Proceedings of the 2003 Particle Accelerator Conference. Volume 5 of 5 by Anonim Pdf

The twentieth biennial Particle Accelerator Conference on Accelerator Science and Technology was held May 12 - 16, 2003 a the Hilton Hotel in Portland, Oregon. The Stanford Linear Accelerator Center and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory organized PAC 2003, and it was held under the auspices of the Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Division of Physics of Beams of the American Physical Society. The attendance was 1025 registrants from 21 countries. The Program Committee was co-chaired by Alan Jackson and Ed Lee. The program they arranged had opening and closing plenary sessions that covered the most important accomplishments, opportunities, and applications of accelerators. During the remainder of the conference there were parallel sessions with oral and poster presentations. In addition, there was an industrial exhibit during the first three days. The Proceedings present a total of 1154 papers from the invited, contributed orals, and poster sessions.

Mathematical Analysis and Simulation of Field Models in Accelerator Circuits by Idoia Cortes Garcia Pdf

This book deals with the analysis and development of numerical methods for the time-domain analysis of multiphysical effects in superconducting circuits of particle accelerator magnets. An important challenge is the simulation of “quenching”, i.e. the transition of a material from the superconducting to the normally electrically conductive state. The book analyses complex mathematical structures and presents models to simulate such quenching events in the context of generalized circuit elements. Furthermore, it proposes efficient parallelized algorithms with guaranteed convergence properties for the simulation of multiphysical problems. Spanning from theoretical concepts to applied research, and featuring rigorous mathematical presentations on one side, as well as simplified explanations of many complex issues, on the other side, this book provides graduate students and researchers with a comprehensive introduction on the state of the art and a source of inspiration for future research. Moreover, the proposed concepts and methods can be extended to the simulation of multiphysical phenomena in different application contexts.

Linear Collider Physics in the New Millennium by Keisuke Fujii,David J. Miller,Amarjit Soni Pdf

The high energy electronOCopositron linear collider is expected to provide crucial clues to many of the fundamental questions of our time: What is the nature of electroweak symmetry breaking? Does a Standard Model Higgs boson exist, or does nature take the route of supersymmetry, technicolor or extra dimensions, or none of the foregoing? This invaluable book is a collection of articles written by experts on many of the most important topics which the linear collider will focus on. It is aimed primarily at graduate students but will undoubtedly be useful also to any active researcher on the physics of the next generation linear collider."

In recent years, the technology of cryogenic comminution has been widely applied in the field of chemical engineering, food making, medicine production, and particularly in recycling of waste materials. Because of the increasing pollution of waste tires and the shortage of raw rubber resource, the recycling process for waste rubber products has become important and commercially viable. This technology has shown a great number of advantages such as causing no environmental pollution, requiring low energy consumption and producing high quality products. Hence, the normal crusher which was used to reclaim materials, such as waste tires, nylon, plastic and many polymer materials at atmospheric 12 temperature is being replaced by a cryogenic crusher. • In the cryogenic crusher, the property of the milled material is usually very sensitive to temperature change. When a crusher is in operation, it will generate a great deal of heat that causes the material temperature increased. Once the temperature increases over the vitrification temperature, the material property will change and lose the brittle behavior causing the energy consumption to rise sharply. Consequently, the comminution process cannot be continued. Therefore, it is believed that the cryogenic crusher is the most critical component in the cryogenic comminution system. The research on the temperature increase and energy consumption in the cryogenic crusher is not only to reduce the energy consumption of the crasher, but also to reduce the energy consumption of the cryogenic system.
