the path ahead--to find direction, purpose, and true satisfaction. Also available: She's Still There DVD series and study guide.
Spiritually Revitalizing Your Community of Faith through Prayer by Robert Arthur Hansen, DMin Pdf
As we enter a Community of Faith for the first time, we are naturally drawn to a shared spirituality. It may be a congregation, synagogue, mosque, or temple. It is shared spiritually of the people at prayer which attracts us and draws us to unite with others in prayer. There are three shared stands of any Community of Faith: their shared faith tradition, the culture of the community, and the personalities of the members. This book examines the elements of tradition, culture, and personal temperament to determine how the three become spiritually integrated at the moment of prayer. The conclusion is that through an explicit assessment of these three elements, members of the faith community can enrich their personal spiritual life, resulting in spiritual growth and can ultimately revitalize the spiritual prayer life of the community of faith. The books is a spiritual intervention of a Presbyterian congregation in Central New York in the 1980s. I'm grateful for the prayer group that committed there Wednesday nights during 1986. This is their story of how they were able to revitalize the spiritual life of a 150-year-old three-hundred-member Presbyterian congregation.
Prayer in Counselling and Psychotherapy by Peter Madsen Gubi Pdf
Gubi argues that philosophically, all counselling can be regarded as prayer, particularly when working at relational depth; that prayer plays an important part in maintaining many mainstream counsellors' well-being and, with considered ethical awareness, prayer can be integrated ethically into counselling when working with people of faith.
