Christians Disguised As Prisoners by Jr. Payne,Leonard M. Payne Pdf

Prisons are an institutional altar God has placed in communities all around us. In this book, the author is giving an invitation for the outside churches to minister in such a way that Jesus can say: I was in prison and you came to me. Prisons are mission fields in which God has brought the world to our back yards. Any given prison in America houses inmates from all nations around the world. This book is also a call to the Church to answer Jesus Christ's Great Commission: to go into all the world and make disciples. After thirty years as a prison chaplain and assistant program director, the author has a keen insight into this rewarding ministry. He draws that knowledge from personal experiences, writing policies, and training staff and volunteers. He has ministered with and to the inmates on every level of the system, including Death Row. This book is essential for serious readers who are seeking to improve relationships with wardens, correctional officers, chaplains and inmates, their family, and the victims. Leonard M. Payne, Jr. was just a country preacher with a PhD (Praying Hard Daily) when he applied for the chaplain position at the West Virginia State Penitentiary, Moundsville, WV. He was the only staff member allowed to go with Governor Arch Moore to the negotiations during the 1986 riots at the West Virginia State Penitentiary. He has authored two books: Un-redeemer Son and Daughters and My People Yesterday, Today and Forever, a history of the Glorious Churches of God in Christ, in which he presently serves as National Director of Chaplaincy. He holds a Doctoral degree from the United Theological Seminary, a Master of Divinity and a Master of Arts from the Methodist Theological School in Delaware, Ohio. Leonard lives in St. Clairsville, Ohio with his wife, Charlotte

From Prisoner to Prince by Samuel Emadi Pdf

The story of Joseph is prominent in the book of Genesis and yet is rarely mentioned in the rest of Scripture. How then do we understand Joseph's significance in redemptive history? When Christians have addressed this question, the conversation has frequently turned toward typology: Is Joseph a type of the Messiah? Messianic interpretations of the Joseph narrative have often lacked methodological rigor or have simply failed to make a convincing case. Most often interpreters have simply noted historical correspondences between Joseph and Jesus, without considering the narrative's function in the context of Genesis, its redemptive-historical significance, or its appropriation by later biblical authors. In this New Studies in Biblical Theology volume, Samuel Emadi offers a more comprehensive canonical treatment of the Joseph narrative. He considers Genesis 37–50 in its own literary and theological context, intra-canonical development of the Joseph story via inner-biblical allusion, and New Testament references and allusions. Emadi defends the notion that Joseph functions as the resolution to the plot of Genesis and that this story typologically influences how later biblical authors narrate redemptive history, culminating in the New Testament's portrayal of Jesus as an antitypical, new and final Joseph. Addressing key issues in biblical theology, the works comprising New Studies in Biblical Theology are creative attempts to help Christians better understand their Bibles. The NSBT series is edited by D. A. Carson, aiming to simultaneously instruct and to edify, to interact with current scholarship and to point the way ahead.

Jesus In The Jail by Samee Solanky Pdf

(1) Revival began in the Olmos high-security prison (Argentina, South America), with half of its 3,000 inmates now believers. This revival spread to 200 other prisons. An estimated 25 percent of all prisoners in Argentina are now Christians. One prison, Cristo la Unica Esperanza, has become a completely (100 percent) evangelical prison in Latin America. Approximately 250 pastors work in prisons in Argentina. (2) The success story of Bellavista Prison (Columbia, Central America), a maximum-security prison in Medellin that was often called “hell on earth,” is an inspiration. Through prayer and bold Christian witness, the prison has seen a remarkable turning of hardened criminals to Christ and the end of rampant murderousness. Many inmates are now believers, and there is regular prayer, fasting, and evangelism in this prison, and even a Christian radio station has been formed there. A Bible institute has also been formed in this prison, training inmates to minister both in prison and after release. If God can do this in South America, in Central America, in Westchester County Jail (NY), in Metropolitan Detention Center (NY), and in Otisville Prison-Camp (NY), then HE can do this in other prisons of the United States of America and the world, too. Is there anything too hard for the Lord?

On Crimes and Punishment by Cesare Beccaria Pdf

"Crimes are more effectually prevented by the certainty than the severity of punishment" Originally published in 1764, Beccaria's treatise argued rationally against torture and death in the name of law and order. It was influential throughout Europe, leading to reforms in France and Tuscany. Its influence is difficult to overstate. A later edition included an anonymous commentary by Voltaire, and translations - such as this one - were widely read by some of the world's greatest writers and academics: John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, William Blackstone, William Eden and Jeremy Bentham, to name a few.

Double Blessing by Mark Batterson Pdf

God doesn't bless us to raise our standard of living. God blesses us to raise our standard of giving, and that's where true joy is found. The New York Times bestselling author of Chase the Lion challenges us not to settle for half of what God offers when it comes to blessings—we are BLESSED to BLESS. His discovery started with a simple experiment. Whenever Batterson received a blessing, he would give a similar blessing away. If someone paid him a compliment or gave him a gift or went out of their way to help him, he would return the favor by doing something similar for someone else. We flip the blessing by blessing others in the way God has blessed us. That’s how the blessing becomes a double blessing. It turns giving into a game—one we can’t win because God will always outgive us! It’s an ancient truth found within the Abrahamic covenant: “I will bless you . . . and you will be a blessing.” In other words, we are blessed to bless. The first blessing is receiving, but it doesn’t end there. The second blessing is giving it away! That’s the double blessing. And that’s where double joy is found. In a day and age where the idea of blessing has been reduced to a hashtag (#blessed), Batterson challenges readers to pursue true, God-glorifying blessing and experience an exponential impact by participating in the double blessing. Don’t settle for half of what God offers. Discover how you can both get it and give it . . . in Double Blessing.

Exiles by Terry Solley,Johnny Blevins,Jason Karch Pdf

Exiles is a Christian Devotional Book written by inmates for inmates. Exiles will bless inmates and free-world people alike, making its way into both kinds of prisons-spiritual and physical-something we all know well. The practice of having Christian devotions is a way of practicing the spiritual disciplines of quietness and solitude and Bible reading so that a person can live out his or her day with the mind of Christ. Each page of this devotional book represents a day in the calendar year and includes a verse or two of Scripture, three to four short paragraphs about the Scripture applicable to a prison context, then a brief listing for further Bible reading. The authors are pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Biblical Studies at the Southwestern Seminary at Darrington, a four-year accredited degree through the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary inside of the maximum security Darrington Prison Unit--all supported and privately funded by The Heart of Texas Foundation (www.heartoftexasfoundation.org).-----One of the most important spiritual disciplines for followers of Christ is the cultivation of a regular devotional life. This is especially important for those who are incarcerated and working hard to turn their lives around. This is why Exiles: A Prisoner's Daily Devotional is highly unique and appropriate devotional guide written by prisoners for prisoners. The authors provide a healthy balance between solid biblical exegesis and relevant applications sustained from many years behind bars. The additional morning and evening readings complement the lessons and give the reader more support for the biblical teaching they read each day. I have no doubt that the Lord will use this devotional to transform the lives of many "exiles" behind bars. - Stephen O. Presley, Ph.D., St. Andrew's University Assistant Professor of Biblical Interpretation, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary-----Exiles is a book of Christian devotions written by three men who embraced their gift of faith in Jesus Christ while in prison. Combined, they have already been in prison for 48 years. Two of them have life sentences, and one has a 35-year sentence. They have written this outstanding devotional book from their ongoing confinement behind bars but with the freedom they have in Christ. If you are reading this book while in prison, this devotional was written for you by those who are there with you. Each page teaches you something new about how life in prison does not have to be the same old game. No matter who you are or where you are, you can read Exiles and learn more about Jesus Christ, his care for the prisoner, and the transformative power of his gospel. This devotional book will point you to Jesus Christ like no devotional book I have ever read.- Brenna M. Norwood, Ph.D., The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; The Heart of Texas Foundation
