Principals' Principles by John Da Via,Mark Brown Pdf

"You should write a book!!" John and Mark heard it from teachers, from parents, from friends and family members, and even sometimes from the students themselves. So they did. From conversations about the factors forcing our public schools from being places where children should be nurtured academically, socially, and emotionally, to the stories that comprised their over ten years together in a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence (2000) with a nine out of ten rating in Greatschools.com, you'll find it in Principals' Principals. From their first days, when the Vice President of the United States spent the day at their school, to the locker that ate a sixth grader's head, and everything in between, you'll feel the warmth of what middle schools once were and what they can and should be again! John and Mark discuss the importance of relationships among all parties within the educational community and share with parents and educators some of the practical, time-tested, and sometimes counterintuitive methods that worked for their students during the roller-coaster years we call middle school. Please enjoy the ride!

Proverb’s Principles for Principals by Rich Kornoelje Pdf

When I made the move from teaching into administration, I felt like the visually impaired man in a large department store. He went to the middle of the store, grabbed his Seeing Eye dog by the tail, and started to swing him in large circles overhead. Several clerks rushed to him, saying, “Sir, may we help you?” His reply, “Nope, just looking.” I, too, began to look for ideas. The following pages suggest many ideas that have been selected from a biblical foundation from the book of Proverbs. About the Book For the past several years, it has been my privilege to serve in education, most of which have been in administration. I have always enjoyed the wonderful book of Proverbs and have tried to apply many of its principles to my life. Down through the years, it has been interesting to write down some ideas as to how many of these principles have applied to my administrative responsibilities as a principal. The book of Proverbs is extremely practical, and its concepts can be applied to both public and private (Christian) educators. I have attempted to present the biblical concept, to concisely expand upon it, and to leave the reader with the thought of practical application. I certainly do not pretend to have all the answers toward improving our educational systems. I have often failed at communication, sometimes saying far too much and other times not saying enough. I have assumed others knew my expectations only to find that my directions were not clearly understood. Several of the principles deal with effective communication. I have been privileged to have been blessed with many mentors. Dr. Anthony Fortosis often emphasized this verse referring to David, “So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands” (Psalm 98:72). May it be so for you.

These very ideas transformed our school from low-performing to being awarded the prestigious National Blue Ribbon by the U.S. Department of Education for our progress in closing the achievement gaps. This book is designed to be a practical-based approach to leadership, designed around a proven learner-centered approach. The proven learner-centered "What I Need" intervention system is outlined in detail within the book and sets the stage for how this book is designed for your leadership solutions. Lessons learned from seasoned administrators are discussed and outlined throughout the book to help the reader reflect and apply scenarios to their own schools. Each chapter concludes with a problem-based scenario that allows the learner to walk through a provided roadmap to help design a solution to an issue in their school. This book will hopefully be "What You Need" to spark a thoughtful solution to an area of struggle on your leadership journey. True professional growth is acquired through reflection. We feel this book provides the spark for reflection in some common areas where we have struggled in our leadership experience. A true learner-centered school is composed of professionals with a passion for learning. If we, as educators, can model a love for learning, it sends a powerful message to the students. I have learned many lessons over the past twenty years as an administrator. Hopefully, some of the lessons shared in the book will make your journey a little easier. Remember to be your best self, build relationships, be grateful, lead with passion, and always model a love for learning. - Morris Lyon, Superintendent, and Author I believe successful schools must have strong and effective leaders. The fundamental purpose of writing this book is to assist you as you transform your school into a true, high-performing school and to help you improve student achievement and learning. I hope that by sharing our experiences and what we have learned, we can help you on this journey. - Stephanie McConnell, Principal, Author, and Owner of Principal Principles

The Principal’S Principles by David Robinson Pdf

Education is a right for all young people in the world, yet quality and relevant education is still elusive. Schools are searching for the perfect recipe for success in a rapidly changing world. Principals are at the focal point of educational delivery, which makes leading schools throughout the world one of the most stressful and challenging occupations. It is a profession that requires many different life, leadership, and management skills. Working with people is, at best, filled with drama, and in addition, principals lead schools crowded with impressionable and volatile children or teenagers with all their changing hormones, peer pressure, the stresses of society, and the challenges emanating from their complex family structures. Teachers are facing huge challenges in the classroom that force heads of schools to give more supportive and constructive leadership. Creating the perfect balance between discipline, compassion, maintaining academic standards, and a relevant academic path for students, all while leading a motivated and skilled staff of teachers is a mammoth task for any individual. This book is a guide to the challenges facing a principal and the skills needed to navigate a school to success.

Governing by Principles by Eric Craymer,Susan Radwan Pdf

There are lots of books and articles on governance in general. Many can be helpful, but few, maybe very few, actually show or explain a cohesive and comprehensive system of governance. Without a unified and encompassing system, boards will never be able to maximize their contribution to the organization and its purpose for existence. The purpose of this book is to make sure that they can. There is only one system that we have found which does address the above problem. That system is Policy Governance®.If you are on a Policy Governance board or any other type of board, this book will empower your governing.Based on input from multiple boards and ten's, and possibly more than a hundred, training sessions with boards we have determined that Policy Governance concepts make a positive change in a board's impact and that two specific insights can amplify that impact: 1.To understand and maximize the system's benefits, a board must deeply understand the principles of the system, the implications of those principles and their "1+1=5" synergy when used as a set.2.For a governing board to sustain this particular system, it needs to own it. The model must be truly owned by the board, using both ongoing study and diligence. It must become the board's culture, not just its governing system. This book will provide insight into the importance of the principles, their synergies as a whole, and, ultimately, amplifying the board's value and empowering the organization's purpose.
